Question about Edwin

I haven't been playing BG long but I have completed Edwin's romance several times. He is wonderful
My question is,at the risk of sounding stupid, how do you go about having drinks with him and how does his
love potion come to play? He has never mentioned it or anything any of the times my PC has romanced him

Actually he gets drunk all on his own, pretty early on in the relationship, and the PC is there to go "wtfbbq" and to carry him to bed. Don't know anything about those lovepotions, though. I bet you got the "having drinks with Edwin" thing from the FAQ, but the lovepotions..?

When Edwin gets drunk, you see "your party has gained an item" When you look in Edwin's inventory there is a potion and it says it's a love potion Edwin made when you weren't looking. Does it actually have a purpose?
