Suppose it's an enemy type he hasn't previously seen, or a thief in leather armor, versus a monk in none? He doesn't know for sure who has the lowest AC.


True there is a certain amount of randomness that even a superb gameplan can't account for in planning for an adventure.

The simple fact of the matter is that you can't really script for the "Most Dangerous Enemy". Which is who we would really like the scripts to target and deal with effectively.

So regardless of how good we can make the scripts, there will always be times when they decide things like that 4th lvl fighter is much more important to attack than that 27th Archmage/Cleric Lich.

That I believe gives you the randomness factor or RPing aspect that you asked about.

Heck if you did everything perfect, your Ranger with INT 9 and a Racial Enemy of Spiders really should be scripted to go bonkers and chase down any spiders within sight regardless of the other enemies attacking the party. As the user, you know better and send him after the Drider that is summoning the spiders.
