Hi!

Since I made a BWS install to play the complete BG series, I decided to write down any bugs I encountered during my playthrough. I finished BG1&TOTSC, and am in Irenicus' dungeon now. So I will post all the bugs that have caught my attention up to this point. Modders, please let me know if what I did is helpful, so that I will continue doing it in BG2 and TOB. In the event that it's pointless, let me know also:)

BG1TOTSC:

Wizard Slayer: No description of disruptive strike, inner focus.
Totemic druid's leap attack seems overpowered.
Totemic druid's cause medium and cause serious wounds are both lvl3 spell.

Totemic druid's regeneration spells are ignored by the bpft-dr script.

BPFT-CL script has thief options for cleric. I might be wrong but it seemed the script ignored the usage of Cure moderate wounds spell, though it used other Cure spells.
BP scripts seem unresponsive to pressing S to activate Summons. However near the end of the game, summoning casts started to appear. So it may not be a bug.

Melicamp's portrait stays a chicken, even after he's been reverted.

Jebadoh and Telmen don't have portraits while Sonner does.

CK Inn: Upon entering floor 2, the party does not spawn atop the stairs, but rather in a room nearby.

Brun's house in Fishing Village: when you enter, you appear in the middle of a room instead of at the entrance.

Whenever you enter Thieves' Guild main room from the left entrance, the party is not placed at the door upon arrival, but in a nearby room.
Store in BG NE area (above Jacil): when you enter, you are not placed directly in front of the door.

Blushing Mermaid: When arriving to the bottom floor from upstairs, the party isn't placed below the stairs, but in a nearby room.

Cause light wounds (priest) is the name for 2 different spells with 2 icons, their description vaires slightly. Seems redundant.
Larloch's minor drain and Cause medium wounds seem very underpowered. Probably other Cause wounds spells also, but I forgot.

Vapiric touch seems underpowered.

If a protagonist bard casts find familiar, nothing happens.

Dispel magic also dispels buffs from friendly units, despite the description saying otherwise.

Sirine's toxic vapours are very powerful and can backfire on sirine, making her your (charmed) ally. Same with nereids. My charmed party members aren't hostile toward me, but stand still. Maybe because their are blinded. Every fight with sirines and the like thus turned to a big mess, since it wasn't just my party being charmed, but sirines also.

Hareishan's domination has the same problem as that of the sirines, namely he dominates one of my members while making some of the enemies, and even himself, ally to me.

Dimension door: It has the same description as dimension jump, a lvl 1 spell. It does not seem there is a difference between them, except that one is inscribed in the lvl4 section of the book, and the other in lvl1.

Buggy Scroll: There is a buggy scroll in the game that has an image of Animal Sumonning 4, but its description (and possibly cost) is that of a lvl1. It can only be cast by a cleric (unmemorable), and you need to select a unit to cast it on. You cannot just cast it on the ground. The summons are 3 leopards.

Summoned hobgoblin archers do not follow move commands. They stop moving after a second the command is given.
Druid's animal summoning I: The bats are hard to control, as they only follow the move command for 1 second and then stop in their tracks.

Summoned shadows don't obey move commands well.

Unfinished business: Shilo Chen: A little misleading quest location. Or, I should say, very. Larswood = Wood of Sharp Teeth?

Unfinished business: In Larswood, there is a stone with the inscription: Wood of Sharp Teeth. Is Larswood a part of those woods?

Graphical error at the south rim of BG East (possibly only at night). A few nights after it disappeared.

As long as the door to Varci's house is closed at night, there is a graphical error.

Graphical error: during the night at the entrance of the Iron Throne building. While raining.

Journal: Quests "Investigate Firewine ruins", "Prism, the emerald thief", "Bandits!", "Investigate Durlag's Tower", "Re-investigate the Iron Throne", "Investigate Duke Eltan's healer, Rashad", and "Investigate Flaming Fist Headquarters" are never marked as completed or removed.

Journal: When talking to Herschel, the journal entry is placed without the title line.

Journal: The quest "Find Therella's son",  is moved to completed quests before you visit Therella after rescuing Dalton. Shouldn't it remain unfinished until then?
Journal: After talking to Sorrel, you get 2 journal entries at once, and one of them does not have a title.

Journal: Alatos: Since his quest has a timer, it would be great that this piece of crucial info be mentioned in the journal.

Journal: Lusselyn's quest text in Journal says he is at the Blushing Mermaid, even though he is at the Splurging Sturgeon.

Journal: Ivanne's Journal Entry does not have a title.
Journal: Sugar's journal entry has no title. But if you reload and answer differently, the journal entry has a title.
Journal: Kaella's journal entry has no title.

Journal entry after taking Duke Eltan's body is without title.

Typo: Volo's greeting contains an error in the word Faerun.

Typo: in Detect alignment spell (priest) description. Forgot what it was but it's there.

Typo: Peasant in Nashkel: Greetings, YOUR new around here, aren't you.
Typo: Ruffie: demon's.
Typo: Amnish soldier: some of the younger guards might be nervous because of what's be going on.
Typo: Miner marvin: The mines are haunted!.
Typo: Bracers of archery description: ambush members -> ambushed members.

Typo: I believe Poe's verses should be in 4 lines not 3, because that makes the middle line twice as long as 1st and 3rd.

Typo: Protector of the second +2: in unknown -> is unknown.
Typo: Brage: Thy must guide me -> Thou.
Typo: Nalin: Thank you for bringing his body him here.
Typo: Girdle of gender: missing dot at the end.
Typo: Animal summoning 3: summons wolves, but description calls them war dogs.
Typo: Helm of defence: since *theirs* creation ... *theirs* core.
Typo: Detect alignment: priestd
Typo: Svirfneblin pickaxe: Pickaxes also ideal.
Typo: Cloak of non-detection: became.
Typo: Bartender in Elfsong should, in his welcome dialog, say "not" instead of "no".
Typo: Monster summoning IV has a repeated sentence.
Typo: Alatos says that the guard *have* been exceptionally vigilant, which is probably a typo. Or the *guards* have been.
Typo: Husam says "CandleKeeps". Maybe it's a typo due to a capital letter in the middle.
Typo: In dialog with Maple Willow Aspen, the question with a possible typo says: "So, your parents very fond of trees."
Typo: The sign on the Water Queen's House has a typo.
Typo from Aldeth Sashenstar: "after your done."
Typo in the Journal: in one of the entries under "Investigate the Merchant Consortium's estate", it says "while we searching".
Typo from Tremain: Your off to your room.
Typo in Pixie dust: "Allies becomes".
Typo in True seeing: "This effectually neutralize ..., allow ..., make". Protection from blindness is repeated once in the description, which is reduntant.
Typo: When talking to Diarmid, one of the answers has a typo: "Don't want have him attacking".
Typo in "Investigate Durlag's Tower": They take people through rooms that *has* been cleared.
Typo in rumors: One of the dead *guys* son is now the leader.
Typo in Longtooth +2 description: An extra space in front of the word "Armor".
Typo in Holy Cloak: "then" instead of "than".
Typo: journal entry: Investigate Durlag's Tower: his hatred and fear that built this tower still *maintains* it.
Typo: Deathknight's dialog: *you* name will be forgotten.
Typo: Pang Wallen: I don't care why you're *hear*.
Typo: Husam: We can gain access *though* the sewers.
Typo: Duke Eltan: Take me to the *harbormasters* building. Should be: Harbor Master's.
Typo: Belt: "Is there anything I can do for you in return." Shouldn't there be a question mark?
Typo: Belt: "I'll divine his location *though* the power of my god."
Typo: The floating words when clicking on the Harbor Master's Building say: "HarborMaster's", which seems to be a typo.

Typo: Loading screen: There is an extra space in the sentence: If you die, check your auto save.

Typo: Lawgiver +2: Description does not mention that it cannot be used by bards, mages, thieves ...

Typo: Spider's bane does not say it is unusable by bards, but it is.

Typo: After flooding the mines, I got 2 contradictory journal (done quest) entries, one about not saving slaves, and the other about saving them from the flood.

Typo: Bartender's rumor that begins with "The Seven Suns has been acting very strange" has a typo, where Throne does not have a capital T.

Typo: Helm of Glory is missing the same description that the Helm of Despair has, namely that multiple Bless spells are not cumulative.
Typo: Ramazith: In his dialogue, the word Faerun is displayed incorrectly.

Typo: BG North: A perfectly beautiful house on the left side of the area cannot be entered, due to a message that says: "You see the door rotting at its hinges and people apparently abandoned it years ago." It makes no sense.

Typo: Lawgiver +2's restrictions say that chaotic alignments, beast master, and cleric cannot use it, but my swashbuckler and totemic druid also cannot.

Typo: the nightseason cutscene about Gorion bringing you to CK says: "It has claws for the feet you think to yourself: little skeletal claws." I think there should be a full stop after the word "feet".

Typo: Neb: "Murderer to murderer, *now*, monster to monster." Shouldn't that word be "no"?

Day-night gradual transition is non-existent. Change is abrupt.
Ludrug's challenge does not give 500 exp.
Nashkel merchant stops buying Winter wolf pelts after a few are sold, giving an excuse as to why. Is this supposed to be so? BG wikia says: "As far as known, the storekeeper buys them always, without any limitations." Another forum says: "SCS changes it to only let you sell one pelt to the merchant in Nashkel." So please, comment.

Possible bug: Kagain does not level up to your party's current exp. Same with Garrick and possibly someone else. Maybe that's because my party met them at lower level exp, but recruited them later, so maybe they only level to the exp the protagonist had back then.

World map: Cloud peaks = Gibberling mountains? It seems Cloud peaks should be somewhere else?

Lonely peaks: couldn't find Hulrik and Arabelle.
Taerom Fuiruim does not make an ankheg armor. What's up with that?
Giant snakes that Seniyad summons give no exp.
Cannot collect loot that Centeol drops.
Bartender from 2nd floor of Elfsong can sell you the Health amulet which can be worn by Wizard Slayer, even though it says otherwise.
Halbazzer Drin has some of the spell scrolls that are infinite in number. This should not be for obvious reasons. I know a player can just refrain from buying and rescribing, but why not set it to 6 or something.
Arkion did not give me a quest.
Ramazith: You can steal from him the same items twice: once without the tower, and once within.
Nantrin Bellowglyn has no voice whatsoever.
Merchant League: If you kill Zorl or Irlentree before they shapeshift, the mission is locked, as Brandilar keeps repeating you haven't killed them all.
Aldeth - by pickpocketing him outside the merchant's league, you can obtain an extra Lawgiver +2.
Ratchild: his 20 flame arrows +1 do not stack with the rest from the game.
Quest: Find an antidote for poison: When obtaining the scroll from the water queen, journal isn't updated. I didn't give her the book, though.
Heart of the Golem gives my Bard +2 ac instead of +1.
Ring of Opportunity cannot be equipped, if you have Ring of protection +1 equipped. It has the same restrictions as it.
CK Library: If you don't kill Rieltar's party, then go up to the Warden, and after his accusation that you murdered Rieltar go back down to the 3rd floor, Rieltar's party is still there unharmed.
Gurke's Quest suggestion: After finally bringing back his cloak in act 4 or so, you get a meager net of 300 exp. Shouldn't this be higher? You do get to keep the cloak, but still.
Mendas double kill: Once I brought the map to Mendas and he told me to meet him at the docks, I was able to kill him for 8k no rep penalty, and upon exiting his house, he still met me at the docks, as if nothing had happened.
Riggilo has Sarevok's letter. This shouldn't be. Right?
False exit in Durlag's labyrinth level 2 always spawns 3 skeleton warriors when you take the fake stairs. That means you can easily power up (12k exp per wave) by respawning them, and sleep in between when necessary. Respawning shouldn't be infinite.
If you kill Deathknight's mirror image, you get an exra bastard sword +2 and ring +2. Is that intentional?
There are different Rings of Wizardry throughout BG1. Two rings are alike, and the other two rings are alike. The first pair doubles the 1st level spells, while the other acts more bg2-like, and gives +1 spell for level 1-4. The first pair can be sold for 9000 gp per piece, while the other pair for 1500 gp per piece.
Should it be so that Benjy's mercenaries only give 15 exp each, within the Flaming Fist compound? So little.
Several locks in BG1 are unpickable and give a "mechanism" message, but at least some of them are definitely buggy, like the one in lvl1 Duchal Palace.

Skeleton warriors in Durlag's labyrinth levels look like normal skeletons. Weren't they supposed to look bigger?

Thieves' Maze: I remember Skeleton Warriors to be bigger. In addition, only some have enchanted swords, which is weird.

And here is my WeiDU log:

Spoiler

Take care, guys, and let me know whether I continue with it.

I'm not a modder, but I can tell you straight away that even though your post is extremely helpful, modders unfortunately wouldn't be of any use here. They simply wouldn't be spending time reading hundreds of lines of uncategorized reports for mods unrelated to their own. Even if they happen to find bug reports for their mods, I doubt most would rush to fix them.

The people who would find your post helpful and likely to make something out of it are the fixpackers - i.e. the ones who contribute fixes for mods to the BWP fixpack. Of course, even they would probably give up eventually after combing through hundreds of reports and oddities that would be pouring in.

So the best solution, IMHO, is to sort and categorize your findings on a per mod basis. Something like:

----------------------------------------------
[BG1NPC]
- typo in so-and-so's dialogue

[Tweaks Anthology]
- bug in blah-blah

[Unknown/Uncategorized]
- World map: Cloud peaks = Gibberling mountains? It seems Cloud peaks should be somewhere else?
- Cause light wounds (priest) is the name for 2 different spells with 2 icons, their description vaires slightly. Seems redundant.
-----------------------------------------------

Of course, this unfortunately means you have to learn about WeiDU, learn about --change-log and do a little bit of detective work to find out what mod(s) is causing what bug. And with a good text editor that can recursively search subdirectories, you can instantly find the root cause for all those typos.

I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but... it is what it is. Sorry :/

Thanks for responding. I don't know if I'll do the detective work, but I can sort the bugs at least in some groups. I understand how reading through hundreds of lines can be time consuming, but if many of the modders just took 2 mins to rush through the list, the bugs would be accounted for very quickly.

I just may continue writing down encountered bugs, seeing as to how much time modders and fixpackers invested in bringing us a great experience of this classic game (that by this post, I haven't finished yet!). Hopefully at least some bugs will be resolved.

if many of the modders just took 2 mins to rush through the list, the bugs would be accounted for very quickly.

I should emphasize that it would be mostly other players (rather than modders) who would likely be going through your list and could someday provide fixes. These days, it's usually the players who fix mods, not the original authors.

So if your information is not easily accessible or navigable to them, they could get overwhelmed. Since it seems like you would be updating your post frequently, that would mean they would have to repeatedly go through your list.

In other words, it all comes down to how you want to present your findings as a player in order to help the more experienced players zero in on the responsible mods.

Best of luck.

The 'problem' here lies in the fact that the Big Picture scripts probably totally ignore the Spell Revisions spells.

Totemic druid's cause medium and cause serious wounds are both lvl3 spell.

...

Cause light wounds (priest) is the name for 2 different spells with 2 icons, their description vaires slightly. Seems redundant.

Here the spell come from two different sources(mods).

Typo: Volo's greeting contains an error in the word Faerun.

Erhm, this might, or might not be so, see the words... there's no real correct way to say a continents name, let alone type it. Or, say you would just use the correct title of this world, "Maa".

Yep, Jarno Mikkola. my Mega Mod FAQ. Use of the BWS, and how to use it(scroll down that post a bit).
OK, desert dweller, welcome to the sanity, you are free to search for the limit, it's out there, we drew it in the sand. Ouh, actually it was still snow then.. but anyways.
