NPCs at level 0? (didn't install the Level 1 NPCs mod)

Since I like to have as many options as I can, and I really like to pick some options and components that differ from the defaults, I went with the beta version of the BiG World Installer, and did what I wanted...
...and I started the game, got out of Candlekeep, Imoen joined my party, and was apparently level 0. She levelled up immediately, but I don't remember that kind of stuff from the games I played before. Since I didn't include the Level 1 NPCs mod in my modification (I really don't feel like levelling up every single NPC I pick up throughout the game, and I don't like that from a roleplaying viewpoint either), can anyone help me shed some light on this as to help me get my "normally levelled" NPCs in the game?
(it's no big deal if I'll have to make a megamod install again, like I said, I've just started).
i.e., which mod or component could have caused such behaviour?
Thanks in advance!

From the Installation guide.
Install Component 3020 [Allow player to choose NPC proficiencies and skills]? [N]ot Install
If you choose this component, you can choose the component "ToB-style of the NPCs" from BG2
Tweak Pack no more.
Note: the patch takes a few seconds to come into effect. If there's a 3-4 second pause when your
character's statistics (hit points, say) aren't right, don't worry about it.
The Level 1 NPCs component ?Joinable NPCs more closely match the player character's experience??
is recommended instead.
In fact, the tweak pack component by default doesn't install either.
So either a) you choose to install one of these two components from the tweak pack or SCS.
Or b) I have no idea what is going on =/

I'm doing the modding batch right now, and I hope I got it right this time. Many thanks to both of you again

Well, the answer would be yes, to both, but...is this what I should have turned off? Also, will turning this component off reduce the initial HP you mentioned as well? (I really don't feel like having NPCs with so many hit points, totally feels like cheating)
You get the exact same featured character if you choose the proficiency points as the original characters had. The 20 HP's are temporary, so once you level up the character, you actually loose them all, and you gain the characters actual HP's. So you are not actually cheating at all, by my book at least.

OK, I understand now that it's not cheating - I stand corrected. But I did say that it just "feels" like cheating, so it's just my own preference.
Many thanks once more
