Predicament:
I just found out about all those great advanced fixpacks and tweaks and UB and whatnot. Only I am already at Curst and I'd hate to start a new game all over.
Right now I'm running on Platter's 1.37 fixpack.

So I come to you with the following question - is there a way to convert the savegames to the new versions without herculean efforts? As for me - I am tech friendly, but with no experience in IE or PS:T modding.

First, no, it is not possible.

But more importantly, why wouldn't you want to start over after installing all the changes? You'd miss out on almost everything!

Well, I'm kinda busy these days and PS:T being the game that it is(even without those additions) is eating away enough of my time already. :)
But I am considering it. We'll see...

The save game may work if you add the mods that early on, but absolutely no guarantees. Personally, I'd start over.

Also note that version 4.0 will be coming out around roughly December/January, and will have lots of new stuff, so you might consider just postponing a replay till then. Totally up to you of course. But either way, I really recommend not trying to install any mods mid-game.

Thanks. I read that 3.02 has an issue with alignment hits if some party members or civilians die for whatever reason. Is this present in 2.00 too? If yes ill patch, if no ill probably just continue the current game in progress or wait for 4.00. ( On a related note, youre very very evil, snagged scient :D He was about to make an Alpha Centauri patch, which incidentally is how i remembered about PS:T again. )

The alignment hit issues all exist in the vanilla game, they will be fixed for the first time in version 4.0.

Bah, I think it's the other way around, he worked on PS:T first and then took a few months off for Alpha Centauri, so you almost snagged him from us! ;) Unfortunately he's totally MIA now, has been for about 6 weeks, I hope he's okay :(

Ah i see, in which case the SMAC community was very lucky indeed. Regardless, any way to not install "fighter HitDice on lvlup" and thac0 changes? Seems like a pretty big change. Wouldnt really like the idea of my mage having fighter HP, and being a total wuss in melee combat early in the game.

ok i've installed all the 3.02 engine fixes but "fighter HP for mages" and questionable thac0 alterations. Also improved Dakkon Blade, although its borderline cheating hehe. Completely savegame compatible so far. (logically, since they only change the .exe file). Thanks again for interesting insights, and ofc for all the work on modding the game.
