Does anyone know if metamagic, aka the various spellcasters feats from the 3rd edition DnD rules, exist in second edition rules at all? And if so, could anyone point me in the direction of any information on it.
Thanks
The closest equivalent would be some of the special abilties granted by various kits. They wouldn't match all the metamagic abilities, but some of them are quite close equivalents. I'm certain I remember one kit which gave an ability similar to Enlarge Spell and Widen Spell, and there were others who could manipulate spells in various ways. The main way to modify spells though was with another spell. I'll have to check my books, but there were spells such as Extension, Far Reaching, and a few others that could affect the duration, range, or damage of spells cast after them. I seem to remember Extension being in the PHB, and most of the others would appear in either Complete Book of Wizards, Tome of Magic, or one of the four volums of the Wizard's Spell Compendium.
Back from the brink.
Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".
These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Will have a look through these books then.
As it would be best to use existing AD&D lore for my fanfic, rather then take libreties and mixing AD&D and 3rd edition rules.

You may also want to take a look at signature spells from the "Player's Option: Spells and Magic".

In addition to the many spells that enchance the effects of other spells, there is a class that specialises in these spells. This class (incantrix) also has several powers that are in some ways similar to the 3E feats.

I could not find the incantrix class, but did come across the signature spell material, and it looks rather interesting. Think I shall be including it.
