Complete newcomer here... haven't downloaded the setup program yet but will very soon.

Is there a way to add some components in a mod through the Big World Setup and not all of them?

For example some of the components in the tweak packs for BG1 and BG2 I want added and some I don't.

I would do a search but time is limited at the moment.

This is an excellent project by the way. I decided to re-install all the BG games and play them from beginning to the end of TOB so this program is perfect.

Thanks for any help.

I believe that when you choose what mods you want to install with BWS (It auto-selects an installation based on what has been found stable, and are the main paths of the fixpack.) you can click the expand tab and then select which components are available. :)

If in doubt, install everything. xD

Actually you have to manually edit the Big World Install.bat that the BWS has prepares for you during the starting and downloading phase.
You edit the .bat file by just opening it with a text editor like Notepad, and the changes you wish to do, will be on the numbers like this for example:

Some of the BG2Tweak packs installation executing lines:
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 40 50 60 110 130 1010 1020 1040 1090 1130 --logapp | %M%

Now, you have to understand the .bat language a bit to know what to edit and how, and depending what other mods you install, what language you use and so forth, you'll can remove the possibilities of certain.
The %IFGS% is for example the German header, while the %IFES% is the English header, so if you aren't German, you can remove all the %IFGS%-starting lines from the whole program if you wish, many others have the Mod names etc. And if you are uncertain, modify all of the remaining lines.

For example some of the components in the tweak packs for BG1

Well, you then just use the BG2Tweakpack, cause the BG1Tweakpack is for BG1, not BG2 or BGT-WeiDU based mega mods, that your installation is going to be.

But now, being clueless... I have no knowledge of the .bat language. Is there some way to tell which components of a mod are which? And do I just delete the ones that I don't want like I'm planning on doing with the German headers? In other words, what did you mean by modify?

Yea, I guess that would make sense.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding mods that include banter packs for BG1... like Gibberling 3's BG1 NPC project. Not sure I want everything in that mod.

Thanks again.

Easy way:
1) Install BG2 Tweaks on the unmodded BG2 and pick the options that you want individually.

2) Open the weidu.log file that is created/modified after you have finished installing your wanted BG2 components.

3) Make a note of the component numbers that you decided that you wanted. (See example below)

4) Adjust the various lines in the .bat file to only list the component numbers you want (don't add any just remove the unwanted component numbers from each line) The installer requires the various component numbers to be installed in certain locations based upon what they do...

To determine mod component numbers (example from IWD weidu.log)
~G3DALETWEAKS/SETUP-G3DALETWEAKS.TP2~ #0 #1010 // Add Bags of Holding
The first entry inside ~~ is the location of the mod tp2 file in relation to the mods exe file
The second entry (in this case #0) is the language value. 0 is default and is automatically considered as English by weidu
The third entry is the mod component number (in this case 1010)
The last entry is the component name after a comment out mark

So as an example with the snippet posted earlier...
1) You don't want German so remove those
2) You didn't want certain components so you remove those numbers (I randomly deleted numbers for this example)
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 40 60 130 1010 1020 1090 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%Oversight%IFNIF%cliffhistory%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 1161 --logapp | %M%

%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%TDD%IFNIF%Divine_Remix%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2280 2290 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2300 3031 3121 3125 --logapp | %M%
REM %IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFIF%Valen%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3170 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%Saerileth.exe TYPE bg2tweaks_without_Saerileth_input.txt | setup-BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3183 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFIF%Saerileth.exe TYPE bg2tweaks_with_Saerileth_input.txt | setup-BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3183 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3190 4000 4041 4071 4110 --logapp | %M%
REM %IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFIF%Divine_Remix%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 4050 --logapp | %M%
I am guessing that the lines with %IFNIF% are BG2_Tweaks components that will only be installed if the mod listed after is not present. If one of those has a component you don't want -- delete that component number. If one of those only has one component number and you don't want to install it put REM in front of it. REM is short for remark which is how one makes comment lines in a .bat file. It would be similar to // in weidu.
I am also guessing that the lines with %IFIF% will only be installed if the mod listed afterward is present. If you aren't installing that mod don't worry about, but if you are remove that number. Again if there is only one component number listed and you don't want it put REM in front of the line.

In fact it would be a good idea on any line you modify to first copy it and paste it on the next line and put REM in front of the original, that way you've got the original for reference in case you decide the next time you play the game that you want to install it differently.

But before you do anything, wait and see if someone else who has actually used the Big World Setup can come along and confirm or deny what I've said. I just know some basics in .bat. I've never actually used the Big World Setup. Someday maybe, but not yet...

In other words, what did you mean by modify?

Well, you modify the numbers on the .bat after the lines once you have identified them.
Now, the identification is somewhat hard, but if we remove the German lines we get this:
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 40 50 60 110 130 1010 1020 1040 1090 1130 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%Oversight%IFNIF%cliffhistory%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 1161 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%FR_ROV%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 1170 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 1180 2040 2090 2140 2192 2200 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%TDD%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2250 2260 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%TDD%IFNIF%RR%IFNIF%song_and_silence%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2270 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%TDD%IFNIF%Divine_Remix%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2280 2290 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2300 3031 3050 3060 3121 3125 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFIF%Valen%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3170 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFNIF%Saerileth.exe TYPE bg2tweaks_without_Saerileth_input.txt | setup-BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3183 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFIF%Saerileth.exe TYPE bg2tweaks_with_Saerileth_input.txt | setup-BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3183 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 3190 4000 4010 4031 4041 4061 4071 4110 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%IFIF%Divine_Remix%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 4050 --logapp | %M%
The removal can be done cause we are not going to use them(for clarity).
So then:
%IFES%*modname1*%
Means the English install of the whole auto-installer added with the *modname1* that the current line represents. And the structure:
L%g%SK% x y z --logapp | %M%
is at the of the line, where the x y and z are numbers, and the small g is the language number, usually 0 on English.

Then I know that, this structure at the middle of the two previous line:
*modname2*%IFNIF%S%*modname1*
Means that, "If we don't install the modname2, then we install the numbered components from modname1."
While this line at the middle:
*modname2*%IFIF%S%*modname1*
Means that, "If we install modname2, we also install the numbered components on modname1."
While the:
%IFES%BG2_Tweaks%S%BG2_Tweaks%L%0%SK% 2300 3031 3050 3060 3121 3125 --logapp | %M%
Installs the component numbers 2300, 3031, 3050, 3060, 3121 and 3125 in every case.

The
TYPE <filename> |
Means that the installer looks at the file inside the "<game directory>\Big World Smoothpack\_modify" -folder for the file and it's inputs, at least in this case.

So then you just look what other components you have and if the line is not to your liking, you just change it by changing the component numbers or if it can't be replaced, you just delete or add them.
The component numbers should nearly all be at the BiG_World_Project.pdf file... it's also should be in the download folder... happy moding.

Well the PDF will be very helpful as it gives step by step instructions for each mod I can install and the various components of the mods I may want.
I guess I should have looked around a bit.

I'll give it a try soon using the PDF as a guide to install the mods and the components of the mods I want.

Just one final question... should the mods be installed in the order they are in the PDF? Like starting with corrections, then improvements, then the big mods, etc.

Thanks for the help and excellent work on this project.

Well generally there is a reason why the mods have an installation order, and that's why we have the BWS and BWP that use the BiG_World_Installpack's Big_World_Install.bat... which is quite well coded as it takes a lot of things to consideration regarding what mods you are about to install... as it generally installs every component from every mod it can if there is no mod that doesn't all ready install them or can't be installed with them.

As from looking the above example, if we chose to install the BG2Tweakspack but not the TDD, and do nothing to the auto installer, we would get the components 2250 2260 from BG2Tweakspack, that are the: [Un-Nerfed Sorcerer Spell Progression Table] and [Alter Mage Spell Progression Table], but if we chose to install the TDD, the installer won't install the 2250 and 2260 cause they aren't needed.

I gotcha... but the thing is I've never done anything with the .bat language and I just think it would be easier to install the components of each mod I want then to install everything which the BWS does and rely on something I have no skill in to remove the components I don't want.

That make sense?

Yeah, but that takes time... What? That we get a BWS that has all the setups it's about to have, including a mod component choosing option... if you thing it's hard to code the .bat, imagine how hard it's to code a program that can control that.

Actually it is not that hard any more (you can see that the code for displaying data, handling conflicts and all the selection-logic is already in the BWS), but time consuming -- well sometime it would be nice if I could think and type faster, but I can bear with it. :D

Getting the data into a machine and human-readable format that is easy to maintain - while keeping up with the quick BW-development - is kind of annoying. As is the testing and debugging. ;)

If everything's all right, we got it done till christmas. :P
If not: it's done when it's done.

Okay well...
I decided to go with the BWS and let it do all the installing.

I will learn how to do the .bat language with trial and error.

Before I get started I have another question or two.

My weidu log shows the component numbers so that should help out with removing the ones I don't want but some of the mods weren't installed.

Is it possible to run the BWS again for the mods that are missing?

Or should I just use the setup for each individual mod and then, as it'll be installed last, move it around in the big world install.bat to the proper places as shown by the PDF guide?

I'm thinking the latter is easier because it'll just be a copy/paste kind of thing.

thanks again.

No. You need to make a whole new install.

You do nothing to the .bat anymore after you have run it, or you'll mess more than you know. You need to get the new mods that haven't been installed yet by downloading them manually, and then extract them, and then move the extracted files into the game directory, and then run the setup-*modname*.exe, and then choose the components manually. With each mod separately.

If you used the BWS, you should have a backup now.

Remove the folders data, override.
Copy all files from the BiG World Clean Install and replace the existing files. (data and override should be in the BWCI-folder -- please confirm that first)
Move the Weidu.log to Weidu.txt.
Now you have a clean ToB-installation.

If you want a custom installation, edit the following line:
SET SK= --skip-at-view --force-install-list
to
SET SK= --skip-at-view

This will skip the installation instructions and you can select the components by hand, while the order is kept and the fixes are installed.

Maybe an obvious question but... just change the .log to .txt? Is that what you mean for moving weidu.log to weidu.txt?

If you want a custom installation, edit the following line:

SET SK= --skip-at-view --force-install-list

Where do I find that line to edit?

Obvious answers maybe but as I said... I'm clueless about these things.

thanks for the help

Okay, but don't they have to be in a specific order for them to work properly?

Or is that done automatically by Weidu?

One of the mods that didn't install is the A6XPATCH and the A6CHARMPATCH and they're both mods that are installed first before Ascension. So just manually download it and run the setup and it'll place it where it needs to be?

thanks for the help.

@inexorable
Order: That's why I suggest you edit the batch so the order is kept like it's said in the pdf-guide.
Log > txt: Sure. Otherwise the WeiDU-setup will try to uninstall stuff that does not exist.
Edit: Click BiG World Install.bat with the right mousebutton, select edit. Search for the declaration, modify it, save the document -- not as a text-file but as a bat-file that it is.

They work best with try and error, but as you may know, the BiG World People have done the trying for years, and so the BiG World Installer is very good knowing the best as of yet determined order.
The WeiDU(.exe named as setup-*modname*.exe) is just read only program, so it just does what it's said to do, so if you install a mod, it will install it, no matter what, unless there is coding problem.
