Your brain.

Meaning that there is no script aimed at Refinements HLA, and that Refinements is a mod for the roleplayer, not for the script users.

Yeah, but I also bet nobody will bother to write one. And, hearing about PC scripts brings me bad memories :crying:

Either you rely on your ability to play or you search a SuperScript and let the game play for you. If you didn't mean to let the game autoplay, then probably your script shouldn't be casting HLAs anyway.

The flip side of that is some people like to have limited control over the NPCs, seeing as they are only playing the main character. Some games like the Fallout games don't allow you direct control over party members, and some players (myself included) like that style of play. It lets us roleplay our main character better, rather than rollplaying the rest of the party too. ;)

To be honest, I always wondered how any of these scripts would fare against improved opponents like Abazigal & Crew. I mean, one nearly has to tactically plan the battle before start, and I doubt any scripts can be as precise as one's direct control.

Generally, they can't and for the toughest encounters you frequently need to take control of your characters on a turn-by-turn basis. However, I tend to let the characters do their own things when running a script like this, taking control of them one at a time (my main character tells them to use a certain ability is the RP reasoning behind this). At least with the scripts, the rest of the party doesn't stand around stupidly waiting to be killed.

For battles that require tactical planning before hand, I doubt any non-custom tailored script for that battle would be able to auto-play it. Still, like I said, having my characters not standing around doing nothing is preferable for 90% of the game.

As an aside, super scripts that like to unload your entire reperatoire on every kobald you run across get a big thumbs down from me.

Heh, I didn't realize there was a profanity filter here for wonderful words like *MPrilla Go Away*.

Hey, don't you remember his last spam invasion something less than an year ago? It was quite necessary to enforce than profanity filter!
The shameful part of that is that I was mostly the culprit, having posted in some dozens different threads that he sucked. He searched for his name and started spamming those threads.

I just wonder wether he did that by hand or used some spambots.

I never really cared about player scripts, frankly.
While I admire Caedwyr's roleplaying devotion, I admit this is one of the few places where mine fails ;)
I really can't stand a script doing stupid things in my place, or wasting my spells when I don't want to. So I just use "passive" scripts, and the NPCs don't do anything important unless ordered otherwise- directly.

After all, it's fun to use all the choices at disposal, you'd miss too many things otherwise :)
Still, it's a point to consider for the future, maybe.

Naaaaaaaah -_-
Scripts are too boring to make, as you have to copy/paste the same section over and over (guess why it took me 4 months to write the ones for v2? :P ), and the ones for the [N]PC are even worse, as you have to evaluate the situation not to waste spells on goblins (which will become both tricky and boring to do 'right').
Finally, I play in full control mode (I use always general attack) and don't usually appreciate summons or similar doing stuff on their own (hence the on/off switch I added to the celestials &C. scripts)

Still, if somebody wishes to adapt eSeries (or some similar reputable set of scripts) accounting for Refinements (and therefore wishes to waste time this way, instead of creating yet another NPC/kit/item/spell pack), well, I won't stop him :)

Unfortunately, the majority of scripts I've run across tend to fail at playing the characters intelligently. So, realistically I end up walking my party around with scripts turned off, or just the bare minimum. I have had some success with the eSeries and next time through I'd like to try out Yovaneth's scripts as well.

the eSeries has actually got quite a decent threat level analysis routine, so that it doesn't - as a general rule - waste powerful spells/ HLAs/ etc on kobolds and goblins. each to their own of course - i hate micromanaging and i've got a high tolerance for scripts 'wasting' spells, etc.

it wouldn't be hard for someone - even knuckles, who started this thread - to add Refinements HLAs to the eSeries; it would just be a matter of following the format of the eSeries and cut-n-pasting as necessary.

I would use them. Maybe a poll would be a good idea to determine the level of public interest.

Well, since I'm the only person in the team who has any experience on AI, and given that I already stated I'm not interested, I don't see how a poll is going to help anyway.
