I must be missing something that is very obvious.

I know I have killed them before in previous games, but this time I cannot kill giant frost trolls (or is it frost giant trolls).  I vaguely remember using acid to kill them, but that is not working this time.

I run into the giant frost trolls when going to and from the Gnoll Stronghold and Dryad Falls or going to and from Dryad Falls and Fire Leaf Forest.  So far I have tried fire, acid, electricity and ice.  The giant frost troll just keeps on getting up to fight again.  Is this a bug?

Also, it bothers me that hobgoblin archers always poison you with their arrows, but never have poison arrows in the treasure.

Fire or acid should work... remember that the troll needs to first go down and then the damage needs to be affected, not before. As technically the monster is not the same one ... as you can't actually kill the upright troll at all.

And yes, there has been a bug with this. your weidu.log's content would need to be see-able ... erhm, I have no idea of what caused the former problem actually...

AFAIK, it is the same in the vanilla game (well they don't poison you EACH TIME, but they can poison you and they have no such arrows).

To be clear, it's the Hobgoblin Elite that can use poison arrows, and they are not drop-able ones.

Thanks for the replies.

I got attacked by another giant frost troll.  This time I timed it right and my Melf's Acid Arrow killed it.  I think I was having problems for one of two reasons.  The first is that I may have been casting too early and the giant frost troll had enough hit points to absorb the damage.  The other reason is that I may have waited too long and the giant frost troll regenerated enough hit points to absorb the damage.  This time I noticed that when you attack him while he is down, no weapon could do any damage.  Well maybe it has been that way all along, but as I said I just noticed it.

Very interesting comments about the hobgoblins.  I am running into them on almost every area.  I am low on potions to cure poison so I am healing my party until the poison quits working.  Jaheira only has two cure poison spells and they do not last long.  The hobgoblins  favorite target is Dynaheir.  As soon as she is cured, she gets poisoned again with another arrow.  Oh well, that is adventuring.

Well, as a matter of fact, the downed troll shouldn't be able to regenerate any hitpoints as it should have only 1 the whole time it's down... and when it comes back up again, it will then have full/nearly full hitpoints again. That's how the game has always worked, as in fact the downed troll and the up one are not the same creatures in the fact that even if you hit the up one with time delay effects and then it goes down, the downed one won't get hit by the effect even if it should.
