#357209 Early Planescape Desgin Notes and Vision Statement

I found this most interesting and informative:

Seems that the story was complete long before the game actually started development (except for some minor differences). I find it unfortunate that almost none of the interesting gameplay elements suggested were included, and that most of the suggested design elements WERE.

#338634 The most interesting combat you've had in BG2

I'm a big fan of tips and tricks. And though I enjoy tactics and whatnot, playing with the game engine idiosyncracies is much more rewarding in a lot of ways.

So with all due respect to various mods, my most interesting combat:

The guardians in Watchers Keep, last level before Demi. Took my party there right before I went to rescure Imoen, and even after basically running through the other levels, fighting all when necessary, the party was barely past SoA level limit. I was well aware of the guardians reported might, but I was quite certain that I had a few tricks up my sleeves to destroy them.

First, I used Vicky to charm all the undead from the Sphere machine on the same floor (vampires and a lich!). Then I created a pair of Simmies. Got a whole bunch of summons (including two copies of the big shambling mound sphere summon). Haste, mass invisibility, various buffs and potions... and as Vicky started casting Bless, I completed the puzzle and unleashed the guardians. My mob gave a great shout and charged... straight into a blender.

Thought possibly not designed for it, the guardians have done an admirable job of handling a mass offensive. The marilith stood as a shield, the orb as a machine gun, and the succubus started turning my own creations against me. It was bloody chaotic. I actually gasped when Korgan managed to down the orb only to be chunked by the Marilith. (Thankfully, it was just the simmy). The lich died the moment the combat started, and the vamps were wiped by the priestess. Eventually (for the first time in a LONG while) I left the summons to hold off the enemy, and withdrawn outside the keep, with merely half the enemies down (one ressurrected by the damn priestess in a sanctuary), to fight the battle again, another day.

After that, Demi was a breeze... until I downloaded the improved version, natch.

Nothing beats dropping a cow on Anomen. (Not me - some guy on the Black Isle boards)
