I've got the urge to play through BG and BG2 again. I want to use either TuTu or BGT.
It's been a long time since I've played BG or BG2, so I would probably not notice if something went wrong.
Basically, would you say that BGT works well enough that a first time player could play through without problems?
Is the latest version of BGT good enough to play through?

I would say yes. If you use DSOTSC, Bonehill or NTOTSC on top of BGT the chance you will run into problems are bigger though.
But if you want to play pure BGT, I don't think there are any game-breaking issues left. If you want to be sure, read through the ZETA bugs thread. You'll see that there are only some rather minor issues left.
