when i enter the temple ruins it becomes laggy to the point where its unplayable. it starts off fine, one of mazzys party dies as usual and saerileth comments on how there is some great evil about but then it becomes worse. every 2 or 3 rounds (or so) there is one big lag, picture freezes, music in a loop and they seem to get longer as well with every subsequent time it happens.
since the map loaded entirely i guess its neither the map nor one of the creatures and the delayed start might indicate that its some erroneous script trying to run

either way...i have no idea how to fix it

on a completely unrelated note

isnt it a bit too much giving every single high level mage about 20 or so contingencies...including spell immunity: divination
which makes it basically impossible to harm them at all as long as that is running (and while they have enough invisibility and protection from magic weapon spells)

i tried a different approach, created a new bg2 character and teleported him directly to ar1404 and everything runs smoothly. so i guess it must be some global variable or one of my companions scripts...
now, has their any such kind of trouble been reported before?
i guess you would be in need of a savegame to check whats wrong here...
then again...you would need to have a similar install...so i dunno if that would be really any help...
though it should work with shadowkeeper

either way, in this one i teleported myself into 1401 and hacked my way through the temple to check if it would cease to be a problem if i were to beat the shadelord and the level would return to "normal"...
it didnt.

other than that i have a correction to make. the freeze happens the first time after about 10 or 15 seconds, and lasts for about the same time, the second one after 5 seconds and lasts half a minute, the third one even faster and lasts longer. at about this point it completely freezes...or i might just have lost my patience...

0. Always patch the game(s) with the latest patch, start a new game and exit after the game has auto-saves itself(so you have to make a char or choose a pre-made one), before you do any moding, and you might as well make a safe backup from the important files: data and override folders, baldur.exe, BGMain.exe, dialog.tlk and CHITIN.key .
1. Put the ambient sounds off from the BGConfic.exe, as some of the areas might have no ambient sounds and so the game tries to start them many time continuously, and so looses processing power.
2. Don't mess with the game configurations so the speed adjustment percentages stay on "normal" ratings even if you have very high end machine, as the game has own it's internal fps counter, it sometimes tries to correct the fps on it's own by lowering graphs etc. Also the games frame rate should be set to about 30, as that's the default.
3. I wouldn't recommend to install any of the speaking item mods, as they run their scripts and fire their comments everywhere, and that's bad for the fps(frames/second count).
4. Delete the old files from the Cache folder time to time.
5. Inventory management(no stacks that have more than about 200 items, in a bag, arrows etc.), -might help.
6. Trying to avoid too many effects on a character(about 20 is fine, 200 is too many, and 20 000 is way way too many...)
7. De-fragmenting your hard drive might also help... as you don't have to go find the data in the pieces. (hmm, there is a joke in there, hih)
8. Install the mods in correct order, and make sure you started from a clean install, so there is no leftovers from old mods, by deleting the old mod files, the data and override folders(don't go and overwrite them), helpful links for for Tutu and BGT(the .pdf files) -based Megamods.
9. It might be a good idea to biff your override folder, but do that knowing that you generally can't change the game much after. Or use the End_biff from here.

You might have followed most of those, but still not all.
So, the thing I would do first is; copy the whole game directory to another folder(this will take a lot of space, temperately), adjust the baldur.ini(all changes in the new folder) so the [Alias] 'es direct to the new folder, uninstall the Level 1 NPCs and the Widescreen mod , and then run the BGConfic.exe, to make sure you did disable the Ambient sounds... then Install Level 1 NPCs back and after install the End_biff. Then install the Widescreen mod. And after that's done, you should be able to play without much of the lag. And if that doesn't work, you can throw that whole directory to the trash can and search the source of your problem somewhere else.

uninstalled lvl1 npc and widescreen and deactivated background sound (without reinstalling either of the mods)

then i ran bg...

problem is left unchanged. to my knowledge end biff was already part of the big picture installation

stacks are 50, bottomless bag is capped at 100 (at least it says so)

the thing is, its not exactly a ctd...
but it leaves me no choice but to leave per either alt / f4 or ctrl alt delete since i cant move the mouse during the freeze...

Well, you have to download the End_biff for the Big World Installer to install it.
And it does show in the WeiDU.log as:

~SETUP-END_BIFF.TP2~ #0 #1 // Override Biffing -> This method biffs all files in the override folder and it's not possible to uninstall it.

i meant to say that near the end of my bp installation i was asked about wether i wanted to biff the files and given 3 options...i chose the one which takes the most space, thus enabling you to still alter your install post biffing.

but i noticed it too, it doesnt appear in the weidu...which is strange...

i might have gotten the impression of it already being installed been due to my constant de/re-installing in the time of troubles - when i couldnt get the modifications to run at all. well, i shall try that now, but i doubt it will work, since while it tends to lag outside of the temple ruins as well, it never does so to the extent of a quasi ctd

That could be the problem and you can run into more problems with this procedure.

If you have problems during the BWP installation process it is not good to de-/reinstall anything. With that you destroy your whole installation or can get troubles which in the right way not occur. So we recommended to do a Clean Install to start over with a messed installation.

The best is to do a new installation and if you get problems, ask here for help.

i simply omitted it, and due to ctrl y i still got to solve the quest

and during the time i constantly (re)installed it, those were all clean installs...
i dont really like deinstallation procedures with megamods...it feels as if deinstalling a single compopnent takes almost as long as a complete reinstall...

Probably too many scripts running.

Try defragmenting your computer. That gets rid of a lot of slowdowns for me at least in the save games but sometimes my slowdowns come in places that are different than other players. So I don't think it is messy installation. Try some things out before reinstalling a whole megamod as you might surprise yourself and then we learn something ;)
