Its been a long time since I last used my Baldur's Gate 1 discs. Recently I reformatted my computer and happened to lose my full Bg1 install with all checkboxes ticked. So, there I am, trying to install Bg1 again from my discs, but they are utterly scratched, and now I am trying to copy the contents of those discs on my HD to create a DVD. However, copying failed with one file,
CD4\DATA\AREA1700.BIF.

If anyone could be so kind and send me this file to my email adress m.zuba85dd (at) gmail.com I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

I had the exact same problem waaaaaaay back, and I even found a friendly user who uploaded the file for me, so I could copy it to the right places. Didn't work for me anyways though :(

I had to go buy a new one.

I'll send you the address where you can download it, as I can't attach that big file to an email, let's hope that it helps. I'll send it as PM and as an Email, so...
I put it to a rar archive so you'll need winrar(free program) or something to unpack it. It's about 20 Mb's.

Edit: Darn, the link was corrupted  , I'll send you another PM in just a moment. Well, now, it might be in both the mails... :wall:

Thanks for your help! Downloading the file worked, I included it in the installation DVD and everything went fine.

By the way, I checked and noticed that this very AR1700 is the third map of the cloakwook forest, which always caused my game to freeze upon entry. It seems that this file was already defect in my previous installation. Now I won't have to CLUACOonsole my way around it :D .

I hope I'll have better luck and won't experience any more problems. However, I wonder if Black Isle should not replace your CD if it is scratched and unusable. After all, they usually forbid creating safety copies ... However, I suppose buying a new one might be the easier way.

So can you get to the area, CLUA yourself to the area to see, if you have no other ways to check please, before you burn it on to a DVD etc.
