I'm in need of links for online translators of the surface elven language.
So far I've located one which matches the FR setting (or at least I hope it does).
However it can only allow one word at a time, I'm looking for making sentences in the language, short but still much the same. :(
Here's the link for anyone else who may be interested. :)

http://www.grey-comp...anguagebase.htm

If someone can find another link for the FR setting, it'd be greatly appreciated. :)

I've searched for a long, long time with Xan, and that's the best resource you're listing here.

(Personally, long phrases in Drow/Elven make me wince, so I just throw in an "a'mael mellonamin" every couple of hundred lines or so, but that's just me.)

I've never found a translator either, though I've found (and helped to update) a very extensive dictionary based originally on the Grey Company Dictionary The other is here on a google spreadsheet.

I've taken to translating for fun(this being the best we did) occasionally but could help you out if desired.

I like the spreadsheet. Entirely convenient.

Thanks Kellen, and everyone else for the help.
I tell you there is nothing more annoying, than going to a site that translates a different kind of the language you're looking for. Some are not even related in the slightest. ;)

Ah well, I guess word for word isn't so bad, not unless you're looking for the long-winded passages, I share that sentiment though, Kulyok. Long sentences... baaaad.

Ok people good news :D , managed to come across a pretty good translator for FR elvish and believe it or not, drow language all in one.

Unfortunately some words are missing, such as: beauty which is vanim according to the grey- company dictionary. :)

Despite this, it allows for entire sentences to be translated and it looks pretty recent so yeah, try it out. ^_^

Edit: Be wary some sentences WILL be incorrect. Moon star; is one such example.
Just something to be aware of. :)

Okay, I thought this post was appropiate here. I needed in Elvish: Ancient Ones.
Guess what?
Every translator says something else

Eberron one = Eilol olaer

Fantasyrole = Yaara enna

Grey Company (PDF) = Yaanur (as I do not want one as a number, but a person indication and if I get the grammar rules correctly)
(Also nice is: Aredhel for noble elf; what is plural? Sometimes it seems 'Quessir' for Elves, but the exception is there for half-elves with earendil (oh, and the title of this topic uses again something else Darthiir, which is totally not in this bookwork)

Grey company (site) = Yaara er
Google Spreadsheet doesn't open

And except for the Eberron one, it doesn't sound much like the names in PHB... with things like Elandionel. Yaara sounds so... hard for what I thought to be a singing like language

What am I to take?

The spreadsheet doesn't open up to you? That's strange. I like that one the best, too.

Aredhel in plural is Aredhelrim - the suffix "rim" adds a respectful tone, or implies great numbers.

As for the "hard" words.. Each language have both beautiful and less beautiful words.

Yaara means ancient, yes, and it's one of the.. less melodical words. Look at the word for "always" instead, for example - ilyamenie. Same language.

Yaararim (rim denotes great numbers or respect. So Yaararim - The (Many) Ancients. Otherwise CC's suggestion might work)

And for Grey Company plural, denoted r, ea, ie, or, io, and oo. Exact choice is left up to the person creating the plural.

And @ Google Spreadsheets. Is it just that the link is broken? Or some other trouble. It's working fine for me so it's possible it was just going through some trouble earlier.

Thanks for the so many replies, but what is up with the one of Eberron than that it gives so different words.

What I am trying to do by the way, is to find titles Elves would give themselves. Hereby, I am searching for terms for aloof, 'we are better than you' Elves and very close to nature, 'stay away stranger' Elves. So two different sub-races adressing themselves.

P.s. Funny thing is that the 'woody' ones would go fine with Yaara as the place they live is called Yanaeri, but I wanted ancient ones for the another spot... argh

Well Eberron is a separate DnD campaign world, so I would expect that their languages are not the same.

As for PHB, I believe that was theoretically more focused on the Greyhawk(Ravenloft, maybe?) world, and so the names shouldn't exactly match the GC Elven.

If Yaara(ancient) doesn't seem to work, how about Iant(old). Iantrim - The Old Ones(The Many Old).

Just to let you (Choo Choo and Kellen) know; after some hard tinking and tinkering I went with:

Tel'Aredhelrim (= The Nobles Ones)
Tel'Taurefaerim (= The Forest Spirit Ones)
Mori'Quessir (= Dark Elves)

Thanks for all the help

Sorry for the necropost, but the initial link seems to be giving me all kinds of viruses. Has anyone else encountered this? I've used it numerous times in the past without this problem, and am unsure how to proceed.

That seems to be a recent thing. Try browsing via a proxy server such as Anonymouse, maybe.

The spreadsheet and the PDF still work. The only link that gives the strange virus thing is the first Grey Company link posted.

The ones Kellen linked? Okay, thanks.

I wonder why it's doing this this... I hope someone fixes it; I've been using that site for years and wish to continue doing so. Of course, it might just be a virus software malfunction, but we already have multiple threads complaining about that particular brand of idiocy.
