Why?

Where would a gnoll get a scroll of djinni summoning?

I tend to not even pick them up
leave them on the bodies to rot. seem silly

Why not, why should he have a burning hands scroll instead???

This behaviour should be due to BG2 treasure/BGT (if u have installed) treasure assignment i think ...

Tired of the same boring spawned creatures u face in BG? Try BGSpawn

OK, that's your take on it.

But if ever there was truth to the saying "Never look a gift horse in the mouth"...

I consider 'em as loot.
Sell 'em.
Try to inscribe 'em into your spellbooks - which means even if successful you can't cast 'em, until you get to BG2.

Not all people divide share your point of veiw. I for one consider this as a bug rather than loot.

I just do not pick up the scrolls from enemies that are too dumb to be able to use them. If a mage dies and there are some scrolls, I will take em. If a troll dies and there is a 8th level scroll on him I ignore it. There is no logical reason for an ork to be carrying around delayed blast fireballs. In fact there is hardly any reason i can think oo for any "dumb" monsters like gnolls, orks, trolls, kobolds, to be carrying ANY scrolls. even identify.

In fact, there is no reason for my 5th level wild mage to be copying delayed blast fireball anyways.

I only collect and copy spells that are 1 level above the ones i can cast. So my 5th level wild mage who just learned to cast 3rd level spells is able to glance at the 4th level nagic. I see it sort of like "studying the spells" and preparing for use

It deals with Random Treasure table (RND***.2DA). So, BH creatures have smth like RNDTRE01-05 that correspond to BG2 table section (of course - with lvl 7 > stuff).
SBB just need to alter installation script that would find BGT random treasure entries and patch CRE's to carry right balanced random stuff....

Actually, the gnolls aren't mine. They are the default ones in the game. So any random treasure problems are with either the type of CRE files I use (GNOLL01, etc) or with the tables.

The orcs are a different issue. Those are mine. They carry RNDTRE04, whatever is in that line of the table.

The following files are on BGT biffing list for BG1-CRE.BIF:

GNOLL.CRE
GNOLL5.CRE
GNOLL5A.CRE
GNOLLD.CRE
GNOLLPER.CRE
GNOLLSU.CRE
GNOLL_A.CRE
GNOLL_B.CRE
GNOLL_C.CRE
GNOLL_D.CRE
GNOLL_E.CRE

If what you're using is not one of those, it's probably BG2 creatures (thus, having better loot).

I ran into this too. I had a full party and all of then had scrolls that the Orcs, and Gnolls dropped when they croaked. I pick them up however. now I have a pair of dual classed characters. (Immy I dualed to a mage at level 6, and my character who I dualed up to mage at level 6 (he is now a 6th lvl Blademaster/ 7th lvl mage)) I am waaaaay overpowering this game. I just might try again but not scribe all the scrolls. The Experience that I got for all the Scribing that I did, is what catapulted me this far. I ran across two Gnoll who dropped Bigby's Crushing hand, and a trio of Orcs that gave the partner spell to the previous Bigby's spell. I think that the treasure is way over powered for the monster, but I understand that it is due to the treasure table and random. Sir BillyBob, Thanks for this mod, it is great to play a mod that is reminicent of the old PnP days, which I had close to twenty four years of.

A few great balancers to use to keep yourself at a sane level are the Defjam XP (diddled with for 38% critter XP & 10% XP for spells traps and locks), refinements and the bigg tweaks. Using that combination of mods at the end, not only knocks down the ammount of experience you amass, but somehow also seems to remove 90% of the random treasure from all the critters as well. It's been a much more enjoyable game thus far this way.
