Multiplayer romances?

I had this crazy thought...
Could a player someone else than the protagonist have a romance (with Aerie, Nalia etc.)? Would it be too hard to do that. Just came to think about that, multiplayer can get boring with other players than the protagonist, so this could juice up things a little bit.
And a second thought:
*** spoiler? ***
Also I thought about Viconias romance with the PC. In Ust Natha there is this cage where are some of her (whatstheword) 'houses' drow. Read from somewhere that this was supposed to be linked to Viconias romance or something (but time ran out or something). Is anyone doing anything to this part in their mods?

So, what do you think. Opinions?

The main problem I see with multiplayer romances is that you know even less of the faithful sidekick of the protagonist than you know of the protagonist.

EDIT - Oh, and if it remained unclear: I'm all for multiplayer romances.

Kummalliset kalat liukuvat syvyydessä,
tuntemattomat kukat loistavat rannalla;
olen nähnyt punaista ja keltaista ja kaikki toiset värit -
mutta ihana meri on vaarallista nähdä,
se herättää tulevien seikkailujen janon:
mitä on tapahtunut sadussa, on tapahtuva minullekin.

You wouldn't have that converted Aerie romance anymore?As for multiplayer romances: yes, it's possible. My first adventure to workings of IE was converting Aerie's romance for player2 which was not that hard at all. However I never made (because at the time I did not know how to) weidu version of it.

And a challenge to someone:
Create a background story for the sidekick. Telling about his/hers childhood which could be connnected somehow to Candlekeep, and how he/she bravely fought at protagonists side back in BGI yada yada blah blah...
-->
Create/convert&modify romances to the sidekick. Converting could be easier, there is already so much romance mods. Beware not to break anyones copyrights.[U]

I think I still have somewhere on *paper* what files I changed. Between then and now I managed to screw up the game and was forced to do a re-install. Maybe someday I?ll do a more professional version of it?

What then would separate the PC(2) from and NPC (apart from being allowed to choose from dialogue options) if the modder designs his/her background. No, I think that the PC?s background needs to stay entirely up to the player. The obvious dialogue topics would still be: PC?s class or race; why the PC is following the protagonist; what he/she is thinking of all this bhaalspawn business and the protagonist?s legacy. One should not talk too much of the protagonist though, or it will become questionable of whom the NPC is really interested. However it could be interesting to write conflict between the protagonist and the sidekick with the NPC being interested in both. Real-life friendships might be in danger though.

I think of bioware (female) romances Aerie's was easiest to convert as she talks a lot about herself. The loveinterest being a bhaalspawn is mentioned only a couple of times.
Viconia is much more interested in you legacy and powers and that means more re-writing. I also doubt that she would aim for anyone else than the top dog.
I have yet to play Jaheira?s romance but I'd imagine that that would involve a lot of re-writing.
I would not touch any modded NPCs.

OK, I agree that PC´s background should be his/hers own. It was just a thought. But if someone has written a good backstory for sidekick, I would like to read it. I think it is needed to do like the protagonists background. Without any notions to characters gender/race/alignment etc...What then would separate the PC(2) from and NPC (apart from being allowed to choose from dialogue options) if the modder designs his/her background. What you mentioned for dialogue is quite good. I´d add questions about PC2 childhood perhaps?
That conflict (if done properly) would be a nice add to the game. If NPC becomes interested in both PC´s, how about a little contest to win the NPC´s heart, hmm?

I think this should be done for Aerie only. Viconia and Jaheira should be left for the protagonist. As you said, too much re-writing (and Jaheira romance is a looong romance).
