#270055 Unique Artifacts

Posted by XCIX on 15 November 2006 - 08:51 PM in Miscellaneous Released Mods

I'd like to present to you my first mod (at last, I've completed it!).

I've always found weird possibility of having multiply copies of Boots of Speed, Ring
of Protection +2, Ring of Wizardry, etc. They are THE Boots of Speed, THE Ring of Protection +2,
and so on. Each of these items has its own history, hasn't it?:). Even in unmodded game copies are met
too often if you ask me, but with many mods installed it completely ruins the main BG's advantage - atmosphere. So, for purposes of roleplaying and realism I created Unique Artefacts. It removes duplicates of artefacts from game. With UA every single unique item can be obtained once and once only.

Please, enjoy:)

Great Idea, thanks so much.  This mod reminds of the amazing deal I got in Shanghai on a one of kind Rolex watch.  Sometimes our adventures give us the most unique artifacts, if we are lucky.... ;)

#257516 Am I hosed?

Posted by XCIX on 15 July 2006 - 05:03 PM in Mega Mod Help

I am installing a BP-BG Trilogy install. From the beginning with NEJ mod I noticed that within the weidu dos window a message about typos. Is this a bad thing or normal? All seems to be installing correctly, but what do I know, I ask rhetorically.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

XCIX

Your fine.

Thanks

#255379 PSQ Suggestions/Problems

No one else wants to be helpful? :(

Speak now of forever be stuck with a slightly buggy mod!
Well, maybe not forever, but you are going to have to wait longer, since I'm not going to release this till I'm satisfied. :D

Here to test when you need it. Thanks again for your work on the original mod. Just upgraded the hard drive and actually have some room to load up the BG games again. I am also willing to aid in testing your expanded PSQ mod when it is complete. Before it is complete, I can write passably well and could help with some dialogs. I am just clueless on coding so I would be less than useful there.

I have a question/request: Is it possible to make an install option that would make the quest available to non-arcane types so a player could have the planar sphere stronghold + their own stronghold? I know that the "all stronghold patch" makes this universally possible but it does not add content justifying the fact that the non-class types get the stronghold and the dialogs are therefore out of alignment with that fact, ie they assume you are, respectively, a cleric, a ranger, a thief, etc.

Does PS have a silly story? Yes.
It PS make any sense at all? No.
Is PS so completely over the top it's absurd? Yes.
Is the whole thing incredibly bizarre? Yep.
Do I love it because of or in spite of these flaws? Because of.

I second this wholeheartedly.  To me the planar sphere mod is like the particular mod-maker who frequently will opine coherently and, arguably, incoherently on these forums: excess of personality.  Excess of personality has its drawbacks for some people's point of view but lack of entertainment value isn't usually one of them. I am glad that it seems to be settled that the main plot will not try to be redeemed from it's "excess of personality".  Joseph Campbell once said that “What each must seek in his life never was on land or sea. It is something out of his own unique potentiality for experience, something that never has been and never could have been experienced by anyone else.”

Also, thanks for the progress report, Duality. I have a question, assuming the main quest is left as is as far as plot and storyline and bug fixes are applied, will that also mean the egregious cheese/cheating devices (scripts?) will be removed as well?  Will this reduce the challenge or is there a way to make the mod still challenging without them?

This is actually one of my favorite mods, despite the over-the-top ]hopefully tongue-in-cheek main storyline because it brought more life to a potentially interesting place/thing in the game.  All of the strongholds were less than they could have been and this at least made one of them more interesting.

There were some major mod killing bugs in the main quest, I hope they have been/will be fixed.  I also have often wondered if the new spells introduced by the mod work as described.  Would making the planar sphere available to non-arcane sorts (ie everyone else) be possible?

Thanks, by the way, for taking up the baton with this mod.  Your work on it will not go to waste, at least in my tiny corner of the computerland.

Thanks again.

#239084 Bioware/Obsidian Rainbow Mods

Umm...not to quibble but homosexuality is not a modern phenomenon; it has been around for centuries. One flatters oneself by thinking that one is a "rebel" for being an activist/proponent for same-sex proclivities. It will be around whether one promotes it or not.   I apologize that this might sound insulting but I find it mildly amusing that there are those who believe that homosexuality is an original idea and that congratulate themselves for being open-minded, "free-spirited", and progressive by embracing/tolerating it because of that belief.  Any cursory survey of history will find men and women using sexual drives outside the bounds of procreation in differing forms of recreation. It's as ancient as the wheel.

Although my own tastes find such subject matter boring and unoriginal, I feel if that if one wants to create or play a mod with such themes that that is one's own business.  This is just a game, simple entertainment, and I enjoy the many mods and admire the creators of them for the hard work and knowledge they employ when they envision, create, and add material to such a fun game and want others to be able to do the same.

That being said, my first hope is that while engaged in the creation of such "rainbow" material that those so engaged will be able to manage the fervor of their proselytizing and their supercilious intolerance for others beliefs and traditions. Not to be patronizing but being respectful and tolerant of others beliefs apply not only to those who don't approve of homosexuality but also to those who do approve/endorse it.

My second hope is similar to the first in that instead of going on a crusade to "overthrow game conservatism" that modders just continue to create fun mods that, to echo Simding0's point, are free from tacky selling points in an attempt at being unique.

I must say I am as clueless as you are on this issue, though I guess that he is neither at the Sword Coast nor Neverwinter, but in the real world.

I appreciate your response.  I suppose I will ask Bill directly.  Thank you.

I must disagree with your guess that Horred the plague is in the "real world" because what mother would name their kid "Horred the plague"?

Yes, that much I knew already.  It looks like he is in Neverwinter.  It's a fine place I hear.  I guess I was hoping to know if/when he was ever going to travel south back to the more southern areas of the Sword Coast?  I suppose I could ask him directly but I figured one of you infinity engine aficionados might know and that other "clueless" like me might want to know, hence my post.

PS Sorry for my bad english but I am an american.

Where is Horred the plague, scourge of the seven seas? Will he ever return?
