Um, for BG1, I usually go with me, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and then I take Dynaheir to Nashkel where I let her die a sad, sad death in the mines. She is mourned. Then, I pick up Xan. On the other hand, no matter how much I love Xan, I wouldn't be able to had I not changed his class to sorcerer.. I bloody hate enchanters.

For BG2, it's me, Jaheira, Minsc, Xan and Anomen. (The only reason I drag Anomen around is that he's a goddamn killing machine with Crom Faeyr, I hate his personality.) Until Imoen comes in Spellhold, I switch between NPC's at the sixth spot just to complete their quests, and then I take Yoshimo to Spellhold.

Edit: Whoops sorry forgot to mention.
This post is about BG1 specifically. :)

Depends on your style.

If you're going for a high offensive team:

Minsc
Imoen (one of the better thieves low level allows growth)
Edwin
Khalid
Shar-Teel

And then add in a PC cleric with a suitable level of WIS, DEX and STR

Tactitians may want to choose:

Jaheria or Faldorn
Coran
Edwin
Dynaheir
Viconia (Undead turning doesn't destroy but rather converts weak undead, useful cannon fodder)

And then the PC could either be a mage of strategic sorts or just a grunt so to speak

Anyways, thats running on the normal peramaters, no BGtutu changes or what-have-you to their classes.

Change Shar-Teel into a beserker then she's useful, same with Kagain and his Barbarian sort.

(@Choo Choo = Xan as an enchanter is alright too, load up on dire charms and your enemies are lambs to the slaughter)

Anyways the first tactic for any BG engagement i'd recommend you do tho, is for every group, make sure your characters can attack enemies by range first, until your melee fighters can get close to their weak archers and mages. Gnolls and the like who don't use ranged weapons, always hit from a range, toe to toe is folly until higher levels.

Just a handy bit of advice, and werewolves, never take on without +3 weapons. :)

Ok, now letsee if i can somehow come up with an alignment based group for BG1, i'll post again if i'm sucessful. :)

Nathaniel (Kensai)

Well, as you need a cleric or druid as a healer, so that's Anomen, Jaheira, Cernd or some one else. Or you could go with Druidic Sorcerer or Auramaster druid kit.

And if you really want to brake the forth wall, you go with a bard, as with right mods, they can regenerate the whole group and you don't need a healer, and besides, they have the Lesser Restoration with is needed for vampires.

You could go with;
Allison, she is a druid too.
Auren Aseph, a fighter.
Go beyond the Law, with Kova, a mage/thief and Kiyone, archer.
And those are just a few.

Solar, yes, charm spells are nice - but no evocation spells?! I'm a magic missile addict, I find it useful even in ToB.. but that's just me. :3

I almost always take Jaheira along for healing; you could probably get away with just having her as your healer if you're a cleric or a druid.

I'd take Mazzy, Valygar or Anomen for another fighter (or be a fighter yourself) because Nathaniel will die. A lot.

Since you've got all good characters down for BG2, I'm guessing you might prefer to stick with a predominantly good party for the BG1/BG2 run.

For BG2, you've got
PC (class?)
Kelsey
Imoen
Nathaniel
?
?

You can always rotate NPCs through those slots, pick them up for their quests, then let them go when the quests are done.

If you are more the "fill the seats and leave them filled," you can always add some combination of cleric/fighter/ranger/paladin. Anomen fits the cleric/fighter need nicely. Yeah, he starts out as LN, but if you want an all-good party, I'm sure you know what to do with him. If you break off the romance, Terl will show up faster. For your other slot, you could always pick one of the tanks: Minsc, Valygar, or Keldorn. If you pick Minsc, you've got continuity with BG1. Presumably, you'd start out with Yoshimo and swap out for Immy. Her thieving skills are usually adequate for the game.

As for PC class, you party is pretty balanced. You could do anything you wanted.

For BG1, again, keeping the good aligned party theme:

PC
Imoen
Minsc
Dynaheir
Ajantis
(cleric fill)*

*In the vanilla game, you've got Branwen as TN, Viccy as NE, Faldorn and Jaheira as druids (TN), and assorted multiclasses, all some flavor of neutral or evil. Or you can wait until the very end of chapter 4 for Yeslick, who is also a multiclass. For BG1, where leveling is slow and most monsters mop the floor with you, having a single class cleric/druid is probably a good idea. However, add mod NPCs, and got a choice between Gavin, a NG cleric of Lathander with a friendship track and optional romance, and Finch, a NG cleric of Denier with a very nice friendship track.
