So, Im making my way through this mod collection once again and am running into a few issues. One is at the Xvarts camp. Really enjoyed the improved battle, but on 4 different occasions members of my party were charmed by the Xvart shamans (protectors). Problem is, when my party members were charmed, instead of attacking other party members, they just stood around looking stupid. They did turn red, but just didnt act. Has anyone else seen this? Any idea why this is occuring? My install seems to be solid (install process seemed flawless), but I have several confirmed compatible mods. Just want to see if I could confirm this issue with others.

Is it charm, dire charm, or dominate? I'm not sure if a charmed character will fight others. Dominate and Dire Charm will cause this. Also, do you have any scripts assigned to these characters? If not, that may be why they don't do anything. No script is telling them to fight "enemies" (you).

OK. Currently in my party is Imoen, Minsc, Kalid, Jaheria and Bradwin. All have the custom (Default) script associated (assuming this is a BP creation). Except for my main character and Bradwin. I am going to look at the specific spell cast, but to your comment, every time I cast Charm Person on another, I am able to control them. So, why would the effects be different for an enemy?

BTW, anyone know how I can assertain the area code for the area I am currently in?

Ok, scratch that last question, found it. Now Im looking a the area script and I have found the CreateCreature call for the xvart priests. The call look like:

CreateCreature("XVARTPRE",[2585.1662],12) // Xvart Priest

However, I cannot find the cre file for XVARTPRE in NI. Anyone know why? Help would be appriciated.

OK, scratch that question. I found it in the override folder.

The spell that is cast is Charm Person or Mammal (SPPR204.SPL).

It seems clear from the spell description that the object of the spell can be directed to act as the caster desires ("The caster may give him orders, and the charmed individual will carry them out as quickly as possible.").

Mainly, Im interested in knowing whether anyone else can confirm this issue. The battle was certianly easier than it should have been.

Well, normally if you charm a creature, it just stands there. You have to direct it to attack someone. So the game has the same issue. It has to have the charmed player attack those around it. Since just a default script is attached (not sure what is in that), maybe the game can't make them attack you. However, does the same NPC (when normal, green)stand around when you get attacked? Or is a script running that tells the NPC to attack all seen enemies? If you always micromanage your fights, it may be that no attack scripts are assigned to these NPCs, so the game can't use them against you.

I always play with the AI turned off, so yes I micromanage my fights. However, I remember last time I played BP being charmed (or some permutation of control) and attacking party memebers. On one hand I see your point about scripts, but I've just never experienced that "non-action" when charmed before. Seems the developers of BG would have taken that "lack of active script" into account. Just seems kind of a cheesy way to avoid the full affects of a charm spell.

Has anyone actually tried this battle since reading this thread?

When I have a chance I will run this scenerio with active scripts to see if that makes a difference.

So, no one else has seen this issue? Can anyone confirm that they were charmed and controlled (i.e. attacked their own party)? Im just concerned that I have a shite install now. I havent progressed too far, but I dont want to if its stuffed.

Just did a full rebuild last night. I should hit that area tonight so I will report anything that looks weird.

Nope, I never got charmed. Did get three people held so that made the fight VERY entertaining. Didn't think I would get out alive. I saw that they cast bless or prayer on the Xvarts but only Hold was cast on me. I guess I can run through it again.

Bummer.

I cant believe no one has either not seen this issue or that no one can confirm that the Charm person mammal spell worked as expected in this encounter.

Once again, has anyone seen this work or not work as expected?

Okay, I went back through again. This time I had one member get charmed. They didn't attack anyone. However, that person doesn't have any scripts assigned to them either. The only time she finally attacked was when another NPC attacked first. So that may have just been a reaction.

Again, this is what I would expect. A charmed or dire charmed player is only going to attack if it is scripted to do so. Just like they stand around and let the enemy hit them if they don't have a script attached to them. Most NPCs have the WTASIGHT or a similiar script assigned to them (the same script most enemies have) so they will attack enemies by default. The player doesn't have any scripts assigned unless you change the settings. I usually leave the PC alone so I can micromanage their fights and leave the NPCs to do their normal scripted attacks.

However, if they get charmed, dominated, or whatever, they will attack me.

Thanks for checking that. At least I know that my install is not to blame for this wierdness.

I ran through it a couple of nights ago and had Khalid charmed. He promptly turned and attacked. I don't micro-manage, he was using BP-FTCL. Had to counter charm.
