I think part of the reason, is that culturally, most monestaries where you would receive your training are run by humans, and it is extremely rare for non-humans to be admited to the monestary to study as a monk.

Most obvious example for a monastery runned by a non-human:
The Black Raven monastery (Spine of the World), which was founded by the Black Raven (Half-Drow?).

Nevertheless, one shouldn't ignore the possibility of an exception. Check for white people doing hip hop and chinese playing basket ball for modern culture references. :P

Yes, but does the The Black Raven Monestary have an order of monks trained in hand-to-hand combat, or is it a normal monestary?

I't an unarmed combat monk monestary.

And that's not a problem in 3rd ed. All the base classes are open to all races.

I don't see why the kit should be racially restricted at all... I mean, there's other kits available that wouldn't make much sense for the PC starting out (Assassin, Bounty Hunter, Barbarian) which are allowed. And if anyone should be an exception to the normal rules, it is the PC...

I think it'd be better for players to be able to decide themselves if their character is in their mind suitable for a given kit. :)

Good point, but I wouldn't want to deviate too much from the original concept, either.
For now I'll add elves, adding something else is a quick adjustment in any case :)

Ever forward, my darling wind...

Anyway, I think you can hack the character in two ways:
-by changing his race
-by changing just his animation.

While I'm not sure the first solution would work smoothly, the second one is pretty safe.

I think there might be a supersafe way of changing race to elf, but it has to be done prior starting a new game. 1) extract kitlist.2da and K_F_E.2da to override, 2) look up sword angels number in kitlist 3) append a line to K_F_E.2da. Would it work?

While you're there, you may even update the tp2 to add other races support.
If you don't know how to do that, it will be faster for you to edit the character after you created it :)

It seems some mere human being is trying to belittle me; I am in doubt wheter continuing to attend to my superior matters, or striking him down with a thunder.

Oh, please lord, show your mercy to this poor soul! I will sacrifice something to you in return. (* takes a quick look around in his room) How about a banana? Or maybe a cup with some slighly too sweet tea in it? :D

Okay, enough fun for today, time to sleep :). Good night, my dearest italian god! (damn I forgot that gods don't sleep, do they ;))
