Over the past several months I've been lookin' back at some of my older character designs and seeing if I could somehow improve upon them in newer drawings. While I haven't necessarily improved in technical skill since the older versions, I like to think these characters have gotten better at least in terms of design. So far, I've completed a new version for each of three characters. Each of the following images have both the old and new versions side by side for your comparing pleasure:

Banana Demon


Archer Demon


Lancer Lady


As of now I'm working on two more. As a preview, here's what I have goin' for...

Mercenary Lady

I've grown to sorta dislike Merc Lady's old design, so her new design, should I get around to it, will likely be almost totally different.

Anyhoo, if I manage to complete the other two to my liking, I'll probably post 'em here at some point.

I wouldn't want to be on mercenary lady's bad side. Her expression clearly says not to mess with her. Well done!

Your new lancer lady is FIERCE! I like the determined look on her face.

I can just imagine that banana demon, sort of bulbous looking with the coloring of a banana slug... aaaaaannnnnnd I'm getting the bug chills just thinking about it.

I'd argue that your technical skill has improved. The expressiveness of each of your remakes far exceeds that of the original. That's a technical achievement, imo!

That's actually a really neato idea. Should think about coming up with something colored to that effect sometime...

Anyhoo, I developed Mercenary Lady some more:



Dunno if I'll ever develop her further (I've regrets about not finishing her legs), but for now, I'd rather move on. Other redesigns to get to and other projects to finish and all that.

I think you've definitely improved, at least in your use of composition. The poses you use now are much more dynamic and interesting, and your lineart has gotten cleaner.

I love the Archer Demon and Mercenary Lady. The latter's face and hair remind me of a Sister of Battle.

Admittedly, I still haven't gotten too crazy with my compositions. And I still haven't done much with full backgrounds and what have you, meh, one o' these days...
