Baldur's Gate II: Wild Surges

I was looking through a Baldur's Gate II walkthrough and it mentioned fixing the wild surges to a specific one using CTRL+H. I have tried using it to fix it to #59 (makes weapons glow), but I must be missing something, cause I can't get it to work. Does anyone know how to make it work and/or will it work in Shadows of Amn as long as Throne of Bhaal is installed?
Thanks,

To do that, you just Search for that file, open it, then under the line "Program Options," type Debug Mode=1, save it, and open your game. I think pressing Ctrl+H should work now, but you may have to enable your cheat keys first. This is done by pressing Ctrl + Space bar to pull up the text line at the bottom of your screen, then typing CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys(), and Enter. I believe that should do it.

Throne of Bhaal adds a new one:
CTRL+H -- Fixes a wild mage to a specific surge, such that every time he
casts a spell he gets that surge. Setting the Surge Number to 0
undoes the surge fixing and goes back to normal functioning (or
malfunctioning as the case may be).
Any other ideas?

Perhaps a more tech savvy person can give you an easier method for making your weapons glow, eh?

P.S.
Oh, and the method I gave you actually makes it so every spell cast experiences the surge...perhaps not what you're looking for?
Sorry lad, wish I could help more

Thanks for your reply. Will try a clean install of SOA and TOB without any additions and see if it works then (I have had extras installed since I first went through the whole game as a Barbarian). Otherwise I wouldn't know what the problem could be.
I would make the weapons glow but my knowledge is limited to Visual Basic 6 at the moment in terms of programming languages. Tis an idea though to learn how to use the engine now that I have a few months holiday before uni starts.
Again Thanks,

A clean install of Baldur's Gate II with no patches/upgrades worked. Am in the process of finding the patch/upgrade that caused the problem and I'll post here when I find it.
Thanks,
