I have Near Infinity, but it isn`t displaying all of the string references within files... for example, it won`t tell me the string ref for the Kit attribute.
Before I go downloading galore, can someone link me to a program which *definately* displays these ??

Near Infinity has a strref search capacit in one of the drop down menu's

how come you always look so damn cool in every photo I see you in?!?

Speaking of modding, I listened to IER 3 yesterday, so you can have another quote for your signature: how come you sound so damn cool, as well as look it? It's unfair. Seriously.

Still a cyberjock, still hacking the matrix, still unsure of what that means.

All you have to do is to type in the text you are looking for and it will find it for you after you specify where to look. Do you have IEEP?

NI displays the KIT.IDS entry for the kit field in CRE files, for the simple reason that this is what the field requires. Where a strref is required, it is displayed.

Is there then any way of changing a creature`s kit from a TP2 file ?? And is there any program that can give me the appropriate strrefs for similar things (class, race, spells, etc) ??

what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Simple creature editing can be done with NI or SK?

I`m trying to accomplish a higher chance of having my mod mutually compatible with others that affect the same character/s...
But, by the looks of things, it`ll probably take less work to do override-only, and find/say what it won`t be compatable with...

If all you're doing is changing the kit field, then use COPY_EXISTING and WRITE_BYTE. However, your other thread indicates that you are modifying spells, in which case there is no way of having it "mutually compaible", since you have no alternative but to copy the whole CRE across.

Ok, this may clear up my exact question a bit more...
With WRITE_BYTE field value , value will come from an ids, but how do I figure out how to reference the field ??

Here you can find more information on how to assign a kit to a CRE file. It also explains which bytes you have to modify.
