Hello everyone, I've been a die-hard fan of this game since it first came out and before that I played BG with a zeal that I have only shown a very few things. With that in mind, I would like to develop a mod that is centered around an NPC but I think would also add some really cool content. The only problem is that I have no experience with computer programmming, and basically wouldn't be able to do much of the coding or actual computer development myself. Though I would be willing to give it a try. Right now though all I can offer is this: I would be willing to write all the dialogues, storylines, weapons etc. I'd just need a partner (or two) to help me get the mod running. I know that it is a tall tale, but I thought I'd shop the idea around (to a couple of sites -- this one is first) and see if anyone is interested.

Here is the idea:

The Mod is called "The Revenge of the Iron Throne" and it centers around a non-romanceable NPC by the name of Camilla.

Camilla is female human assassin (since there is a shortage of pure thiefs in the game) with some cool weapons (which I will describe if you are interested) and decent stats (I'm thinking the following: (S16, D18, C14, I10, W8, Ch12). She is Neutral Good (yes this is possible) and is the daughter of one of the many nameless Iron Throne guards that the PC dispatched in the original game (this will become an important plot point later) Wanting revenge on the Iron Throne for what she sees as the betrayal of her father's loyalty, she has been hired to eliminate the last remaning/resurrected members of the Iron Throne who have fled to Athkatla. Who has hired her? Well I have an idea but I don't want to say it right now.

You would meet Camilla in the jail-cells by Firkragg's dungeon since she has been hunting Tazok. Once she joins your group, you will help her hunt down three other members of the organzation (and their cronies). I'm thinking the following: 1. The guy that escapes from you in BG when you leave the tombs of Candlekeep. 2. The female mage that is at the top of Iron Throne tower the second time you go to the top. And finally, in the toughest fight: Angelo. Evenutally the employer would reveal themself and may double-cross Camilla and you (maybe).

Since Camilla knows who you are and what you have done, there would be real chance to, in the banters, play up the idea of trust and also the PC's fame (or infamy). Further , this is also a chance for some real RP as Camilla must come to terms with working with the man that killed her father, the nature of good, her desire to punish those she sees as responsible causing her father's death, and also the whole idea that she will profit from her revenge.

This would all lead to a bit of surprise (which I don't want to give away in case this ever gets developed) and a huge (and the way I would have it organized, very difficult) fight with a bunch of the assassins/bounty hunters that tried to get you in BG (like Nimbul, the amazon clerics etc. and maybe even Greywolf) and eventually a TOB element to the quest would be added on as well.

The mod would require no new areas, only some character and weapon generation. So is there anyone interested in helping me create this character? Or should I just go back to my games and leave things to the experts? Let me know and thanks for your attention.

Nice idea.... good thing she's non romanceable
are you a writer? if not you might wanna read some books on writing and human behavioral studies before starting this. Try your best to make her look real.

a Neutral good thief character.... specially one natorius for "getting their hands dirty". I like that. It says something....

When I learn the editors I am gonna start a mod (based in Calimport, maybe another one similar in Ravenhold) that's story is crime oriented. I will have one of the city's more respected crime bosses be neutral good. His missions are centered around the governments further alienation of the peasant population and the huge slave population. Many of his top men would be slaves "liberated" from their masters.

What do you think?

I like your idea X. Crayon. Especially as a crime boss, your character would try to weigh the balances of what would make it best for all citizens and what would be the best for him individually. With the NG alignment, the character would always seek the lesser of two evils. I think there is a stigma that a thief can not be good, but the whole point is what that person believes that they are doing.

Now, I'm not a writer per se, but since I do teach English and History (I'm not that old but old enough) I think I could write this character effectively. The whole sense of the character is that she believes she is doing good by killing for "good". It would be interesting, to me at least, to explore the idea of an assassin that believes, self-righteously, that she is killing for a just cause. NG believes that the balance should always slightly be favouring good, so she is just there it rectify that alignment -- this, I think, could lead to some interesting banters with Jaheria.

But I think the most important element to play up is the idea of revenge. What was the PC's motivations for stopping Serevok or Irenicus? Was it personal revenge or was it done for the good of the people?

Again, I would really like help with this mod, as I really think it would add a nice way to tie some BG elements into BG2. And, again, I think the surprise at the end of the MOD would make it all worthwhile.

I think you should at least try to become an expert. Nobody will code your characters as lovingly as you would. You will also have a power of changing things around on the fly, without corresponding for days about it, and waiting and asking... Ask for help when you are really stuck with some nasty problem - and you will have your mod in the end.

It is not hard to code dialogues and NPC encounters. All you need to learn/understand is writing TP2, introducing a dialogue (APPEND and CHAIN) and the interrelation between a script and a dialogue via variable. You can always make a quick and easy check on your coding ability by creating Camilla using Ghrey's "How to Create a Simple NPC" tutorial. If you can do that - you can code your mod.

Hi there,

I daresay that there is a bit more to coding your own new npc than weidu dialogs and tp2 - but it will be a good start. Still, there is plenty of folks hanging around here willing to help with coding, and I bet some of them will be willing to help.

I am willing to try to learn the coding myself and try to do a little tech stuff. But I'm a complete newbie and would need lots of help. But I am not completely ruling out me trying to do something.

As far as the scripting and writing the story, in case anyone is interested: The basic story-arc has been planned out (in more detail then listed above). I have a few dialogues written already and I have a list of all the characters that I would need to generate and the places that they would need to go. So in many cases it would be be a matter of me sending dialogue or situations to people and them coding it.

Weapons ideas have been created as well and what each goon or NPC would be carrying.

Basically, to use a movie analogy I would consider myself the writer of the mod but not the director and that's where I need help. I could learn to direct, but my direction would not be as good as someone else's. I see this as a partnership.

I have already has one offer for help (thank you very much and I have sent a reply) but more is always useful. This project might see the light of day just yet and that would make me happy.

I wish you good luck with your project, but I'd again encourage you not to shy away from the coding part - you are loosing out on a lot of fun among other things. :)

Agreed. Plus, it will be easier for you to debug if you know exactly what is supposed to happen.

Coding is a lot of fun.

I have always hated allignment. But for a nice example of how a good rogue can be constructed, Terry Prachett's Night Watch includes a police officer who hides in shadows, moves silently, and is not above picking locks and a bit of breaking and entering as necessary. The basic philosophy behind the character is that sometimes you need to bend the law for the greater good. And honestly, how is any self-respecting beat cop going to catch a theif if they are just strolling down the street with a lantern. The book also includes an assassin who is not entirely evil.

Any help that I can get would be greatly appreciated. I have a few peopel that are willing to help me code, so things are looking up. This mod looks like it will be developed or at least start to be developed at RPGDungeon. SO anyone intersted, feel free to follow over there -- you won't regret it.

Oh and Camilla will be around in TOB -- or at least that's the plan.

Well, I went to RPGDungeon, but I couldn't find any information on The Revenge of the Iron Throne. If you can't get a forum there, I'd gladfully open one on http://www.AFreeHost.org (our website). You KNOW I'm interested in helping in this modification.
