For the first time since owning Baldur's Gate 2, I have finally started messing around with the CLUAConsole for something other than troubleshooting and cosmetic changes to things in the game.

One thing that has been tons of fun was using the Ctrl+Q command to join non-playable NPCs to my cause.

I first tried it out on the gang hanging out in the Five Flagoons inn and some of the crew in Scion's house in the Temple District (Koshi's not really a kensai, - didn't know that :) )

But I found an NPC that's so much fun that I had to write him into the Valen Expansion.

That honor goes to...

... Booter the Shadow Thief torture gnome!

I always loved that little guy with his exagerated Scottish accent and rediculous "aaaaarrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh!" every time he gets hurt. I've even saved games before fighting him just to enjoy him again and again. ;)

Thanks to the magic of Ctrl+Q, he is now part of the gang.

The story, and banter are practically writing themselves. :thumb:

One of the most interesting features of this mod, for me personally, besides on *finally* getting some banters for Valen for in-game NPCs (Weimer's one drawback ;_;), is your decision to include Booter, the torturer gnome from the Shadow Thieves Guild as an NPC. Just a refreshing change of an individual to take along.

Since no one else has asked, I suppose I'll lay out my own array of questions:

-can you give us any insight on how he fits into the story?
-stats/class?
-items?
-quests?
-is he temporary (a la Yoshimo), or permanent?
-does he have banters with other NPCs?
-does he have dialogue at the Tree of Life, Hell, and will he have a Volo description and a ToB ending?

Can you give us any insight on how he fits into the story?

I envision him to be a less serious character to play off of Valen's very serious content and give us some more insight into her personality. Not exactly "comic relief" but more of a dialog hook.

Stats/class?

Str 18/20
Dex 16
Con 17
Int 13
Wis 15
Cha 14

The stats are the same as the game gives him since they are realistic (although rather low-powered to take on the party alone).
The game makes him a fighter- I may change that.

Items?

I haven't decided yet, but nothing too special

Is he temporary (a la Yoshimo), or permanent?

Permanant.

Does he have banters with other NPCs?
Does he have dialogue at the Tree of Life, Hell, and will he have a Volo description and a ToB ending?

Yes to all.

will having him in the group cause conflicts with Fade mod as he already has interjection with Fade but is not a joinable npc.

Not necessarily. If his dialogue is added to rather than overwritten the Fade content would probably still work.

Not necessarily. If his dialogue is added to rather than overwritten the Fade content would probably still work.

Nothing installed from the Valen Expansion should break the game, even if overlapping dialogs from other mods are present, although dialog and plot conflicts may result.

I'll take a look at the Fade NPC mod content regarding Booter and see if there is a problem. I may have to contact the author of Fade to work out any plot/dialog issues, if a conflict is not easily reconcilable.

I LOVE the idea of Booter to the game. I've Cntl-y'd him to my party a couple of times, too, because I like his voice. I wonder, tho, will adding him make the Valen project take longer to complete or will she be released and then Booter added in an updated version?
As much as I like him and your idea of working with him, I, for one, would hate to wait longer for Valen.

I understand your concern but I think the inclusion of Booter has been more of a help than a hinderance.

The Booter material was never meant to be very long or involved, just something to bounce Valen dialog off, so I don't think it added significantly to the writing time (the coding could be another matter).

Booter was more of an inspired bit of fun on my part to keep my interest up, than a "feature" of the Valen Expansion, per se.

Ahh..okay, if Booter is a help ranther than a hinderance...write away! I am looking forward to him. As for class, I assume he'll be a fighter. But, like you said, Thorium, that may change. I think that there are enough thieves in BGII so no need for that class. 'Course it would be nice if he were, say, a trollkiller and immune to level drain. (Okay, just dreaming!)
