Hi everyone I'm new on this forum,
I have a problem installing BGT-WeiDU 1.15, I've read all the instructions, FAQs, and troubleshooting posts I've found about installation problems but I still can't solve it.

I'm not sure if I'm doing correctly opening a new post or if I should do it inside another one, so excuse me if I'm doing wrong.

I have the GOG version of both Baldur's Gate I & II, I install them, I copy the audio and text from spanish version, install a fixpack for this spanish version and when I install BGT, at some point it says:
Error cannot create output area WED file

Then it starts uninstalling all BGT.

What's weird is that I installed all that just yesterday in another computer and all was ok (the game was runing, all ok, not even one single problem), and I did exactly the same for the installing process (exactly the same because I do it following a spanish installation guide).

I'm using Windows Vista (W7 on the other computer, the one that run ok) and I've tried installing in a directory different than Program files, disabling windows UAC, antivirus, etc.

I attach the SETUP-BGT.DEBUG.

I don't know what the hell is happening, that's why I ask you for help :)

...

Actually this is the first error it gives:

  Restoring backed-up [bgt/backup/0/arealink.2da]
And there's no mentioning of the error you say... it might be in the setup-BGT_DOS.debug file...

What's weird is that I installed all that just yesterday in another computer ...

In that case, what you probably should do is to copy the game from one computer to the other ... it's far better this way too if you want to install more than the 2 mods(Fixpack & BGT) cause this guarantees the two games are exact replicates, and if you intent to install the Widescreen mod, install that after the game have been copied to both games individually with their own set of resolution the monitor and GPU can use.

Actually this is the first error it gives:

Yes, you're right, I typed that error direct from the DOS window and now I can't find it in the debug. Maybe this one is more specifical...

I've tried again, now without all the spanish additions, so just install GOG version of BG I & II and BGT and still having the same problem. I'm adding an image of the problem I told you about

I don't know what else to do... so I'll try what you said about making a copy of the game in the other computer in a few days.

I know this sounds blatantly obvious, but do you have the right patch for BG 2 installed when you try to install BGT?

I am also having problems installing BGT 1.15. I have BGII patched and the fixpack installed. When I run the BGT installation, I get this error (pasted from part of the debug file, after all the CRE files have been created):

Thank you. I uninstalled and reinstalled both games to the directory C:\games\Black Isle, and got the same error message on the same line. Here is the current debug file (again, after all the BG1 CRE files are created):

Well, this would indicate that you don't have a full install or something blow the BG1's character away. Uninstall both games, then remove the game folders and reinstall both games and the patches. Don't install any mods to the BG1 game, just the patch if the game doesn't come with it, then install the BG2 patch and the G3BG2Fixpack like you did to the BG2 folder, then run the BGT...

Hmm, what version of the games do you have ? Is it some particular one so to speak, cause the .cre file is in my BG1's override -folder. English, 5+1 CD version patched to v(1.3.)5512.

Thank you! I have version 1.3.5508 of TotSC, according to the readme that came with it, and have patched ToB to 26498. I've done a full install of both games with all boxes checked. I have the same game I used to have on my old XP computer, installed using the same method I used on the old computer. On the old computer, BGT installed with no problems (admittedly it was an earlier version). The only difference I've noticed is that when doing the full install of BG1 on the new computer, I get an error message telling me there is not enough room for all the files, even though there is plenty of room (I have 385 GB free even after installation). The instructions for BGT say to just ignore this error message and install anyway if there is really enough room, so I have gone ahead and installed, although I have noticed that the install progress bar seems to stop at 75% and say it's finished installing, but if this is the problem, I have no idea how to correct it.

Is there a file called: "Readme_patch.txt" ... cause that would be with the latest version. If not, you need to update to the v1.3.5512, via the 5512 patch. Here's a link the US one at least.

The only difference I've noticed is that when doing the full install of BG1 on the new computer, I get an error message telling me there is not enough room for all the files, even though there is plenty of room (I have 385 GB free even after installation).

The critical info you missed is that that the warning message says that there might not be enough room, as in, it's not definite, because the program was not made to 2010's computers but to 1990's computers.

Thank you! I have version 1.3.5508 of TotSC, according to the readme that came with it,

Thank you - I reinstalled the game and applied the patch, and I noticed that I now have karoug.cre in the override directory. Unfortunately, now I have a different problem: When I try to install BGT, I get an error message telling me Baldur's Gate I is in an invalid directory or has an invalid installation.

I used a custom installation with all the boxes checked, and have put it in the same directory it was in before. The only difference is the patch.

Or you forgot something or another, like cleaning the BG1 folder before reinstalling the game to it. Here's the self diagnose help for the other part of the problem.

Thank you! I finally got the thing installed. I had to uninstall and reinstall BG to do it, and then it worked, although I hadn't done anything differently. The FAQ page really didn't help as none of the FAQ suggestions applied, but thank you for the link anyway. And thank you again so much for your help!

This morning, in my other computer (the one with BGT running) I've uninstalled all BG, because I had the widescreen mod installed, and installed all again without this one, and the game was running all with no problem. I've maken a copy of all the installation, just pasted now in my other computer (the one with BGT installing problems) and when I run the game, appears the little window with the options CONFIGURE, MOVIES, README, etc. but insted of play, I can only select INSTALL, and when I do it, just nothing happens.

Now I really don't know what to do :(

Run the game via the BGMain.exe, not the baldur.exe .

Not working this one:
An Assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 628
Programmer says: Unable to Open BIF:DATA\HD0GMSOC.BIF

Not working ...

Open the baldur.ini file with Notepad and check out what the drives are... list the six lines under the [Alias] word to a post.

Finally!! The directory that those six lines were refering had to be changed (my fault...) and now is working even with the other computer's savegame, so absolutely no problem now :D

Thank you all and specially Jarno for spending part of your time helping people like me :)

Good to hear that, and you are more than welcome.

As now that you have sold your soul to me, I only require you to help others, and if you will, use this threat as a good reference. Näh, but seriously, it's actually nice to be able to do this and it's actually addicting too. :D
