BG 2 for me, closely followed by Planescape and BG.

Sure, the battles weren't as good as those in BG2, and you didn't have as much freedom of action as in Fallout 2, but the story is second to none and even though (or because?) you're limited to playing the Nameless One it's the only crpg in which I felt I was actually able to roleplay. (okay, Fallout also did a decent job at this. But BG fails miserably, there are only token good/neutral/evil responses)

Well, I consider KotOR games rather good, and the list is there just for reference purposes, you can choose pretty much anything. Yeah, I enjoyed Wizardry VIII tremendously, it's a great series.

Second, I state in the first post that action(not)RPGs are not listed in the poll (Might&Magic).

I do not know Darklands, Wasteland or Wizardry, but I have stated in my post that some of the very old ones (like the first pool of radiance aren't in the poll).

... ANYway... KotOR is entertaining, and I don't question it's inclusion in such a list (although I wouldn't include it if I were making it, but I?m not, so I digress), just its inclusion ahead of other cRPG's that are much truer to the genre.

No need to blame someone else; I confess: I was the single, solitary voter that went for Icewind Dale I. Though BG2 is good for the mods (BG1 being utterly unplayable for someone who started with BG2), I find it somehow more boring in its vanilla state than either of the IWD's.

Depends what you are after:

Most vesatile game when it comes to RP choices: Fallout2 (also because of the SPECIAL character model with perks)

Best story: Planescape Torment ( A true epic)

Best setting: Arcanum (The Planes are fine, but I just loved the Jules Verne feeling of Arcanum)

Best fights: ToEE (Turn based fighting is the only way to go to let the player decide and not the engine)

Best mods: BG2 (The reason why it is so undying is that the additions for me outweigh the naked game at least 1:3, read I could not be forced to play through unmodded BG2 again if it was the last game on this planet.)

Agree with almost everything of this... I just don't know FallOut and ToEE. Just hope that my via my and other mods BG2 will get a lot more choice options, for there are mods working on it... voted now BG 2 for it's 'undying' trait. I liked PS:T much better for it's story line, but repeating playing it is hard for me... I think I'll stop with it... I'm cleaning/stopping a lot of things... need to get out more... wish RL had just easy option and you could load sometimes... argh, sorry whinning

personally I vote for PS:T (with Fallouts very close to it). Despite very good gameplay, BG2 does not have the same deep ambiance and does not change a player as much as those two games.

As for the list there are probably also players which would vote for another underestimated game: Arx Fatalis (from Ultima Underworld/The Elder Scrolls type family)

Fallout 2, most definitely, altough i would vote Bloodnet if it were in the poll. I've beaten FO2 more times than i can count, and still play it on regular basis.. that game is immortal. Other other great cRPG's are Baldur series and P:T, but, even tough they're great games, they lack the "spark" i found in FO2.

Still, i vote for PST.
Ok, it had weaker moments, but still, PST was the only game that could make me weep like a girl. Though i'm a man without feelings

Btw, i personally hate the programmers (not the story writers) of PST, it is such a crappily hacked game engine.
I still don't know how will i implement all that shit in GemRB.

Hrmm... tough choice here. Pure story-wise, it's PS:T, but BG2 has an up on having both more mods, better combat, and a larger number of interesting NPC's.

Fallout 1/2 was fun, but lacked depth in story and NPC's.
