My game is crashing when I choose to go with saemon ( or whatever his name is ) to Kara-tur. I make the last dialog choice to go there via the 'harpell spell' and bg2 dies.

Can I just go to the area ? if so what is it's number ? do i need to manually set flags ? if anyone else has had this problem or heard of it can you tell me a fix ?

I just get the windows error sound and the screen goes blank...

I apologise if i have inadvertantly placed this query in the wrong area but I am dying to play this part.

Help ? :(

if you can clua yrself to TT0100, then things are all good. however...

crashing at the that point is the classic proof that you installed incorrectly. i'm guessing you did a manual install, yeah? the TS part of the manual install is really finicky - which is why i strongly recommend the auto-install process - and very easy to get wrong. most usually, ppl forget to trasfer the area files across, or to mark them as not-read-only before extracting them, there are various threads in this forum explaining what to do in these circumstances - it *is* possible to dupe a TS install, and then copy all the area files into yr override folder, which is the easiest solution, so i'd recommend searching this forum for instructions.

hmm i found the manual install very easy - u can do all thinks step by step, and store a valid step. its true there was something with read only files during the ts install (patch has to override some) .

the only usefull think in bp-autoinstall was the buffing stuff, so long ....

Auto Install. Word for word as the AUTOreadme said. ( BPv161G Automated Install.doc )
If I made a mistake there I can't for the life of me think it could have been.

There are some other quirks in the game ie. some dialog mistakes. Kachiko says something about killing the party as they are frozen in her wake or something, every now and again. And the oak fist captain said something really inaproppriate as he attacked me I cant remember what he said. Also sime has no picture.

maybe this is an indication theat I made a mistake, though I did EVERYTHING as it said...

The only thing I think I could have screwed up is the Nej installs maybe ?
I did them in this order:

NeverEndingJourney-weiduv13i.rar
NeJ1v14p.zip
BP-NeJv12.rar
BP_s_and_h_Patchv6.zip

Then misc WieDU mods-but being wiedu they arent supposed to screw it up are they?

Anyways thank you all for your prompt help I was brokenhearted when this happened  . If I CLUA into that area I will have to go BEFORE i leave for spellhold or i crash. Will I need to set a "gone to spellhold" flag or when I finish TS, or when I leave Kara-tur to go to spellhold will that be set then. ?

PS: And bless horred as he is making BP WieDU ( May his camels never go thirsty ) :D

it looks like you missed the dummy folders in the TS part of the install - you've got the same problem as the person posting here.

it's easily done - god knows, i've done it - and not all that clear fromteh auto install doc. personaly, i'd recommend yazzuie''s bp install guide, which makes it quite clear what directories you need to install TS to.

in yr NEJ install procedure, it's usually recommended to install BP-NEJ vefore NEJ1v14, but it won't really make much difference, as NEJ1v14 makes only a small number of changes, and none that BP-NEJ also changes.

at any rate, the problem you describe is definitively caused by a bad TS install. if you *only* had a crash when going to Kara-Tur, you can get around the problem by making a dummy TS install and copying over the area files; if you've got misplaced dialogue strings and missing portraits, you only have two choices: complete reinstall and start a new game, or continue on but avoid all TS content (easily done - just don't have Kachiko or Sime in yr party).

:(

Thanks all, I have the area and the dialog/portrait problem so it must be the install. *sigh* so if I want to play TS I will have to re-install. I doubt I can use the savegame that i have now ? I REFUSE to do it all again up to this point so I guess I will have to dump kachiko and yoshimo. well, i have the rest of BP to explore anyway.

Thanks again.

Sir BillyBob: glad I could be such source of amusment for you, would you believe I was SERIOUS ?!

Thanks again.

Think I might go back to nwn-cep-prc. 3rd ed makes more sense to me anyway.

I've got similar problem, but after copying some files Kara-Tur is working. unfortunatelly, I cannot say the same about the cave located in a middle of this area. Game cashed while I'm trying to load it.

YES, I reinstalled TS. The only thing that changed is layout of main menu.

On the Black Wyrm I was told to ask here, so doe anybosy know the source and possible solution of my problem?

as i said on BWL, this is the classis indicator that you missed an instruction in the BP install process (i'm assuming here, from what you said on BWL, that yr playing 'classic' BP-NEJ or BP-BGT-NEJ).

the short story is that the version of TS used in BP is very picky aobut how it is installed. If yr using the manula install process (and i hope yr not) then yuo've either installed one or more parts of TS to the wrong dummy directory; you've not changed the files to be not-read-only (what is the opposite of read-only? read-write? anyways...); or you've not transferred all the relevant files over to yr BP install.

if yr using the auto-install, then you've probably chosen the wrong sub-directory when installing the TS part (at least one of the install guides is wrong on this score).

fortunately, you can save the situation without doing a full re-install. what you need to do is a dummy TS install - ie, install TS to a new directoy (any directory other than yr BGII one!). i'll cut-n-paste from Yazzuie's BP install guide:

4: Install Tortured Souls 5.01 with patches 5.03, 5.04, and 5.05 to a "dummy" folder
4a: Create a dummy folder ?TSDummy? (file path "~\TSDummy?, where ~ is wherever you choose other than the BGII game folder)
4b: Run the installer program ?TSv50.exe?
4c: Read the License Agreement and select Accept.
4d: Change the Destination Directory to the dummy folder (file path "~\TSDummy?)
and select Install.
4e: Run the installer program ?TSv503.exe?
 4f: Select Accept.
4g: Change the Destination Directory to the dummy folder (file path "~\TSDummy?)
and select Install. Choose Overwrite All if prompted.
4h: Extract the archived file ?TSv504.zip? to the dummy folder (file path "~\TSDummy\Override?), choose Overwrite All when prompted.
4i: Extract the archived file ?TSv505.zip? to the dummy folder (file path "~\TSDummy\Override?), choose Overwrite All when prompted.
 4j: Make the new files NOT Read Only;
- From Windows Explorer, open the folder path "~\TSDummy\Override?
- From the top menu, choose EDIT ? SELECT ALL
- From the top menu, choose FILE ? PROPERTIES. A new window opens.
- Make sure that the READ ONLY check box is NOT checked. Select OK.
4k: Open the folder "~\TSDummy\Areas? and run the batch file ?TSAreas.bat?.
A DOS window will appear showing many scrolling files for several minutes.
4l: Move the contents of folder "~\TSDummy\Areas? to "\Black
Isle\BGII-SOA\Override?.

and then yr done. it's actually not as hard as it looks. once you've done this, open yr game, and do a

CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("TT0100")

if it loads! yay! open yr saved game and play on. if it doesn't - err, you missed a step; rinse and repeat the dummy install.

edit:

On the Black Wyrm I was told to ask here, so doe anybosy know the source and possible solution of my problem?

yep, source: bad TS install; solution: as i've just described. the cave crash is a rare phenomenon, and yr not likely to get it unless you installed, err, the wrong version of TS - but if that was the case, you wouldn't have been able to play yr game as far as you already have.
