Hi everyone.

Just wanted to say how great it's been to play BG 1 with the trilogy weidu installed! Amazing job done with this mod :)

Im starting to assign weapon proficiencies to my characters, but I am unsure of a few things:
Will keep the weapon proficiencies I assign them now into BG2?
Will all my NPCs go into BG2 with my main character?
If they go to BG2, will I be able to assign them class kits at some point? Will they keep the weapons and armour I get in BG1?

My party consists of Adjantis, Kivan, Jahera, Brawen, Imoen and myself (gnome illusionist) and the answers to these questions will help me to plan now who is gonna use what weapons and which style of combat.

This is what I am planning, though it could change if my characters do not continue into BG2. Btw any comments on this is very appreciated (and apologies if this is the wrong forum to discuss game tactics):

Adjantis: Shield and Bastard sword for AC tanking (Long bows for ranged) or Two handed swords (more user friendly for ranged with long bows).
When I got him he was level 2 and had 2 slots in Bastard sword, 1 slot in sword and shield, and 1 in long bows.
Since he will only get 2 more slots until he caps at 8 at 161000xp (ToSC) and since the best bastard swords in ToSC are only +1, I thought of investing those 2 prof slots into longswords to use the Longsword +2 looted from the corpse of Greywolf (3-10 Dmg; THACO +2; +1 Cold Dam. Seems the best longsword in ToSC).
If he does continue with me into BG2, I could invest in Two-handed swords instead, and in BG 2 invest in two-handed style (though I?m not sure yet if two handed swords are the best weapons for him in BG2).

Kivan: Archery with Long bow of Marksmanship and two weapon fighting dualling Drizzt's scimitars.
When I got him he was level 2 and had 2 slots in Long bows, 2 slots in two weapon fighting style and 2 slots in spears.
He will also get 2 more slots until he caps at level 8 in ToSC, so the plan is to put one in scimitar and one in two weapon style (bringing it up to three slots and reducing penalty with off hand to -2).

Jahera: Two-handed fighting with quart staff or shield and dagger(slings for ranged).
When I got her she was level 1/1 and had 2 slots in quarterstaff and 2 in slings. There seem to be a few nice staffs up to ToSC, including a +1 from Silke very early in the game, to a +3(4-9 dmg); Staff Mace (4-10 dmg); Staff Spear +2 (4-11 dmg); and Staff of Striking (10-15dmg!!!).
Assuming the frequency she gets proficiencies is that of a fighter (not completely sure about that) and that she will be a Fighter6/Druid7 at ToSC level cap, she will get 2 more prof slots to spend, so the plan is to invest in dagger to use Dagger of venom with shield AC tanking until I can get hold of the better staves. The selection of clubs for ToSC seem really bad, though i read briefly in a BG2 forum that there are awesome clubs in BG2.
If she does continue in BG2 and retain the profs I gave her in BG1 it would probably be better to use 2 slots in clubs and in BG2 focus on two weapon style. Another alternative is to focus on two-handed style for the ubber quarterstaff in BG2 I also briefly read about but know not much about.

Brawen: Healing and ranged with sling mainly, occasionally melee with war hammer and shield buffed up by spells.
When I got her she was level 2 and had 1 slot in War hammer and 1 in slings.
She will use the Warhammer +2 looted from the corpse of Bassilus (4-7 dmg; THACO +2, +1 elec. dmg, which seems to be one of the best weapons in ToSC).
She will get 2 more slots until she caps at level 8 in ToSC, and since she is pretty much set up for BG1, where I should spend these depends if she goes into BG2 or not (and if she keeps the profs I choose in BG1) and on the best weapons in BG2 for her (yet to investigate).

Imoen Rog 6/Conjurer 9: Archer with short bows alternated with spellcasting + find traps, open locks, pickpocket.
When I got her she was level 1 and had 1 slot in Short bow and 1 in Short sword.
The options of short bows seem quite nice Short bow +1 and then Eagle bow (+2 dmg, THACO +2) and if she ever needs to meele there are a few short swords I will come across and she can have (+1, +2 and Short sword of backstabbing).
She will get 1 prof slot in her 6 levels as rogue and another 1 in her 9 levels as mage, and since she is also pretty much set up for BG1, where I should spend these depends if she goes into BG2 or not (and if she keeps the profs I choose in BG1) and on the best weapons in BG2 for her (yet to investigate).

Myself: Gnome illusionist spellcasting + ranged with darts (I find the darts' high ROF great for disrupting enemy spells).

Thanks in advance for any help/advice given.

When I read again what i wrote i thought something was maybe unclear.

I am currently playing BG1 now (with trilogy weidu), still at early stages, just starting to assign proficiencies cause they leveled to 3. Im not in BG2 yet at all :)

It doesn't seem like you're using BGT?

I am using trilogy weidu, I start the game by clicking BG2 and choose Bladur's gate, single player and then my game.

It must be working with the mod, but you saying its not made me think if something is wrong.
Is it not running with trilogy? What made you say it isn't?

Well your xp won't cap at all with BGT ^^ except ToB lvl cap

Looks like BGT is your only mod installed? I'm not seeing shiny/crazy weapons like the staff of thunder and lightning (omg) I got for Jaheira on Cloakwood druids iirc.

Anyway your proficiency choices look fine, just go for 2 handed swords with Ajantis for BG2 8)

I'd get 1-2 more lvl with Imoen before dual-class'ing her (for more HP and skill points). Although without mods you might not make enough XP to recover Thief levels before transition to SoA

Your party should stay with you with the proficiencies/etc.. you picked during BG1 as far as I know but you'll get an extra crazy ranger when SoA starts, you can just leave him to rot I guess :D

Thanks a million for the info Beleg33!!!!

Indeed I haven't installed any other mods, just the trilogy. Tbh i'm not sure if other mods are too buggy or include extras that ubalance the game too much. I chose trilogy because the idea of playing it all as one continuous game sounded awesome (also the use of Bg2 engine for Bg1 is great, particularly pausing the game when I see my inventory).

I was quite tempted to make Adjantis use two handed, I just wonder if this would affect his AC a lot since I wanted him to be my tank (probably not in BG1 as the best shield I can get is a +1 Large shield, but maybe in BG2 there are better shield bonuses?)

I like your advice for imoen, I can definitely use more skill points to max out traps/open locks and a few on pickpocket to lessen the number of realoads when trying lol. I might have to go with her and kill some respawns in some areas for extra xp to catch up, but perhaps a level 7 rogue would give me enough skill points in what i really need as a thief.

Great news that my party will go to BG2 as they are with their proficiencies!!! I will look now into what weapons are good in BG2 to choose my proficiencies.

Thanks a lot for the advice :)

For Ajantis just keep him like this and go sword+shield, putting points in 2-handed sword/fighting style when available so you're ready when Carsomyr is available (one of the best weapons available in BG2, paladin only ;))

About kits you already have them available since you're playing BG1 within BG2 engine.
Sadly you won't be able to change them unless you some ShadowKeeper and CLUAConsole hackery
If you wanna go that road because you don't mind a bit of cheating I'd say change Ajantis bastard swords prof to long swords.

Last thing, don't hold too much onto your BG1 team, BG2 adds a lot new joinable NPCs, and most importantly banters/interjections/romances!

ok hehehehe, perhaps i got a bit too attached to them already. I guess it would be nice to meet some new companions when I get to BG2. I know Jahera and Imoen will be there, so i guess half my party will be from the old days ;)

Dunno how far into BG2 Carsomyr is but I was thinking of using his 2 prof points in BG1 to get flail/morninstar proficiency to have access to blunt weapons for skeleton bashing, and then in BG2 use my first 2 points for 2handed swords, and then specialise in 2handed style after that. Does that sound good? (well by the sound of what u said I'm probably gonna prefer another pally from BG2? lol)

In realtion to the kits, although they were available to the character I created, my pally, ranger, etc. are all normal classes, none have a kit.
I dunno how the transition to BG2 happens, my doubt was when Im finally there if there will be am option straight away to assign kits to whoever I have with me (dunno if I will load into BG2 alone at first, and then re-meet my companions?)

Thanks again

Jarls BGT Tweak Pack can change some of the npc kits in BG1, there are other components though that you might or might not want to touch.

There's also the "LVL 1 NPC" mod available on G3 (Gibberlings Three, another modding community for BG and other IE games). It allows complete customization of the joinable NPCs.

Whatever you choose to do, you'll have to start a new game for the mod changes to take effect. You might as well just stick with what you have and not bother.

No. With BGT the transition to BG2 is made with a small cutscene and then it resumes with the vanilla intro and you pop at BG2 starting location with your mates around.

1. Well the NPCs that are still alive and encountered in BGII, will keep their proficiencies, class and kits and stat points, IF they are in your group when you talk to Belt and take his offer to go to Amn...
2) No, they are still at their original BGII locations.
3) No, the kits are set either at the start of the adventure or if you like, you can give them a kit with save editor like the ShadowKeeper.
