I don't understand this at all.

I've got the US version BG:ToTSC v 5512 from the 4n1 dvd set.

I download the 'BG1 Missing Files' which supposedly were deleted by the 5512 patch. However, when I look at that list of files and compare that to NI every single one of them is present and accounted for. Can someone enlighten me as to why they are 'missing' when they are indeed present?

Most of them don't play anyway, they could if the sound were associated with the appropriate dialog string reference. error01.wav is the most well known and there are mods to shut that up (i.e. remove the sound from the associated string reference)

Perhaps the description of this should be changed, because I noted that BG2 does not have most of those sound files. Maybe it isn't a fact that the BG1 5512 patch deleted them but that they are missed during the BGT conversion process. Seems more likely as I saw a note in this thread that said:

f) BG1 Missing Files 2 (William Imm: Look on the linklist for the appropriate version, and extract into the BG1 directory. With the next version of BGT, this is not going to be needed anymore.)

The question then is: Is BGT 1.14 'the next version' which makes this unneeded?

The "next version" I'm referring to is BGT 1.15, and I added that in by a observation by Hurricane earlier.
At this point, I'm not really doing much Baldur's Gate related. More focused on Skyrim modding and the Born of Legend tabletop roleplaying game. Don't expect much activity here.

Ok. what about the reasoning behind the fix?

and a look at the code for BGT 1.14 includes getting all but intro01.wav & intro02.wav Those are the only ones missing from a self install of BG2 Fixpack followed by BGT 1.14 And that's cause they aren't included in the code via regexp cause they aren't used in the BG:ToTSC game and so don't need to be transferred over

At any rate I'm going to try the BWP without as I feel it's unnecessary.

So it is really for German only.
Still doesn't explain why they say English users need to apply those files they already have.

Yes, I recently re-examined the problem for the German version of BG1, and I came to the same conclusion. The English BG1 does not miss any sound files. There is no point in the English missing files package at all. So, as I investigated the issue for BG1 German, I also wondered how the English missing files package came into existence then, and what BGT and the BWP ought to do about the whole issue now.

Hence I created two threads: hook71 linked to the one in the BGT subforum, in which I first explained the whole issue from a BG1 perspective and, subsequently, how it affects a BGT install. You can have a look at this thread to see that we are currently working on integrating the necessary changes into the BGT setup. It turns out that most languages other than English are affected.
The other thread is this one, which I opened at the same time right here in the Mega Mod section. In this topic I am detailing all I have found out about the BWP's "misconception" of the Missing Files issue, and what should be done about it. Please be sure to read it!

Suffice to say that BGT will be taking care of the whole BG1 missing files problem, and correctly this time. BWP's entire "BG1 Missing Files" component will be unnecessary in the future (that's what William's additional sentence in the guide was supposed to hint at). The required changes within the BGT setup will be included in the version 1.15. However, since the final version 1.15 has not been released just yet, the BWP's install instructions cannot be updated yet, because BGT 1.14 still is the most current official version of BGT. So you kind of jumped the gun there, that's all. :) I hoped that I had taken care of properly informing all parties involved about my finding and about the ramifications of my suggested overhaul and solution of the whole problem for BWP, but apparently you simply missed my threads.

That happened to me about a year ago. I found that if I copied "missing files" first than installed "5512 patch", that BiG World Install.bat reported "missing files" missing. When I reversed the order, installed "5512 patch" first than copied "missing files", there was no problem. I never checked to see if "missing files" were really missing or if this was a problem with BiG World Install.bat.
