Last night the game worked fine. This morning as I thought I was to spend an hour it crashes when I try to load either an old game or start a new. The eroor message that pops on my screen after a lot of flickering says; "An assertation failed in Infscreenload.cpp at line number 1428"
Hope this helps.
Best wishes; Palle
Try cleaning out your temp and cache folders.
Also, are you crashing during the load or when you go to the load screen?

InfScreenLoad.cpp at line 1492
Corrupt portrait bitmap. Go into the directory of the save game that is giving this error and delete all the .bmp files. Load the game and then re-save.

from the Bioware list of assertion errors: not quite the same as the one yr having, but pretty close:
InfScreenLoad.cpp at line 1492
Corrupt portrait bitmap. Go into the directory of the save game that is giving this error and delete all the .bmp files. Load the game and then re-save.
Thing is, it happens when I try to create a new game as well, one where there is no bitmaps yet. It happens on the screen where you enter a session name, a player name and optionally a session password, and then you click on new game or load game. Whatever I do makes it flicker in a way that would be eminently suitable for "No-touch" interrogations and sometimes the error message pops on at others it just stands there flickering.
Hlithskialf, is this the Windows (Hail Bill Gates, it is a hardware problem, I have not been brainwashed) Temp and Cache folders? I am puzzled...
Best wishes; Palle

Try removing all the savegames from the SAVE directory. Then start the game, if it loads up fine, you know it's a corrupt savegame. Systematically add back/test each savegame until you find the fubar one.
Nope, sorry, even when I remove them all it refuses to work.
And, it happens even if I try starting an entirely new game. Which it should not really if it was a saved game or...?

Dear Drow, what is a GUI image?
As for Minsc etc, I have no idea, but if that was the case removing all the saved games should help should it not? It did not...
I think I may just uninstall the entire thing and reinstall it. :bash: Not fun, I will end up :drunk: on a local bench from a computergame.

Take my word for it. "Rebuilds are your friend." Hopefully you won't get to the point where you can construct the rebuild in your sleep. Make sure you clear out your WEIDU log, save game folder, and your override folder before you begin the rebuild. Your WEIDU log is a little text file labeled WEIDU, go ahead and delete it. I can tell you from experience, not cleaning it out causes major headaches.
