OK

So I installed the recommened version of BiG World. Went through it all, followed the instructions to the letter with all the saves and everything. Got to the bit where it started to install the patches from the command shell. Thats when things went squiffy.

Although a lot of it said installed, a lot of it said not installed and I had to keep pressing enter to continue. Not very good if I had gone away and left it to run. Then at one point iut went crazy trying to save something to C:\Program Files..... but kept repeating itself but not finishing what it was writing. I dont know why it was trying to save to there because I specified and installed everything to C:\Games......

To get out of this I had to push Cntrl and Break. Then it carried on as usual with a lot of 'Patching and Installed' and a lot of 'Not Installed.'

Then when it finished and I started the game I couldnt see anything different. I tried starting all three games and nothing had changed. I started them from the normal exe's, not sure if that was the wrong thing to do as I couldnt find anywehre else that said to start it any different. BG1 ran fine, BG2 Shadows of Amn crashes everytime I started it.

Something aint right lol

I don't know much about the Big World Project. Their official support forum is this.
There should be a file called big world.log or something like that; attaching it might help understanding what has happened.

Installing the game to C:\Games... is correct, so that shouldn't be the issue; do you have an antivirus running?
Have you patched the game to the latest official patch (version [something]98) before modding?

Anyway, probably the best thing would be to uninstall the mods and the game, clear the game folder, and reinstall all.

I'd say, the best way to start bg2 is directly from BGMain.exe. That allows you, for instance, to copy the game to a different folder after installing it, correct the paths in baldur.ini, and to mod that second copy only, which makes it easier to get back to the original game if mod installation fails: the original game is still there, you just have to delete the broken game and reinstall mods, without having to remove the game
