I have 4 people in my party, we are all about 8th lvl and i haven't gone to cloakwood yet, and everything is a bit too easy. I could just export my character to BGII, but I want to complete BGI. Should I just raise the difficultly (even though that will give me more xp) or is there something else I could do?

You mean you're playing BG1, not BGT? IIRC raising diff doesn't affect xp gain in BG series. And there is 89k xp cap in BG1 (161k with TotSC). By 8th level XP reducers won't help you much, I think, so raising difficulty until you get to, say, Chapter 6 would be the best then.

And if you are playing a heavily modded game, there is a DEFJAM XP v6 that reduces your experience gain...
