Hi everybody, it's me. I hope everybody's enjoying the new stay here so far. SC, Liam, and everybody at SHS has been so gracious to us, lets try to take some time to thank them for the new haven.

2. The second issue is perhaps a little bit tougher to deal with, but I'd like to get it out in the open right now so there's no doubts. Unfortunately, we've discussed this over and over and I think some people will never accept it, and so we'll always be battling the stigma but I'm giving it another try. There is no "inside" and "outside" group. I really hadn't even heard the term until a few weeks ago when Mirrors messaged me about it. We (and I mean every last person that has ever posted in the thread) are a group of friends. For some reason, people feel alienated and excluded from us. I don't really understand why they feel that way, but it's more than one person, and I would like to squash this right now because we want to promote SHS as a place where anyone and everyone should feel welcome.  The last thing I want to do is scare off new people from participating or joining in because they feel there's an "in crowd"

I'm sure all of us at some point in our lives have felt alienated, left out, singled-out. We know how much that feeling sucks. The last thing I want to do is make someone else feel like that. I know some of you like Kalia, and Shadow', and GF1 (oh how we miss your presence GF) have tried to take time out of their day to make sure and comment on everybody's pictures. That's extra-special coming from Kalia, bless her heart, I feel honored, and grateful she uses the energy she's allotted on us That says a lot. I also understand that people like Floydian, and Spike, and JazzJR aren't very good with words, as are a lot of us.

I think a good example of what can come from just mustering up the courage to open your mouth and participate is Popcorn. He wanted to post, we welcomed him. He had questions and problems with importing faces, we tried to accommodate him. Now he's taking great shots, and joining in on the rest of the discussion like we all love to do.

So the question here is, what can we as a group do to obliterate this notion that there's an "inside" click? Of course there is only so much we can do, 99% of it is just people speaking up and participating. Like my dad always used to say, closed mouthes don't get fed. Regardless, I'm hoping we can come up with some sort of gameplan here to include everybody in the fun. Lets discuss this, and get it out of the way so we can move on with our postings.

Hi everyone! I have been exploring around a bit. Thanks for all the kind words and PMs!

I saw your post here SeV and it prompted me to get registered tonight and connect here with all of you. Been a bit rough of late over at TES having been away and then returning to see the Pics thread in the state it's in. But it is a good reminder that it is not so much the house but the family that lives in it that counts. Plus, this looks like a very very fine house - a beautiful site here!

I took a while to get here mainly because I am so rl busy, and partly because my Oblivion is dead, and partly because I didn't know where to even post, since I have no new screenies. But seeing your post here, SeV, made it easy. In fact, I wrote a kind of "see you later" on the TES Picture thread earlier today and tried to address the insider/outsider syndrome that was being brought up there in a negative manner once again. I have long been aware of the politics of people living/working/playing together and wanting to relate and cooperate, but also the great difficulties this can cause. People have been presuming insiders/outsiders probably as long as there have been more than one being!

It is great you are actively looking to undermine any obvious ways the insider/outsider syndrome can creep into our gathering. But try as we may, if someone really "wants" to feel betrayed and left out, they will find a reason. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard "how no one comments on new poster's shots, but only on the insiders (regulars)". To be honest, I almost never commented on Floydian1's and almost always commented on new people's posts - to not only welcome the new people, but also to undermine this insider/outsider mentality that some people just have to assume. (Plus Floydian1 already knows I love his shots.)

But even today on TES, I felt obliged to address that same criticism about leaving new people out. For some people, e.g., Mirrors, I have repeatedly PM'd him to post screenies and to join the party, and he confessed he felt left out, but he never took me up on any offer to participate. For him to do so would not allow him to feel excluded any longer. So yes, do what we can, but still know people will feel betrayed.

A funny aside about this betrayal/exclusion mechanism in all of us: My daughter, when she was 5 years old, came home from school very sad. My wife at the time and I asked her what was wrong, and she finally confessed that she felt really bad because all of her classmates had TWO homes to go home to - one with mommy and the other with daddy! (California divorce rates are very high.) Here my wife and I are proudly thinking we were giving her a very happy family/home - and she hits us with this! I saw very clearly that this mechanism of betrayal/feeling excluded may have little to do with actual reality!

gf1 (greatfool1's "mini-me"): "Hey wait a minute! I feel left out - I go away for a week, and I get back and most of my friends are gone! They left me Layla!"

Layla (my pc): Good for them! But why didn't they come for me????

J/k... That is my mini-me "dramatizing" the exclusion game. Many of you left me a forwarding address! So thanks for that. Though it did sadden me to leave that thread. And now to see some of the types there currently trashing it - I do feel bad for all the lurkers there. Thanks Spike and Floydian1 for countering some of the BS there today. I am surprised the mods are just letting certain people bash away. I guess I am still connected to it in some way - a whole lot of time spent there. Lots of great fun. But hey, a whole new place here! So thank you hosts and hostesses for this!

But I think what saddens me the most is that I won't be able to participate too much here for a while, as I have said before - too many rl matters to handle. But I still wanted to check in and say hello and I really enjoy seeing your screenies - damn! 5 threads already! And also all the regulars here. Hey wait, we are the outsiders here now! Yay!!!!!! Finally, we can prove we are not insiders! Sorry....

Back to regarding your topic, SeV, mainly I want to say if people take the time to comment, and particularly welcome new posters, the thread will grow and at least this insider/outsider syndrome can be shown to be just a presumption made at an individual level - and not necessarily at a group level. And it really is a presumption - who are the insiders? Who are the outsiders? You describe it well in your post, SeV.

Another reminder, we went from 140 unique posters at Thread #50 to about 420 unique posters by Thread #100 - and I think this is due to both the excellence of everyone's posts and also the relational nature of the threads, via comments, etc.

Btw, where is Cosmic-Banana? I haven't seen anything from him. Also, he did that great avatar wall in case we need to look for other MIAs.

Anyway, forgive my ramblings... I am fried.

Oh yeah, I read all the prior posts here, and I like the idea of separate Pics and Comments threads like we did at Thread #100. I also think it worked well to allow comments about other people's pictures (without quoting the whole img pic) within one's own post on the Picture thread. Otherwise, comments alone would go to the Comments thread.  

Also, how are the dialup users faring with the img tags? I wonder if we should post dialup size links and IMG tags if we do the latter? Many of you know I always post both a broadband link (1 MB screenie) and a dialup link (100K screenie), and about 35% of my hits were to the dialup link. I saw someone say it was slow downloading too many 500K img pics. Just wondering.

My educated guess? Exnem's is 34FF-G. Reason being several things: one, 70% of women wear bras with too small a cup and too large a band, so most tend to underestimate size when judging others. Two, once the cup size goes up, the classification of band size actually decreases because it's worked out based on ratios between the two measurements. So if that same size body had b cups, it would probably be a band classification of 36. Because the bust is bigger, the band classification goes down to a 34 or even a 32, even though the actual circumference of the torso remains the same.

Thank you so much for that thoughtful post, GF1. I couldn't find anything there that I didn't agree with. Your paragraph about people wanting to have something to complain about really struck a chord. I think it's just a sad truth. No matter what you do, and how many hands of friendship you extent, some people will never be satisfied unless they can throw all their toys out of the pram and have someone coo at them and put them back in... only for the same thing to happen a moment later.

Because that's what I feel like the situation's been - like a massive screenshotty two-year-old having a tantrum. All this passive-aggression and pseudo-intellectual posturing just seems absolutely absurd when you look at it from an objective perspective. This is a thread on the internet for posting game pictures. I think some people need to take a step back and think, "well, if this is bothering me so much, why don't I turn my computer off, have a sandwich, buy some shoes, lunch with a friend, and realise there's nothing to be stroppy about."

After the ridiculous circular wankfest I saw on the ESF thread last night, I fully expected to come on this morning to find it locked down with a cool-off message on the end by a moderator. I was very suprised, although pleased, to find that I was wrong. The SHS screenshotters are really trying to get the thread back on track, and I think it shows to anyone with half a brain cell. It's the people that keep coming in and airing their entitlements and complaints that are REALLY dragging the thread off track.

I know all this isn't exactly what we're discussing now, but GF1's post brought it all out of me. Although I love our new home, the circumstances surrounding coming here are getting out of hand. I hope things calm down now and we can all continue enjoying both forums peacefully.

With regards to the new structuring of the forum here, I don't think ratings are a good idea either - with some things it might work, but I think the nature of the screenshot thread isn't suited to a system like that. I think we need to avoid a sense of competition coming in.

Yes, it is always good to step back and do a reality check about all of this - after all is said and done, we are folks posting some pictures, ideas, stories, and/or comments. Whether it is for fun, self-assurance, good-hearted sharing, and/or whatever... really depends on the individual.

Reading letters from my nephew serving in the US Army in Iraq helps me to keep some perspective about our time together here. I personally like it to be fun and all-inclusive and as happy as possible. There is already way too much separativeness and exclusion in the world.

As for Mirrors, her used to post in the screenshot threads back in the early ones but I think he stopped because of the requests. You see, Mirrors character is unique. Everything in his pics are modified for his character alone and he doesn't want anyone else to have anything he creates or has created for him. So when people would ask what mod that was, he would have to respond by saying it's not available.

That's why I don't understand why he acts the way he does now, it makes no sense. Every pic he ever posted was beautiful but again unavailable for anyone but himself. So why would he want the thread more about revolved around mods if he doesn't use available mods? There's got to be something else to it.

Regardless, I'm too old to play these internet games. I don't believe I was ever considered one of the "in crowd" yet here I am...

Hi Die75! And thank you for this too. I did not know about Mirrors in this regard. I do know when I wrote him he was sick with pneumonia, so I did what I could to help him to participate. But he really didn't want to - though at the time it sounded like he would at least stop flaming. A moderator once again deleted his flaming on the TES Pictures thread the other day. On that note, the moderator also mentioned to me that he told Jaga Telesin to take it elsewhere and Jaga agreed.

So far, how does everyone feel about the move? From what I gather, most of you are happy about how things are. But, I'd like to know how you guys feel yourselves. Me? I'm thrilled about how things are going. You guys (and girls), are going really great, its a pleasure to know you all.

You have done an outstanding job in accommodating and welcoming all of us, Kaelis - and also a very big thanks to the rest of the SHS team too!

I really like this Forum and will participate as much as I can. I also think it serves very very well as a home for all of us "Pictures of Oblivion Characters" contributors for a lot of reasons. First it has far less restrictions than TES in terms of everything there having to be "PG13". I have always tried to temper my shots and innuendo on TES, and never really had trouble with any of the moderators - but I also do not like offending people, so I always gave a big warning about what my posts contained - and I still got flamed, particularly in Cheats early on. Oh well, such was life on TES in the Cheats Forum. The Mods Forum was much much much better, though we had our problems there too - however, we all looked out for one another. I think SHS has a very simple and tasteful approach to handling adult material so this is also a big plus, imo.

Another big reason I want to stay here is because it will undermine the presumption of there being "insiders" over in the TES Pictures of Oblivion Characters thread. I plan to take Tegger's guidelines she posted, summarize it, add a few things perhaps, and see what the mods there think. I can post my proposal here too, if others would like. For instance, what about Character Development and Screenshooting Techniques over there? It was always part of the thread's purpose. So I am sure we can work out a simple enough "compromise".

I would hope that some of us from here can continue posting our best stuff also on that thread - like Spike, Floydian1, Luchaire, Soul Slayer, Star, and others still do. Maybe even include a tasteful invite to SHS in our sigs there. A sig that lets others know of this Forum and the Pics thread community here, but not playing it off or against the pics thread there.

I also like this place for another reason - having Hector, Spike, and SeV as moderators is awesome!!! I can't wait to see how Luna, oops I mean Spike, handles a hot situation! Watch out guys, Luna is very unpredictable!

Kalia - Your ideas are always excellent! Well, maybe not the nude thread one, but the others are! What can I say about you - you have done so much to make this thread enjoyable and warm. And I for one, especially appreciate you because I have had no time for long comments these days. I also noticed many others taking the time - Die75, Jackmix69, etc. being a few recent standouts. Much appreciated guys!

@ GF1 - A lot of people (including myself) mass PM'd folks to get them to come over here. I had to have PM'd like 40 people! I can't imagine how many other were PM'd.

But please understand that Layla is very very upset with IG Hector and I don't want to deal with her if she finds out that I am talking with you! She is not only PMS but feels betrayed and excluded! I am having to remind her that this is her own doing and that IG Hector is free to do what he wants - even if he did lead Layla on with promises of dates and a very BIG love. Guys change too - though, imo, it would have been classier if IG had of let Layla know about his harem before she showed up.

She can deal with it - it's just that I don't want to deal with her right now. She understands her own tendency to feel betrayed when things don't go the way she would like - and doesn't really blame IG Hector - but she is still very upset. Btw, she has never liked me for saying things like this to her - but such is life, you know. Sometimes we just have to accept what others say, and if the shoe fits, well, wear it - or not. But Layla is a big girl and will soon see she created yet another circumstance in order to feel excluded/betrayed and separate. We all do this by tendency, don't you know? And once we see we are always tending to do this, we can counter it and even undermine the insiders/outsiders ritual. Layla will get over this - she always does.

Also, she would NEVER want IG to exclude them for her sake - she hates anyone being excluded! Whether she is open to joining IG's harem is really going to be up to IG, his ladies, and Layla too.

Community politics are always uhhh...... interesting! I think the inherent difficulties must have something to do with the sheer fact that we are all born into a condition of relatedness to everything, but our individual egoic nature is to constantly separate out from that condition in order to feel like we exist or are special or whatever. What fun!     

I would hope that some of us from here can continue posting our best stuff also on that thread - like Spike, Floydian1, Luchaire, Soul Slayer, Star, and others still do. Maybe even include a tasteful invite to SHS in our sigs there. A sig that lets others know of this Forum and the Pics thread community here, but not playing it off or against the pics thread there.

I have to admit it's rather hard to continue posting there, I'm still a bit pissed at the community there for having a part in a certain modder leaving, no one really seemed to even care. He was one of the most helpful, and giving peolpe in the Morrowind community, and a good modeller as well. Unfortunately he didn't receive the same courtesy that he extended to others. Even though he felt unwanted, he still left his site up, shows what kind of a person the community scorned.

Sorry I brought that up, he was one of my favorite modellers from the Morrowind community, and the way he was ignored like that just chaps my ass.

Yeah, that must have been difficult for him. Very cool that he still persists though!

@ MystykStar - I have never been called a bounty hunter before, and given this is apparently about a period that was almost half a year ago, how about PMing me with what your issues about this are. I don't think it is necessary to bother everyone else with whatever we need to work out. @ GF1- It seems, gf1 and Layla, that Hector is trying to make up for his huritong Layla in his "tribal" way. He is currently searching for a spot on his body were he can tatoo the word "Layla" on his body. So far, it is lowered to ethier his - Left forearm/wrist or his chest. Does Layla have any preference, gf1?

gf1: OK, I asked Layla, and she said she is surprised that there is even any room left on IG's body for her name, given there must be thousands of women's names all over it by now. She says she also understands that all those markings already there, are his ladies' names in some kind of Dremorian dialect!

Find some item in the direction you want her to look. Open the console then click that item. Up at the time you should see the items name(some dont have names) and a Hex ID.
Type player.look (the items Hex ID here)

To stop looking at it type player.stoplook

I can do this, but besides the opening post with the core Guides by Shadow, Divine Avenger, and others it is also about 150 posts that need to be indexed - so I figure it makes sense to keep it where it is until I organize/index all those additional posts. If you want just the opening post in the tutorials area, that would be no problem. PM me if you want that. I know Divine Avenger, Shadow, and others will have no trouble with my putting it here too.

Just as I suspected, Kalia, when you wrote me today - you all have already figured this out far better than I would have. I read all the preceding posts, though my head is a bit mushy right now, so please forgive any repetition.

I like the 100 shots max for the same reasons already mentioned. More than that will not likely even be looked at, and will get unwieldly. Also, changing it out once/month or so would be great!

I think categories are good, in the long-run for sure. I personally would try to do categories from the beginning because it organizes it for the viewer, and few people will look at 100 shots all in a row. Also, a non-categorized approach will not be so good for the last 50 shots or so. Some peeps like looking at landscape/sunset shots; others character shots, etc.

I think these categories have been mentioned:

Characters
Scenery
Action/Battle
"Epic" - maybe hugely populated battle shots - like Treetop's and Floydian1's?
"Comic" Books

How about these too:

Romance
Comedy/Glitches?

I assume there will also be captions allowed with the shot, along with a list of the main mods. I would also assume in the Character category, the Beauty mods would be listed for sure, but this kind of listing would not be necessary in the Action category, for instance. In Action, the armor and weapon would be listed. In Romance, the size of the ... oh nevermind.

So, using the above categories as an example, that would make 7 categories with approximately 14 screenies/category on average. Of course, not every category would have/need that many, and some would have more.

E.g., I would think Characters should have at least 20-25 screenies. Action also, maybe 20, etc. Anyway, like you said earlier, we can adjust as we go along.

The img approach is best - one click per category.

I think the Flash SlideShow presenter is also a good optional link to provide. Definitely only broadbanders on that one. What is cool about it, is you can add music and just sit back and watch the show. It is free, and easy to use, though it gets buggy when using more than 40 or so shots, in my experience. Highpressure introduced us to it ages ago, and I have made at least 5 shows with it. But definitely only as an optional link - no way for dialup users on that one. (So a warning about this would be good.) You could also have each category made into a slideshow presentation to keep the size down.

Also, once I get the Screenshooter's Guides on this site, we may want to provide a link to that, along with SeV's Character Guide, and an invitation to post on the screenies thread.

Regarding dialup users - Even the 500K size screenies we post are probably a pain for them. My dialups are about 125K and still look ok, imo. Also, I have mentioned this, but about 1/3 of my website hits are on the dialup versions of the screenies. There are more dialup users than I tend to think. Maybe Wrye could also check at UESP to see what their stats report on this. Or perhaps a google search could tell us something.

OK, Kalia, you got me hooked into this! I think it is a really great idea to do and I will now be obsessively thinking about it for a while! Thanks a lot!

Btw, as others have mentioned, please don't overdo it health-wise.  

Edit: Also, what are the rules relative to how scantily the characters can be dressed? I think a warning about even that would be considerate. IG, Layla wants to know if you are not doing it with them, and you are not married - what is your relationship to these ladies? I know Layla is interested only in a full-on intimacy, so why do you have all those babes around - are they just for your visual enjoyment or what? I mean Layla is really wondering how you are NOT doing it with them? Of course, Layla is only 23 and is very very ripe, so she may be jumping the gun here.

Actually, I'm surprised anyone understands it! Myself included!

Basically, we want a place to show off great screenshots. Originally that place was gonna be a page on UESP Wiki, but the limitation there was that we couldn't really host a large number of screenshots there directly, so it'd just be a page of links - less pretty. Also, Wrye thought it'd be a great start for this new place, especially with the generosity of our new hosts. So now the UESP thing will be a link from this page. For an idea of the sort of thing Wrye originally had in mind, take a look at his "Fun Oblivion Videos" at the bottom of that page.

My picture: someone goes to UESP, says "ooh - recommended mods!" and clicks on that page. Scrolling down, they see a link to something like "Cool Oblivion Screenshots" that takes them to some part of spellhold studios. There they have perhaps links to different categories of screenshots - so that it's not a matter of loading all 100 screenies at once. With each screenshot would be a list of applicable mods, perhaps a short comment from the "Cool Screenshots" author(s) (currently me), a caption to the shot perhaps.

What I don't know - would that screenies page be just a thread in a sep forum section? Would it be set up as a wiki? Is there some other form of hosting setup that would suit this purpose better?

Do people like my picture of this? Does someone have a different idea they'd like to see discussed?

How you described it, Kalia, is also how I envisioned it. I assume the single page of categories could be laid out like Wrye's Cool Videos page with a description about each category. Also, maybe consider something that incorporates a grid like below (only a lot prettier), perhaps not right at first, but in the long run. It may be a bit too much to maintain though. Of course if no link appears in that cell of the grid, then it simply isn't available.

Yes, this format would be much simpler. I really like this, particularly once the fonts and colors* are worked out. It looks very inviting and also it is clear what is being presented.

I would tend to put the Slideshow last in each category though - because putting it together can take a bit and may not always be available if someone doesn't do it. Whereas we should always have at least the Broadband pictures. And especially if they are img's around 400K, they won't be too horrible for the dialup users (I hope), if we don't always include separate dialup versions too.

Shocking that even a TES Administrator has "impure thoughts"! Plus they wouldn't buy my argument above and let me post it in Cheats.  

Re scantily clad figures: No problem. I'll just add a warning at the UESP link. Best not to have full nudity on first page that UESP links to, but scantily clad is okay.

Suggestions: (again, these are just my personal suggestions, not requirements in any way, y'all know the subject matter much better than I):

First page should have some screenshots on it if at all possible. I would say 1-5 in-page screenshots per category, then links to more pictures in the same category. Ideally screenshots would be thumbnails (say 300 px wide?) and link to full size images. The reasons are 1) You want first time viewer to have immediate payoff for following the link. The screenshots should quickly and easily show what the page offers and draw the viewer into see the other twenty or so screenshots per category. (Keep in mind different people will prefer different things. So with sample screens, some will go direct to character portraits, others go direct to battle scenes.)

Yes, definitely a great point about having screenies on the very first page. Maybe the category heading, followed by several small, clickable screenies from left to right, along with a link for the rest of them for that category like a <More Characters> button or something. Then the second category, repeat... <More Action/Battles>.... etc.

It is hard to get lighting focused on the forearm! It really is (at least for me!)

Lighting-wise maybe just use the console command:

set gamehour to 12 - or maybe 15 (3pm)

and then have that arm in the sunlight. Or using the cheering animation to raise it up.
