It was still made with the xbox in mind and they had to make some comprimises to the PC version becasue of that. Doing an extensive conversion would have been uneconomical.

Morrowind was NOT developed for the xbox. Bethesda was primarily a PC game development company. Morrowind in fact was written for PC's and later the program(Morrowind) code(written in C++) was ported to the xbox game console. In fact the game was trimmed down in the xbox version for example notice that in the xbox version in bloodmoon the east empire mining community never gets completely built as it does in the PC version. Elderscrolls IV Oblivion was designed with the xbox360 in mind however I bet that the PC version will offer more flexibility for adding modifications and manipulation objects.

Well, from what I have seen personally, the PC version of morrowind had significant compromises/features (highly simplistic controls compaired to daggerfall and similar crpgs, a huge font in the journal, small memory footprint, ect) that really make it look like it was built with the xbox in mind.

That, or a computer that just barely meets the minimum specs.

Which is what most (even the top end) computers were at the time of release.
Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died
And the general sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side.

Morrowind was released in 2002, right? At that time, I had a PC with a 1.7 GHz processor, GeForce2, and 512 MB of RAMBUS memory. That far surpasses the minimum specs of Morrowind. And that wasn't even an ultra top-end PC!
