Couldn't find an answer to this and I've just installed and reinstalled BG and BG2 with expansions 4 times already, so kind of sick of making mistakes I'm going to finish BG1+ and then export my character to BG2 and play on from there. Now, the BWM install how-to tells me to make a char both in BG1 and BG2 and quicksave. Am I wrong to assume that the quicksave character from BG2 is the one I have to play when using BWM? Should I skip the BG2 char creation and then reinstall BWM when I've finished BG1 and imported it to BG2 (+ quicksaved)? Confused as a fart in a strawhat.

Yes, see the game needs to be playable... and the best way to ensure this is starting a new game and seeing if there's things wrong, like the fog of war being all cheesed of... and then player can then sees, that it's not the BWS'es fault. The starting also auto configures the game somewhat, so... it's best this way.
You can start the BGTed game from the SoA portion of the game if you go to the old tutorial start (with the old Graphical User Interface), the BGT's setup-gui.exe updates that so it reads BGII:SoA ...
If you wish the multiplayer in SoA, you just start a single player game in SoA, save the game, quit the game and copy the 'save' folders content to the 'mpsave' folder and then re-start the game and continue the multiplayer game by loading the singleplayer-save.
