Okay, so I'm going to talk to Balthazar in Amkethran for the first time. The first two pieces of dialogue proceed as normal, but when I press continue, it instead ends the conversation. When I try to talk to Balthazar again, he claims I've already killed two people I haven't and know a lot of things I don't (and on my first time through the game, so the spoilers annoyed me). I've tried reloading from a number of saves from both before and after completing the oasis area, restarting the game, and restarting my computer, but have had no luck. If I don't talk to him, the other map areas I need to go to next don't appear.

This also happened to me in the Oasis as well. The conversation started normally, but when I clicked continue, it ended. However, I restarted the game, and the dialogue worked all the way through to its conclusion.

As for mods...I have a ton. I have the Baldurdash patch, the NPC's Kido & Chloe are in my party, I have the Edwin romance going on, flirt pack, banter pack, a lot of random quest mods (none of which I'm currently in the middle of, to my knowledge).

I've checked this and a few other forums, as well as Bioware's site, but haven't found any information about a similar problem, though if anyone knows where some is, I'd be grateful if you'd post the link. If not, any ideas on how to either get the conversation to work or how to avoid it and still be able to continue the game?

Thank you for taking the time to look at this!

Sounds like there's something funky with some of the dialogues. Hard, if not impossible, to determine what has caused that problem.

I will not advise you to re-install, nor will I advise that you use G3-BG2-Fixpack -- at this stage. In the future, you should use that. You are well into ToB so you may as well try to play to the end with your current install.

The way I would check this problem is to look at Balthy's dialogue, and implement whatever CLUA conditions are needed to advance the encounter. I would use Near Infinity, but others might have other tools.

If you're new to using Near Infinity, better start getting familiar with it - you're gonna need it. A lot.

Here's how to install it [link], change the last step to:
"Once there, click on the DLG drop-down, and you'll see a whole list of files."

Now go to BALTH.DLG, read thru the State and Response items - on the bottom, there are arrows to advance the items. Somewhere is there is the sequence of commands needed to get your gaming moving. You'll have to try invoking some of the Trigger or Action commands via the CLUA command line - instructions [here] - to get Balthazar moving.

Sorry, I can't check thru them for you, as your game may have different conditions than I have.

Sorry, if this seems all mysterious or too technical. Barring someone coming to the rescue, give it a go and try to fix. If you still need help, let us know.

Good luck.

I have seen this myself in my game a couple of times in the BG2 part of the game. You go through the dialogue tree, and after an answer or two the conversation box just blinks out like you ended conversation (but you didn't). This happened with the temple quest to get the ring for Talos (the guy above the CC). In my case though it wasn't a gamebreaker and I figured it was from something being overidden.

Alright, I actually did follow that, and got nearinfinity up and running...It looks like Kido is supposed to have some dialogue that runs there, so I'm looking for any references to this problem on his site. If worse comes to worse, I found the area codes to add the places I need to go, so I shouldn't get too stuck. I'll post again when I figure out what exactly is going on, or close enough to get everything running. Thank you!

*Edit- I found it! Kido's Dialogue starts by line of sight, and he was in the back of my party. Again, thanks for the help!

Well, I got it to work. I ended up following the advice in Kido's main forum, and enabled cheats, killed him, talked to Balthazar, then ressurected him, and it worked!

Congratulations :coolthumb:

Thanks...it kind of annoys me that the first cheat code I had to use in the game was to kill one of my own characters...oh well, he was sacrificed for the better good.

Well, in my party's case, the better evil.
