So, prejudice against elves in Amn.

"Lands of Intrigue" do not say much at the point; just mumble that some elves live in a distant region of Amn, and halfelves are very rare in these lands. Google search on the forums yields "Um... er..." and that's all, including Candlekeep forums.

About Tethyr - yes, I know the whole story. But what about Amn? For now, all I know is a guy from Wakeen's Promenade in the game Baldur's Gate 2. Is there any more to it? Please keep in mind that I mean "elves suck", not "elves rock" sort of racism.

Amnians are greedy.
They work a lot to have more and more and more money.
They are antithesis of Elves, so I think that there are a lot of prejudices against elves, that are mostly based on different approach to life.

That's a very good idea, thanks! :)

What I am troubled about is the average commoner reaction: I mean, how bad is this? I know that in Tethyr elves were hunted, and now relations are strained. In Calimshan, there are cases when elves are traded as slaves or worse (take an elven concubine, Khalid's mother.)

But how bad is it in Amn? Just "Oh, look, again this pointy-eared bastard. I say, there're too many of them." or "Look, an elf! He needs a good beating! Let's do it!" I remember that some noble made advances on Jaheira in BG2; are elven females being mistreated, perhaps?

I wouldn't say Amnians are supposed to be racists, it's just that non-humans ended up being extremely rare in the country. Halflings and half-orcs are the only demihuman races with a population of note in the country, so gnomes and dwarves are rare there too, not just elves. Basically, a more likely comment would be something along the lines of "what the heck happened to that guy/girl's ears?" ;)

There is a big forest along Amn's eastern born called Shilmista, which is home to number of wood elves (and is where Kivan hails from), but they tend to keep to themselves since they don't trust humans.

Okay. So, it's not that big an issue in Amn. (SOA) Thanks! :)
