Greetings all!!!

Just finished the humongous installation that is BP-BGT-NEJ-...! Boy oh boy, am I excited!

But alas...

There seems to be an incompatibility issue of sorts between my pc and the historic opengl driven code... I can't seem to turn 3d hardware acceleration on without getting into a seizure... In other words, the screen flickers

I have an xfx 7800gs, on an amd 3500+, everything up to date.

Any suggestions?

I'll play in old skool 2d until someone comes up with a solution (or until I become desperate and whack in my old 9800pro ^_^ ).

Thanks in advance!!!

Well, all I can suggest is:
1) Put all your settings up to max in the general setup; and
2) Double check you have up to date drivers; if not download them.

If neither of these work, then it could be two things I can think of:
i) the card you are using is too new for the game, or if it is a laptop then laptops are possibly notorious for not handling 3d gfx, as onboard gfx cards imho, are normally screwed; and
ii) I believe the normal thing to do before installing the mods or any mods, is run BG2 config first, though I don't think it makes any difference.

Personally, I seriously doubt I'm right about i) simply because I'm running a XFX NVidia GeForce NX6800XT myself, and the 3d testing doesn't flicker at all when I run the gfx tests.

So maybe if you're trying a res above 800x600 in the BG2 config, ie an unsupported one, try dropping it back to 800x600.

Alternatively, check your gfx card refresh rates under Windows Display control panel.

You didn't say what version of Windows you're running, if it's XP, you should be able to do this easily, if you are also running XP and trying to install the opengl software that's on the BG2 game, that I think refers you to a website, don't because the opengl stuff was designed for win98 mabe win2k and earlier. XP handles it just fine without.

If you're using Win98, and you're installing or installed the opengl stuff, that maybe the prob, simply because if your gfx card is fairly new on the market, firstly, no opengl drivers may have been written for it, and secondly, they may never be written because companies tend to write the makority of stuff for xp these days :)

If I haven't helped one bit, sorry :( But I tried :)

I had this problem and solved it by switching something off in the Advanced Properties of my video card drivers setup. Can't remember for certain, it was a while ago.

LOL

Although the problem's not solved (flickering in whatever resolution under whatever circumstances combined with "3d acceleration"), that issue is peanuts compared to the one I've encountered after some playtime...

It seems the sound effects do not... well... sound... unless the screen's a-movin'. ie: no battle cries during fights if the cursor doesn't jump about a bit, no rants, no gore-sfx,...
Anyone any idea on how to solve THAT?

Thanks in advance, as usual

If it helps, the thing I switched off was probably "Triple Buffering". If it doesn't work, try combining it with V-Sync parameter on/off.

As for your sound problems -:blink::blink:
What OS are you using?

Windows XP SP2; however, if I may be so bold, I don't think the problem's to be found within my config (latest drivers)... Never had any problems with other games :)

Ow! Thanks for the Triple Buffering-tip! Worked like a charm!!!
Tiny little question though :P I use nView to connect to a second screen, and the mouse scrolls through to the right (where my TV is). Any way to solve this other then to switch to "monitor only?" (when 3d acceleration's off, this issue doesn't arise - logically)

Thanks again!!!!

Edit: Having started Baldur's Gate 2 today, yet more sound-related problems are coming my way :)
1. Complete misbehaviour during cutscenes: synchronisation out of time, cutscenes starting one over the other (double Irenicus on Waukeen's Promenade, for instance - double yoshimo and immy as well).
2. "Wulfgar & co" seem to be the only NPC's who behave correctly when I click them. This leads me to believe that the problem of the whole thing lies with RoT, a mod I'm playing for the first time.
3. RoT cutscene when entering part deux of Jonny's dungeon fails to start. Deleted part of code in script to have "normal" behaviour (as mentioned before, Yoshimo here shows up twice - not seeming to recognise himself in my party o_O')

Any help will be, as ever, deeply appreciated!!!
