I got to Sarevok a few weeks ago, after some trouble with the Iron Throne guys outside. However, I quickly realized that I was *not* able to take him on, so I decided I'd do the TotSC quests to gain some more items and experience. Did that, and now I figured I'd stand a better chance. Not so. Is it possible that the buffing up of him and his party is a bit well done? I realize my characters aren't fully battle-optimized stat- and skill-wise, but do they really have to be? In a RPG? I'm about level 8 with all of them (my ranger, Khalid, Minsc, Yeslic, Imoen and Dynaheir), and I survive 20 seconds, at best.
Any hints on strategy, weaknesses I should've known about? Is the fight scaled for a party that has done all the other mods also?
I haven't installed any of the battle upgrades.

Thanks for reading.

You survive 20 seconds only ? Maybe it's the Death spell that Semaj likes to cast. It kills without any saves all group members that are level 8 or below. Better be level 9, be protected against death magic (level 4 cleric/druid spell), or be protected against magic (scrolls, potions).

Try to use one of your group member as a bait (preferably buffed and well protected), so he or she will advance alone. He/She will be the target of all area spells ; other group members won't be harmed that way. Then retreat to the back of the room, and wait for your foes to find you. It will be a lot easier.

In any case, this fight is HARD and you will need to be buffed as hell : potions of magic resistance, oil of speed, scrolls of protection against magic on non-casters, potions of storm giant strength, etc.

This is pretty much what I've been doing, letting dynaheir go there while magic protected via scroll, wand of fireball, and when all the spells that are auto-cast have been absorbed, I run back to the rest of the party, which is buffed to the best of my abilities. However, Sarevok always goes for the PC, and since Semaj casts dispel as soon as he sees the party, I lose my buffs, and Sarevok hits for about 20 dmg per hit. If I hide with the PC the rest of the party is killed instead.
Ah well, I'd better quit whining and try a few more times ;)

Send in some summoned creatures first to get the dispel and death spell and then web and entangle the area and use area efect spells.

My hint:
1. have 2 spellcasters in your party...while you aproach Sarevok hideout in temple cast:
-entangle and/or web
-stinky cloud
-cloud of death
-lots of fireballs ;)
This combo should engage fight with Sarevok and the rest...however at level 8th you should have some fine equipment...lots of potions (heroism, power, etc) and scrolls (well, protection from magic for some nasty thief ^^). It's vital to concentrate your efforts on SAREVOK...when he dies fight is over. I can recommend POISON ARROWS+Kivan with good bow as really good support in this fight.
