If you are doing items you could always let them work as normal...on a timer. So after 5 days or whatever the item turns to dust, at least then the player would know he didn't just lose his item...because he has some dust!

You give the player an item as their first reward so they get the idea that something strange is up with this dude. They go back to him and he says "Ah but you did not ask for a permanent item, I gave you the best I had at the time. You can always provide another soul for another reward, hmm?".

Then the player thinking he's smart chooses a reward like +2 speed bonus...only that ain't permanent either...5 days later he has Slow cast on him for 5 days...and so on.

But an illusionary sword wouldn't really turn to dust, would it? It would just fade away or something. This easiest way would probably be to display a message on the screen, something like "You see your fancy new Hack'n'Slasher + 13 fade away into thin air before your eyes".

Another thing regarding the rewards, it would be kinda evil of me (and Caligos) if all the rewards turned out to be bad in some way (the player would get a bunch of XP though). Anyone got any ideas on illusionary rewards that could be good and permanent but still a twist on what the PC wished for?

How about the Hack'n'Slasher + 13 sword turns into a Hack'n'Slasher + 1 dagger.

I'd be careful about the dialog thing, the sword may be in a Bag of Holding when it is scheduled to disappear and dialog can often get lost on the screen if there is a lot going on at the time.

You could also give spell abilities to the player, tone down the damage output or duration if you are considering giving them permanently..though the idea of a demon allowing a permanent illusion drawing power from him might not be in keeping with the idea.

Or how about this:
Slap - Two handed sword +6
Statics: THACO +6
Damage: 1(Str bonuses wont stack, nor does Kensai class damage, thought this won't be in the description)
100% Magic immunity, for example Magic missile, Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting etc.
(But what won't be mentioned is that it is magic damage resistance, not magic resistance, and magic fire damage, magic acid damage, magic cold damage and magic lightning damage resistances will all be lowered to 0%. So he will get hurt from Fireballs, Lightning bolts etc.)
(And of course the item is cursed.)

What do you think of an illusionary weapon that doesn't do much damage but is really fast? If nothing else it would probably be a good mage-disruptor.

And lets not get stuck on weapons, I'm still very much looking for other wish-suggestions and the price to pay for the wishes.

Well, one wish could be to resurrect a fallen friend, but of course, when you leave Caligon's shop, the friend shape shifts into a demon and...

Another might be to wish a friends(Imoen's) freedom from the island(SoA), and something might go wrong with that too...

Then again one might wish a cure from all ailments, so Caligo cure you from life.
Or everlasting life, so Caligo frees you from this plane.(Imprisonment)

This is very similar to one of my ideas regarding the same wish. The only difference is that I planned it as a modified Time Stop. What really happens is that Caligos puts the PC to sleep and traps him in a single moment (he speeds up CHARNAME's perception of time so a moment of real time seem like an eternity).
Another idea of mine is that CHARNAME wishes to return to Candlekeep and is sent to an illusionary Candlekeep created from his own memories resulting in that everybody acts just like they did before CHARNAME left at the start of BG1. This would probably be the most fun for players who played BG1 recently and can recognize the innkeeper's (Winsomething?) jokes and the dwarf's ratslaying quest. Besides reliving old memories this would likely also involve a quest of some sort to return to the real world.

Oh, and another thing. Since this is my first serious mod and it seems to be getting waaay bigger then I first pictured it I'm wondering if anyone's interested in helping out. If not, I'll carry on by myself and it will eventually get done but some co-operation would probably speed things up by a thousand years or so. :)
