Hi,

Quite a few hours into BG1 now and have been noticing my party of 6 starting to stutter when moving from one place to another.

What I mean is that when I instruct them to move, they move a little, stop for a fraction of a second, move a little, stop again etc. I've tried reducing all my graphic settings and general setting to minimum, it still happens so I don't think it's my computer.

I done a test by making a new game, and do not getting any sort of stutter with my new character in chapter one.

The only thing I can think of is it could be the pathfinding or the AI scripts? But I tried setting the path search nodes to 4000 (the minimum) still the same stutter.

Any idea what can be causing this?

Thanks.

I guess you tried disabling the AI scripts (lantern) as well?
This sounds like a looping script, which gets checked over and over, to me.
Try moving your party to a different area and/or change time of day to see if the problem persists...

Ok finally got my lazy ass to register

I checked night and day, different areas, same thing happens.

I also dismissed all my other companions so I was alone, went different area same stutter. And I checked whilst it was raining ingame, even if I don't move the rain stutters too, so I guess it could be a looping script...any remedy to fix it?

As a double check I starting a new game again quickly with a test character...no stutter at all in Candlekeep.

When and where did it first start?

Just started noticing it a day or so ago...been getting worse and worse.

It seems something is running in the background, looping as you suggested.

My installation went fine (Standard Install) and had no problems with the beginning chapters.

Hm, not a lot of information to go by.

Damn, that too complicated for me :(

Apart from starting a new game which I really would like to avoid (the hours wasted), any other suggestions?

If you don't want to try and diagnose it, then just try and play it through. Every stutter I've ever had has eventually gone away on its own if I couldn't figure out why it was stuttering.

Oh really?

That's good news...I may try that.

Any tips on how to speed it up? I'm trying to move between places on the world map, rest a lot, hoping it gets rid of the loop.

It might just be a poorly scripted NPC somewhere that desperately wants to initiate a conversation with your main, but can't find you because you're in another area and it's flipping out trying to find you.

To actually find the script requires you to run a stutter-test on all 9000 scripts in your game and that takes a few hours of patching just to get the stutter-test running. So, it's up to you what is the best use of your time.

Edit: Ignore the last part of my original message. My bad. I thought you were someone else.

Thanks for this...I found the cause of my stuttering!

It was the gem and scroll bags that had items in them!!

After putting them away in a external container I am stutter free!... But I've found out that certain maps can cause the dreaded stutter to come back

Like for example Cloakwood 1 which looks plot critical.

Ah well, will have to delay that map as much as I can.
