Hi,

I've downloaded the newly updated BWP files (v.9.8 of the Fixpack and Installpack).

But when I run the BWS, it doesn't show up to date material:

The mod selection screen shows the previous options I could have (like the 9.6 versions of the Fixpack and Installpack, previous versions of then available mods, no sign of Fishing for Trouble, etc.).

I think the first time I ran it, it did show the updated selection, but at one point, I wanted to have a clear picture of my selections from a previous attempt, made before the BWP update. So I imported my previous selection list. It showed the list as it was, with the previous selection options and all. But when I would run the setup again, the outdated selection list would remain.

I tried continuing the process to see if the links update would correct this, but it didn't. The setup searches for the previous versions of the mods available then, including all the BWP mods. Same when testing for already downloaded mods: it doesn't detect the 9.8 versions of the BWP packs and shows that the 9.6 versions are needed, and it calls for previous versions of lots of mods.

I also tried deleting the BG1 and 2 folders, and extracting the clean folders I had archived previously, as well as deleting the BWP setup program and download it again, in a download location different from it's previous location. When running the setup again, I accepted its update, first with the "hint" update, then later again with the "automatic" update.

All with the same result.

I can't seem to be able to get the updated mod selection list back in the BWP setup.

Any ideas, before I go for the drastic (but won't-necessarily-work) complete game uninstallation and reinstallation solution?

Thanks

The automatic updates don't all cover everything... that's why I have given 4 different backup ways to use under a few circumstances...

Ok, so aside from using the "backup" option during the setup and archiving the BG1 and 2 folders before modifications, what other types of backups are there that could've helped me avoid this situation?

Any ideas on what went wrong here?

Thanks.

The behaviour is ok/can be explained.
It's just that the last update was for 9.6 some weeks ago.
I guess nothing since new years day.

If someone feels like doing it, I'll explain what you have to do.

Well, I know I can change the links and mod names and data manually during the setup process (had to do it for CtB in my last attempt), but I just wanna avoid the hassle if possible. So, assuming that this isn't what you had in mind, what do you propose?

A shame, I was pretty sure my first use of the setup this time around had the updated list, and that I screwed it up by importing a list from a previous unupdated attempt.

Well, I've got the beta updated and have a script that can update the normal mod.ini.
Someone would have to update the chapter.ini (do some sorting, adjusting chapter-numbers), which is a bit annoying.

Hmm, thinking about it, I may be able to write another script for that work.
At least that seems to be some fun to save myself some time later.

If you have downloads from previous sessions, I'd like you to look into the HISTORY-chapter of the guide.
It tells you about updated/new mods. Get those from the new BWP-Links-site (pretty neat site at the Kerzenburg-forum if I may say so). Then unpack the BWP Installpack and use the BiG World Unpack.bat from the additional-tools-folder to set up the installation.

Hmm, the site looks nice indeed!

I'm not sure I'm following everything you're saying here (I'm getting tired), but I'll be sorting and checking this out later. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks!

Have you uploaded a new BWS somewhere (or will you be doing so)? Is this (2010-11-30) still the most recent version? I think you should mirror it here too, otherwise people will be downloading an old version from last March. I'm sure you could get access to do that (if you don't have it) in Leomar's absence.

The file you link to (at bplaced.net) is the beta.

The standard-version from this site fetches program-updates (20110115)and link-updates(201101031) from Kerzenburg, which lifts the package to 9.6 as pointed out above.
The beta fetches updates from bplaced which have roughly the same date.

I've talked with Leonardo about merging the two version into one, but that may take a bit of time and until that, the old version will stay at it is now. The standard version runs the batch from Leonardo and the beta doesn't and since I think the original way to install deserves to be/should be available.

I've created the script to create the file for the sorting/chapters and ran the update-script for the mods content. So basically I just need to check the URLs and then I'll upload the updates to the Kerzenburg-server.

Since it's already midnight and checking/packaging will take some time, I'll just go to sleep and try to do that tomorrow.

Incidentally, a lot of mods listed aren't on that list. I found most of them from searching but couldn't find at least two (Umbra von Trow and Legion of Hell).

Pfff!... slacker. :P (look who'se talking ;) )

Ok, so if I get this correctly, I'm basically gonna skip the setup portion of the process, download the up-to-date mods I want manually (since I already got most of 'em, this shouldn't be to much of a hassle), from the site you shared, and then run the install? Didn't realize you could skip the setup before installing when starting from scratch: that would work great! And that Kerzenburg links page will make this a lot easier!

Thanks a bunch!

Getting back to you with the results later on...

Yeah, the list does not include mods from 9.6 onward. :D
So here are the mods that are missing in the list:
Spoiler

About installing without BWS:
The standard BWS basically just sets things up for the BW Install.bat.
Since Leonardo plays with mods that aren't in the list of the BWS, he wrote this batch and if you have your mods in the right folder, it's extract everything and you can start the bat. The approach is a little bit different, but it should work out as expected.

BWS std + beta are updated so you're able to fetch the new mods.

Any idea when bwl will be fixed? Azure, Lost Crossroads Spell Pack and another mod I currently don't remember can't be fetched from the server.

Tower of Deception is the only other notable mod there that I recall. Who knows, maybe they put them all behind the paywall. Galactygon put LC SpellPack up on gibberlings3.net somewhere, but I don't know if it's a public link. I don't know why it isn't though - it's a beta just like the previous releases.

If you've already got mods downloaded and put them all in BGII - SoA/BiG World Downloads, it should find them automatically, right? Unless they're outdated and there's newer versions I suppose.

I got the update for BWS and the install went fine. Only two issues mentioned in a more recent topic here, about BGT-NPCSound-WeiDU and the "Improved Golems" component of SCSII.

BWS std + beta are updated so you're able to fetch the new mods.

The beta here still has a 20101130 timestamp. Did you put it somewhere else or does it get the updates dynamically from some other source?

Sure, I stick with the "main file + updates" mechanism.
You can access the files via http://bwp.bplaced.net/bwp_updates, the BWS itself uses ftp to access the files due to some errors that could not solve when using http. The files in that archive are patches that are applied to the main files, so you just see the changes in there.
