It would be perfect for a mod where you play as either a criminal or a law-keeper type (like a detective or something). The main plot being either to clean up the city and surrounding areas or to become the most powerful crime boss.

It would give a chance to make it a twink unfriendly game.... to make it less based on any given stat

Nobody seems to like the idea of an asia minor esque mod or an arabic mod :(

I thought it was damn good....

If you're going to set it in the Forgotten Realms, then the city of Calimport (which is both crime-ridden and arabian-esque) seems ideal.

You download a book which details Calimport here. Oddly enough, the book is called "Calimport" :).

DAMN you're right Calimport is one hell of a nice setting! :) outlined enough so that I have a definate reference but certain things were vague enough to leave to my own interpretation...

I also think this would be a good setting a couple of NPCs I am working on.... i might just do this TC and put them all in here... Ox and Rice (a couple NPCs I made up) would be perfect. The Sigilian Xaositect staff fighter and the foul mouthed bardic girl from the northwest were taking a trip to the Orient then back to Baldur's Gate.... I was gonna write them into BGII as stopping by Athlatka before travelling northward but this looks better!

Calimport TC might be worth taking up :) I am gonna register and lobby for a map maker, I'll do character design/area design and have someone do else do the artwork. I already have some voice actors.
if it is ever completed prepare for a very diverse enviroment

You may be interested in checking out the TC under development The Tower of Iron Will. There is a good segment of this game which takes place in Calimport and a fair bit of artwork has already been done.

hmmm my impression of Calimport seems to be a tad different.... Though that was done masterfully I do however see the marketplace to be a tad more "compact"

I wouldnt mind... however.... using some of those tiles
preferably the tents, sand, floors, paths and palm trees

Take a bit more of a look around. Minto has done several other districts, and the screenshots can be found in the threads.

I'm sure he wouldn't take offense. I don't know how often he's around, though, so you might need to wait a bit for your reply.

You might want to check out IETME (Infinity Engine Tileset Map Editor) from TeamBG as one way to make area graphics.

If you have such areas - or even just pics at the right scale and angle to make areas - it would be nice to post them if you are not going to use them. You never know what might suit someone else perfectly.

I dont think I could send 30 megs in some 60 something files on here.... if you want them though they are part of a large file called "all-tiles.zip" which is on the teambg ftp: (which is browser compatible I believe) they are in that zip

EDIT: I could pair them up where I can in zips but I have no way of hosting them so they will be on the forums server
