I like these. :)

#139975 Yikari's "helmet"

Posted by BobTokyo on 06 August 2004 - 03:10 PM in Yikari

So he won't let anyone look under his robe?

#139989 Yikari's "helmet"

Yes. Jumping away or dodging would have more comedy value than a wrist lock, but that may just be personal taste. ;)

#126449 Yeslick from BGI as a romanceable NPC

Posted by BobTokyo on 25 June 2004 - 07:27 AM in IE Mod Ideas

I must confess that I am greatly influenced by Tancred's writing of Yeslick in BG1NPC project and he is a very lovable character, with fantastic dialogue but... erm... a grandfatherly figure.  I like the interpretation al lot, though because it sets him aside from the younger gang and makes him unique. :)

Maybe it's because my mother re-married at 57 and my grandmother re-married at 74, but I can imagine a younger Dwarf misinterpretting Yeslick's kindness for something more, and Yeslick feeling flattered. Yeslick is too wise and too experienced to let things progress that far with a Dwarf young enough to be his grand-child, but he would be as gentle as he could, and he'd never withdraw his support unless forced. I think it could give the romance a bitter-sweet feel.

Yeslick might be open to a relationship with a Dwarf close to his own age.

Edit: I could see this as a sort of undergrad with a crush on a sweet professor thing, or young soldier with a crush on a kind and effective officer.

#126461 Yeslick from BGI as a romanceable NPC

Posted by BobTokyo on 25 June 2004 - 07:45 AM in IE Mod Ideas

I also think it shouldn't necessarily be a romance leading to marriage and love forever, but just like written above, and it could also end nicely, without anyone getting hurt :) . Though it is not unheard of that an elderly man has fallen for a younger woman, and it would be interesting to make the conversations so, that there would be only one right way to win Yeslick's heart. And I couldn't somehow imagine any "sleep wiht me" love scenes for Yeslick :P - that somehow wouldn't fit his character (neither to a dwarf woman's character though).

I haven't read anything more about Yeslick than played BGI for several times with him on the party, so I just make my opinions from that :) .

My sister-in-law's father married one of his grad students recently. She's younger than my sister-in-law. Very strained situation. Again, I think high wisdom would prevent Yeslick from taking this path. ;)

You might want to try the BG1 NPC Project; I loved that take on Yeslick, and on the rest of the BG1 NPCs as well.

#131474 Writing Hubelpot

Posted by BobTokyo on 12 July 2004 - 11:47 AM in Hubelpot

If you'd like to add a Hubelpot banter or interjection, we could use it. :)

The rules for writing Hubelpot are an extension of some items discussed in the Overused Ideas thread:

1) Hubelpot does not win every argument.

2) He is not particularly witty compared to high INT / high CHA characters.

3) He should try to be supportive and caring when he can, and can get angry, but he is Neutral. The great battle between Good and Evil doesn't mean much compared to getting the crops in on time or the propper care of Tomatos.

4) He is a Druid, but he is a follower of Chauntea (goddess of fertility and farming). He is a farmer, a gardener, and a working class merchant, not an eco-terrorist or new age shaman.

5) He's a faithful husband and the 37 year old father of a well adjusted, not very bright, fully employed son. He tries not to forget that.

6) He sees adventure as the result of poor financial planning decisions.

7) It's a humor mod, but Hubelpot himself does not break the fourth wall. He takes his world seriously, even when things become absurd.

8) Cooking, gardening, food and farming are all fascinating to Hubelpot. Angst is not.

9) Hubelpot is much less important than CHARNAME. To most noble NPCs, he's less important than Boo. Master villains do not take time to rant against a veggie merchant.

10) "Tha Balance" means very little to Hubelpot. He's a Druid in the sense of being a wiseman, herbalist, healer, and lore-keeper. He cares about crop yields, healthy children, peasant farmers, and townsfolk. The Cosmic Balance can take care of itself.

If you have a banter or interjection you'd like to add, please put it in the Banters thread. :)

Edwin: Dog! What are you grinning at you foul smelling beast!

Dog: Woof! Woofgrrwoof!

Edwin: <CHARNAME>! Control this annoying mongrel!

Dog: Woofoofoofoof! {jumps up on Edwin} Lick lick lick!

Edwin: Augh! I am covered in slobber! Yeargh! Make it stop! (How revolting!)

Dog: Bark bark bark! {wags tail}

Edwin: Phyaugh! The smell is unbearable! I must bathe! Bad dog! Feh! (That my vast personal charm should lead to this!)

Dog: Woof! {wags tail}

Snowball Storm and Fire Ball. Area of effect damage is you friend.

#141275 Wizard/sorcerer magic

Posted by BobTokyo on 11 August 2004 - 01:24 AM in Icewind Dale Series

I'll give a few for each level; the rest you may figure out yourself.

-Color Spray, Magic Missile, Shocking Grasp
-Protection from Arrows (nice early on, but eventually wears off it's usefulness), Mirror Image, Blur
-Improved Invisibility (enemies don't see you even if you attack, unlike BG1/2 where they partially see you), Stoneskin, Mordenkainen's Force Missiles (it's bad early on, but at level 17 it's one of the best spells you can ever use)
-Lutzaen's Frequest Jaunt (a must have teleport-anytime spell), Sunfire, Cone of Cold, Lower Resistance, Domination, Hold Monster
-Globe of Invulnerability, Chain Lightning, Soul Eater, Circle of Death
-Finger of Death, Seven Eyes (a must-have), Elemental Barrier, Summon Djinni/Efreeti
-Horrid Wilting, Flaying, Iron Body (it's useful in only given circumstances), Symbol Stun, Fiery Cloud
-Power Word: Kill, Wail of the Banshee, Aegis, Black Blade of Disaster, Mass Domination

This is only a brief glance

-Galactygon

No Timestop ?

There is no Time Stop in IWD2.

#131479 WILL HUBELPOT SELL MANG0S?

Posted by BobTokyo on 12 July 2004 - 11:54 AM in Hubelpot

At the moment, he has no shop. If at some point his shop is restored to him, appropriate .bams become available, and he decides to branch out into fruits, then yes, he will sell mangos.

#132178 WILL HUBELPOT SELL MANG0S?

Posted by BobTokyo on 14 July 2004 - 04:17 PM in Hubelpot

Man I've got a truck load of mangos.... if I could only un-load them. :(

I've got fresh mango, mango chuney, mango bams, mango id's, and mango margaritas. And some Bob marley playing on the stereo. Come on who wants some?

I understand that mangos spoil if not eaten quickly.

#132183 WILL HUBELPOT SELL MANG0S?

Well then we'll have to keep safely stored in alcohol :D

I'm sure that Conrad could find ome use for exploding mangos in his Vegetable Farmer kit. Why not share? :)

Looks like I'll have to drive this hunk of junk over to ses, 'cause you have no truck docks (file up load) :(

Hmm. I'll ask about that.

#132941 Why So Few Lawful Monk Mods?

Posted by BobTokyo on 17 July 2004 - 04:47 AM in IE Mod Ideas

I was thinking that this might be an interesting question. I've seen a few Monk mods floating around over the years, and I've noticed that non-lawful monks appear to be the rule rather than the exception. So, in your opinion, why do modders tend to go for non-lawful monks?

#133634 Why So Few Lawful Monk Mods?

Posted by BobTokyo on 19 July 2004 - 07:16 AM in IE Mod Ideas

Ninjas are cool. And by cool, I mean totally sweet. If they read this thread, they would go out & kill everybody in your town. I read it!

I saw this Ninja once, and he like totally flipped out and killed this guy!

#127694 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by BobTokyo on 29 June 2004 - 10:06 AM in Imoen Relationship

Another reason might be that after a few months on the road, she realizes that being a thief in the real world is quite different from picking a couple of pockets in Candlekeep, and that it's not really something she wants to spend the rest of her life doing.

I got the feeling that she became a thief because she was already doing a lot of hiding and poking through other people's belongings just for fun, and when she left with the main character, that was something she could keep doing to make herself useful. She probably wouldn't be interested in the more violent aspects of being a thief, like killing people and stealing things that are actually valuable from someone who's innocent, so after becoming reasonably good at finding traps and opening locks, I don't think she would be interested in learning more about the thief's trade.

Agreed completely here.

This clashes with her ToB epilogue, of course...

Maybe, but it also better matches her in-game character. She's Neutral Good; she might become a Robin Hood type, stealing from the evil and giving to herself (or the poor), but you can't run a Thieves' Guild that way. There just aren't enough "evil" folks out there to rob, and an Intelligent, Good character is not going to be able to keep lying to herself about how much harm her guild is doing forever.

#128161 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by BobTokyo on 30 June 2004 - 12:26 PM in Imoen Relationship

She was educated in Candlekeep, surrounded by mages and priests, even if she didn't originally take that path. She was always interested in magic

What might be worth considering is not why Imoen suddenly changed, but why she never took up magic in the past. Stories about magic and wizards would spark something, maybe, but is it possible that all she saw of actual practical magic in Candlekeep was dusty tomes and old, stuffy wizards and sages (Gorion, Tethtoril, Obe) and so it never interested her until she saw other wizards at work, in an adventuring context, before her eyes?

Nice take on it. Also, it could have been a case of bright-kid teenage rebellion. Maybe she felt pressured to become a Mage os Sage, and rebelled by refusing to study magic seriously. Later, in the real world, she might have finally taken up those studies.

#129571 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by BobTokyo on 06 July 2004 - 09:57 AM in Imoen Relationship

And yet in ToB we learn that your mother was in fact a priestess of Bhaal who intended to sacrifice you. That ret-con means that not only did Gorion hide the truth from you all of his life, but lied (or at best offered a half truth) even when he knew he was facing his death.

The real reason for this is that plot changes were made between BG and ToB, but in-game it looks like Gorion was a completely unreliable source (unless the Solar and the Wraith are lying).

Is there any reason at all to aguire the ToB? Because the more I learn about it the more it seems it is just a way to get more money to Bioware  , without giving anything in return (but frustration and anger).

It depends on what you're looking for. The additions it makes to SOA are welcome, especially Watcher's Keep and the Wild Mage. Taken by themselves, many of the individual dialogs are quite good, and some of the fights are fun if you're into tactical combat. Some nice mods won't work without ToB installed.

Personally I dislike most of the story elements in ToB, especially the new major villain and the huge chunks that make almost no sense, but I do like the technical side of it.

The PC, Imoen and Jaheira are all 20. Imoen is younger than the PC, but not in years.

Is there a textual reason that you perceive Jaheira as being only 20?

#129557 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by BobTokyo on 06 July 2004 - 08:33 AM in Imoen Relationship

But did he mean actual 20, or the half-elven equivalent of 20 (around 35 or so)? Given all that's she's gotten up to in the past, and the fact a half-elf of 20 wouldn't even be a teenager in human terms, I'd say the latter is far more likely.

35 or so while physically and emotionally around 20 seems more likely, as per standard aging for a half-elf.

Or perhaps David was just being facetious while trying to drown out complaints about Jaheira's relationship with CHARNAME.

Well, I suppose that "thieves' guild" could be just as vague a term as "thief" is in the AD&D sense, and then it could be an organization that's fighting evil and trying to ease the suffering of the poor just as easily as a band of robbers and murderers. The only thing needed to qualify it as a thieves' guild would be that the members are thieves...

Whenever I see RPG robin-hood themed thieves outside of a revolutionary context, I'm always reminded of Monty Python's Dennis Moore sketch. :)

#129560 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by BobTokyo on 06 July 2004 - 08:48 AM in Imoen Relationship

Jaheira can't be 20 since, in BG1, she is mentioned as an old friend of Gorion.

True, but on the other hand it is firmly established in BG and SOA that Gorion was hiding information from you throughout your life, and in ToB it was established that his final letter to you was a lie, so he's not a reliable source of information.

(I'd just as soon trash or retcon the whole ToB re-write of Gorion's history, but the pathalogical liar approach is as valid as any other).

#127683 Why is Imoen a mage?

Posted by BobTokyo on 29 June 2004 - 09:26 AM in Imoen Relationship

She was educated in Candlekeep, surrounded by mages and priests, even if she didn't originally take that path. She was always interested in magic (when you meet her outside Candlekeep in BG1 she has "liberated" a wand of Magic Missiles). In most BG1 parties her travelling companions will include at least one Mage (Dyna, Xar, Zan, Edwin, Quayle). I see her studying books she's slipped from their packs late at night, or scrolls looted from the bodies of your many magic using foes. She's smart, she has the educational background, she has the opportunity to study, and magic is both exciting and useful. So, I'd say #s 1 & 2.

Besides, the father in her life was Winthrop, at least from her BG1 bio.
