#491062 BiG World Setup Beta-Testing

Can the Tutu mod called TutuGui (uses the nice stone GUI from BG1) be installed safely after a BWS tactical install?

#475675 Comments on the aTweaks releases

Hmm, good thing I saw that before I attempted another BWP install. Should I try to remove aTweaks from the install.bat and then install it last, or just pick a number of mods I want and then install them by hand and forget about BWP?

Okay, I need to learn how to edit the install.bat file. By default it leaves out many things I would like to include in my game. For one thing, BG2 tweaks is missing lots of options. I also notice that it doesn't install all the 1pp mods that I really like. I read over the link you provided earlier about how to edit the component settings, but it isn't making a whole lot of sense to me right now. I also read some of the Big World Setup pdf and it's hard for me to focus on what I'm looking for as it doesn't look like there's a beginning or end to the component list, it's like a big wall of words. I'm sure the mod names are in there to keep things organized but I must be missing it. I'm essentially stuck in a catch 22 right now because I want to install by hand but the automatic install.bat features are pretty handy.

There was a thread at this forum I read earlier in the year and now I can't find it, but it had a short list of mods that enhanced BG2 and TOB. The mods improved gameplay, tweaked kits, added fixes and other tweaks, ramped up difficulty and even added a little more content. It didn't make the difficulty insane, but it certainly was a challenge.

Can someone help me with a short list of mods that do the same thing as above that I can install in BG2 and TOB that will all work with each other? Thanks very much. I've never accomplished beating this game with mods, and it's something I'd like to do before too many years pass.

Yeah, I've been able to view the contents of it, just didn't know how to change the component choices. The good news is that I think I've got the hang of it now. Editing as we speak.

Okay, I just did it and gave it a test run. I notice that Irenicus still uses old casting effects even though I put BG2 tweaks unpacked in my directory, which contains the IWD casting effects. Could it be that none of the tweakpack got installed? Also, when the short install is over is it safe to use Dungeon Be Gone? Thanks.

I see. So, to get those new Fiend components I need to wait on a new BWP? Might as well just use the previous version of aTweaks in this case.

Thank you very much. The bizarre part is, I don't remember running a cleanup file or anything.

Yeah, that's true. Do you happen to have them? Or do I need to ask aVENGER? Thanks.

Are you serious? That would be great. I just started the unpacking process of BWP, but I'll cancel it and do it your suggested way if that's more bullet-proof. Thanks.

Well, I thought I was pretty clever when I caught on to editing bat files. I looked up each component number in the PDF and then edited, added, or removed just a few different components. Maybe 6 changes I made. I got home this evening and started a new install with the edited batch file, and lo-and-behold I have a bunch of errors. They seem to be related to things I didn't really mess with, which is puzzling. I usually expect to be the cause of most errors :)

Anyway, I only added Divine Remix and Unfinished Business to the small amount of mods in my directory. The errors found seem to be in Divine Remix and Rogue Rebalancing. I'm going to attach my weidu.log and big world debug log, and then I'm going to bed. I'm too tired to fiddle with this any more today. I love these games dearly but I'm getting frustrated. Thanks again.

#475988 The fewest mods - the best experience?

Thanks Lollorian. One question, if I drop my wanted mods in there (and the install/fixpack) then run the batch file, will it automatically install all compatible component options? For example, if I put Tactics in there, would it automatically install the Improved Ilyich component or would it ask me? I don't want that particular component, but anything else is all right. I might just leave Tactics/Ascension out, though. Thanks again.

Something else, would I be running into trouble if I wanted to add Ascension, Item Upgrades and Tactics? Would that scenario be a case where I could use the BWP installer and just trim the install down to those selected mods plus what I already planned on using?

I'm still a little unclear on what order I need if two RR components conflict with the BG2 Tweakpack. Barring using the BWP installer for a greatly reduced amount of mods, could I just install RR in its entirety AFTER BG2 Tweakpack? Thanks.

Anyone else have a recommendation on class choice for a complete (BG1 through TOB) playthrough with BWP-Tactical? Thanks.

Thanks. I'm about to start a tactics playthrough. I need something durable/powerful for a character. Which is better suited to higher difficulty, a monk or a cleric? Thanks.

Okay, back with a new set of questions. The person I was going to play multiplayer with has been sick for a while, but I still really want to play. One question is, is the Tactical install of BWP prone to crashing and errors since there's just so much installed and active, or have most of the bugs been worked out?

If they've been mostly worked out, I'm going to run a separate Tactical install for my single player game. If there's still a good chance of crashing and errors, I'm going to pick some mods from a few categories and install them by hand. In the interest of getting some recommendations that usually are compatible with each other, I'm looking for the most-liked mods from the following categories:

1) Bug fixes and hotfixes
2) New quests and other content (monsters, weapons, items, etc.)
3) Class balance, kit changes, new kits, other balances (like rogue rebalance, sword and fist, etc.)
4) Challenge, harder fights, tweaked difficulty, better AI, etc.
5) NPC mods (don't want to use too many), banter, interaction, etc.

I've been doing some pretty extensive searches across numerous forums that usually have a good list of mods that meet my criteria, but they're a few years old and I want to get up to date information. Thanks for any input as to if BWP has stabilised as far as crashing and errors, or if I should still go for a manual install of fewer mods.

Ah, you edited your old post, I didn't see that until now. So, you're saying to take Berserker from BG1 onward and not to multi-class?

Would I have to install RR minus those two options, then install atweaks, BG2 tweakpack, then run RR setup another time and install those two previous options? I think that might work.

Thank you Jarno. Is it a good idea to use the beta fixpack? And is there a current ETA on the next version of BWP? I just don't want to do the setup this evening and have a new version pop out in a few weeks then have to re-do it :)

The only thing I'd worry about at this point is having my game crash from all the lines of spoken NPC audio, does this happen even if you have a good computer? Thanks again, and your replies are just fine, I was busy for a few days anyway. :)

#475855 The fewest mods - the best experience?

Posted by Vampire Killer on 18 January 2010 - 03:13 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

Okay, here's my hypothetical load order.

bg2 + tob
tob patch
bg2 fixpack
?
?
?
1pp (graphical stuff)
atweaks
scsII
bg2 tweak pack
widescreen

But where the three '?' are, I was going to put in Divine Remix, Sword and Fist and Rogue Rebalance. Would they work if installed in that order? And is there anything glaringly wrong with this install order overall? Thanks.

Hey, I just saw these responses. I know very little about multiclassing/experience rules, so I'm kind of lost there. Last night before I went to sleep I saw somebody recommend that if you're going to play BG1 and BG2 with mods you should play them separately and not in something like BGT. Reading this confused me, so I'm trying to make my mind up about how to play. If I use BWP I don't want to mess with what gets installed or what options are chosen, because it's a long re-install if I mess it up. So, even if it's "un-balanced", I will probably stick with an unedited BWP install. At the moment I am really leaning toward just hand-picking some mods and using only a few that I choose. There's just so many of them. I'll post back later after lunch to see if there's any input. Thanks.

#490820 BGT Tactical Game

Posted by Vampire Killer on 25 June 2010 - 01:35 PM in Baldur's Gate Series

Well, I ended up re-installing, which I didn't need to do. But I'm up and running again. Are plain sorcerors as powerful in a BWP Tactical game as they are in the vanilla game? And do the mage spells get mostly improved or weakened by the overhaul mods? Thanks.

#490416 BGT Tactical Game

Posted by Vampire Killer on 21 June 2010 - 07:24 AM in Baldur's Gate Series

I have a BWS/BGT Tactical game in the works right now, I had to put it off for a week or so. I am wondering just how difficult a Tactical install is. I've heard that it's "stupid hard", but can anyone tell me more?

This being the case, can anyone recommend a character that's powerful enough starting in BG1 for a complete run through the sequel and TOB also? I was thinking of using a shapeshifter, but the fact that you cannot talk when shapeshifted is puzzling me. For example, if I was shifted into a werewolf and was busy slaying monsters when suddenly someone tries to talk to me, would I have to switch back to human before talking and then have to rest? By rest, I mean rest to recharge my shifting ability. Overall, how awkward to use is the shapeshifter?

I prefer melee characters and other finesse melee builds, but if anything else stands out I'm interested in hearing about it. Thank you.

I'm running out of questions, which is good. But I have a couple more. Do you need to be evil to romance Viconia? I just rolled up a lawful good half-orc barbarian. I'm actually pretty satisfied with it, but since BWS Tactical is so hard I am unsure whether I want to dual wield for more damage and less protection or use a hammer and a shield for more protection and less damage output. Last question, since I have the "chores" mod that gives you special abilities when you finish it, should I take alchemy or tracking? And offensive spin or defensive spin? Thanks again for your help!

This might be a stupid question, but if I install Dungeon Be Gone after everything else just as a last resort, does it completely overwrite any changes that Tactics put in Chateau Irenicus? Because I fought Ilyich expecting to get slapped around and I chunked him. Doesn't seem right.
