Hi there. I have a problem installing the Edwin Romance for SoA. When I run the setup I get the message "Skipping Edwin Romance. Edwin Romance is not compatible with Ease of Use's Female Edwina Component. It must be uninstalled in order to install Edwin Romance." So I go over and run the Ease of Use setup and uninstall everything. And I come back and I run Edwin Romance setup again but I'm still getting the same message. Can anyone clue me in on what to do?

It seems like there's a problem with either the uninstallation process of Ease of Use or with the detection method used for the Edwin Romance. I'll take a peek at the tp2 for the Edwin Romance and see what detection method it uses, but I can tell you right now that you might have bigger issues than that, if you're installing the Edwin Romance late in your installation.

You see, the Edwin overwrites Edwin's script with its own, which means that the changes to Edwin's script introduced by any other mod will be overwritten, too. For this reason, it's best to install the Edwin Romance as early as possible in the installation.

You might also want to consider using G3's BG2 Tweaks instead of Ease of Use. It's still actively supported, and it includes everything in the Ease of Use, and more besides, with everything available as a separate component for maximum customization.

Thanks for replying. I think there might be some problem with the uninstallation of Ease of Use actually. When I run setup and uninstall Ease of Use, I get the Successfully Uninstalled message. But when I run the setup again it doesn't ask me if I would like to Install Ease of Use, but rather if I would like to Re-Install Ease of Use. I've had Ease of Use installed since a long time ago, otherwise I would use Tweak Pack instead. Still the Readme for Edwin Romance doesn't say its incompatible with Ease, it just says its not recommended to have them together. Is there any way to workaround this? Manually deleting files and replacing strings and such?

That's what I'm checking.

It was easy enough to find:

BEGIN @0
FORBID_COMPONENT ~setup-ease.tp2~ ~20~ @31

Please post your weidu.log, just so I can see if you really did uninstall Ease of Use, or if some strange process reinstalled it again. If you really and truly have uninstalled Ease of Use "Female Edwina," there's no reason for this to be coming back as true. So just to be safe, post the log. It's a file in your BG2 directory that can be opened with any text editor, like Notepad. You can just post the contents in this thread, if you like.

It's possible that you could just comment out the FORBID_COMPONENT line of the Edwin Romance tp2 (and *only* the FORBID_COMPONENT line of the tp2). After I've seen your weidu.log, I'll tell you how to do that.

I've also downloaded and checked Weimer's Ease of Use. It changes the portrait and also replaces two spells. That's the problem with older mods: they overwrite, rather than patch. But Edwin does it, too.

While you're checking your weidu.log, I'll be looking at the Edwin Romance to see if it overwrites the same two spells. If so, there are no problems. You could just comment out the lines and carry on.

Aaaaand....

After checking the Edwin Romance, I see that it overwrites the same two spells, so it doesn't really make a darned bit of difference if you've got Ease of Use installed first, since the Edwin Romance will overwrite the changes introduced by it anyway.

So, just go ahead and comment out the line. If you don't know how to do this, I'll tell you how now.
  • Open up your BGII - SoA directory, and find a file titled Setup-EdwinRomance.tp2.
  • Open Setup-EdwinRomance.tp2 with any text editor, like Notepad.
  • Find the line that says
    FORBID_COMPONENT ~setup-ease.tp2~ ~20~ @31
  • Make it look like this:
    //FORBID_COMPONENT ~setup-ease.tp2~ ~20~ @31
  • Save your changes
  • Go ahead and install as usual.
Let me know how you make out.
