And now, possibly due to either installing additional minor mods or adding custom items to the override folder, I get a CTD whenever trying to travel to Marching Mountains in ToB. This is the first time I've played any of ToB. Had problems in the Forest of Mir area, too, where I'd get a CTD when moving the party onto the rocks that lead to the central island. Got the party there using the CLUAConsole, to find that there was nothing on the island (no creatures), so moved to the right side. Fought a couple enemies there, but I thought there was supposed to be a spellcaster among them. There wasn't. Nothing to do on this map area, really, except interact with the merchant (after slaying the enemies that initially appeared where he is on the map).

I can't progress in the game till I know how to correct the CTD and enter Marching Mountains, and right now, I don't know what to do about it. I've disabled 3D Acceleration and set the game resolution down to 800x600, to make things easier on the system. I've disabled the haxies I had installed to my computer, so there shouldn't be any external interference with the game...and my RAM checks out OK, yet something keeps causing a thread to crash.

Also, I've once again got the problem where I can't click on a kittable class when trying to create a new character without getting a CTD. I've tried many times now to create a female Elf fighter, but clicking the Fighter button (or any of the other kittable classes) gives me the CTD every time. I know that I haven't installed more kits than the menu is capable of displaying, so there's another case where I'm at a loss.

I have something of a little diagnostic "mod" that I can run, thanks to devSin over at G3, so I'm about to try that, and see what it reveals. Otherwise, I'm stumped.

You've installed both the G3 BG2 Fixpack and BGT, correct? On Macs, there's some interaction between them that causes this.

Nope, not using BGT (I can't with my current configuration). Boy, would that complicate matters *L* My understanding about the BG2 Fixpack is that it's nearly indispensible; I do find that I'd rather not be without some of the components. There's not a whole lot installed right now, in the way of mods, on my system, other than joinable NPCs and a couple rules-tweaking mods...and I still want to install tbtweaks, BG2 Tweaks, and Refinements, then I'll have everything I want in there. I feel it would be unwise to install anything further, though, till I've resolved these crashing issues.

Hello again!

I've restored to a clean install state again, and begun installing and testing mods, still determined to arrive at a stable enough and playable game. Today I got a little over-zealous when installing mods, and I've stricken some from my list (sorry Keto) to cut a little of the bloat factor. Also found that a couple (obscure?) mods don't have all the files needed for WeiDU to install 'em, so I've put them aside as well (most notably Jedi&Sith). I dropped a bunch of custom items in the override folder, after a couple successful test games, and so far they function as they should.

Now, I can rest the party successfully, NPCs deliver their lines as they should, Chloe performs perfectly...almost all is well, and I'll probably have to ignore the following outstanding issues:

* CTD when clicking on any kittable core class when creating a new character. This is unfortunate, as my only recourse is to create new ones based on existing ones, or possibly (?) use NearInfinity to create characters (but that's likely beyond my ability right now).

* Strange text at top of character record for some of my created characters. This appears above the character's large portrait, and I believe has to do with the fact that I previously applied subraces (using a mod called Subrace) to these characters, but have since abandoned that mod, suspecting it to cause problems. The text that appears is always part of some line of dialog that a character would deliver at some point, but I haven't recognized any of the lines. Just an oddity, and I wonder if I can fix it using NearInfinity.

Everything else appears to function as it should. I'm once again at the point where I have yet to install tbtweaks, BG2 Tweaks, Refinements...and Virtue. I'm not sure where in the order I'm supposed to install Virtue, but the ReadMe says to install it AFTER other WeiDU mods. Well, *all* the mods I have are WeiDU mods, I believe, so that would suggest to install Virtue last of all. Is this correct?

One other thing that's going wrong, and I'm awaiting feedback on it: Crossmod Banter Pack v.7 won't install due to some error. I've e-mailed the .DEBUG file to the appropriate three fine modders, and I hope to learn how I can remedy this situation soon.

Got several SoA test games going, and I might start a new ToB test game, importing an old "Final save" SoA game. So far, with this latest configuration and collection of mod installs, things are working well enough *fingers/toes/eyes crossed* I'm reminding myself to be patient, and play through these test games a bit farther (how many chapters to complete? That's the question ), before installing the remaining mods. I still want to install tbtweaks, BG2 Tweaks, Refinements, and Crossmod Banter Pack v.7, but I'm not yet sure which one should be last of all.

Still getting the CTD whenever creating a character and selecting any of the kittable core classes. Not sure how to solve, but it happens 100% of the time, as I keep going back and checking it.

If anyone knows of any reason why, under Mac OS X, I shouldn't install all four of the above-named mods, I'll be most grateful for the heads-up! Also I welcome sound advice on which components of which mods I should avoid. This is all in the interest of arriving at a game with many options, but not to overload the game, and enjoy the most stable playing experience possible.

Latest update is that the game works well enough with the addition of tbtweaks v.201 to the mix. I also installed Sylmar Battlefield, CoM Encounters v.102, Dark Ritual v.102, Dungeon Crawl v.3, and Xan v.7 (these last two being updates to mods previously installed). In BGConfig, in the section that includes frame rate and other adjustments, I've left all those at default values, and have 3D acceleration disabled (as well as crit screen shake and duplicate floating text). I understand that the CTD I get when creating a character and clicking to select any kittable class is just the way life goes, and that there may come a time when it doesn't happen, so periodically I try it again. Other than that, everything appears to function as it should, and mostly the game moves at the speed it should. From time to time, though, it moves slowly to the point of seeming slow-motion. On the plus side, there's banter a-plenty, which pleases me greatly

As soon as kind-hearted Berelinde provides me with a fix for Crossmod Banter Pack v.7, I'll install that, then it's on to the final mods to install:

My understanding is that I should install these in the order listed, but I'd like confirmation or correction from anyone who knows better. Virtue is packaged in an unusual way, as is Kelsey, but I figured out how to install Kelsey, so doing it the same way should work for Virtue. I've already placed the install components where they need to be, just waiting to do the other testing first. After that, and after a successful test run, I'll be able to bless my entire installation and recommend it to other OS X users out there

The corrected version of Crossmod Banter Pack v.7 solved my issue, as the mod installed successfully All that's left is to install the remaining three mods (BG2 Tweaks, Refinements, and Virtue), and I'll have everything I want installed. Again, if anyone has good advice on what order to install these mods, I'd appreciate it!

I'm still testing by playing games with different characters, following different quests, etc., to see how things work. I'll try to get through the whole game with a single protagonist as quickly as I can, taking note of anything that might not work as it should. Into Chapter 2, all is well as I take on a couple different quests.

I've moved all portraits into the portraits folder, and all sounds into the sounds folder. The drawback to having all the sounds there is when choosing a soundset for a character, as it makes for more files to scroll through, but that's not nearly as bad as scrolling through the portraits folder itself (Still working on paring that down somewhat, but it's hard to pick portraits to cut).

Any other Mac OS X users playing the game should be able to use the same or similar list of mods, installed in about the same sequence, and play the game. It's not a perfect install, so I may give it one more go after completing a run-through.

I don't know why those things showed up like that (and it's not the first time). I'm pretty sure the components of BG2 Fixpack that I installed are doing what they're supposed to. In any case, the next time I run through installing everything I have will probably take care of it.

Hmmm...I wonder if reinstalling BG2 Fixpack would be a good idea, or if it would just invite trouble, since there's a very high stack o' mods on top of it. Even with WeiDU's new bionic speed and impressive (to me) performance in version 204, I don't want to mess anything up.

I don't see why that would be needed. I've installed and re-installed a few things recently, and that hasn't had any obvious effect on anything else. The only thing I deleted from the BGII directory was each mod's extracted folder. I didn't delete any of the items inside each of those folders, that I copied into the top level of the BGII directory in order to install the mods. So, all needed files are still there.

Currently, I have a test game going, with Chloe, Yasraena, Valygar, Kivan, Silver Star, and my protagonist (a Half-Elf F/M/T), and they all function perfectly.

Perhaps unrelated (I probably did something in the wrong order during this quest) is the problem that my party just completed the De'Arnise Hold quest, but Nalia didn't give my protagonist the Keep. All she offered was to join our group to go to Athkatla, and of course I refused, as I had a full party. Curious.

I don't think the question marks in my WeiDU Log indicate any problems, but should strange or unwanted behavior arise during play, I'll bite the bullet and restore critical files from the back-up folder, then reinstall and relocate files again.

Thing is, the installers for the mods can't access the archives for needed files for uninstallation, which is part of reinstallation.

And you've blown away backup folders, so you can't restore the game to the point it was before you installed the mod.

Now, once BG1 NPC is out in a new version, I'll be working on a new version for Crossmod Banter Pack. This means that I'll unzip the archive into my game directory, and will essentially reinstall the mod. Except that it means that weidu will have to uninstall everything up to that point, in this case 19 mods. Because my mod folders are still there, and their backup folders are still there, this is no great hardship. I just run setup-CrossmodBG2.exe, and weidu takes care of the rest.

Now, suppose I went and deleted all the mod folders. Now, when the uninstaller hits the latest mod in the install, it looks for b!tweak/backup, and it can't find it, because it's blown away, and now I've got a problem.

You really are better off leaving the mod folders alone, expecially if your installation is flexible.

(If you're curious, b!tweak is a silly little mod intended only for my own consumption, and it allows me to cheat excessively.)

If the weidu installer looks for the mod folders that I deleted by name, then yes, I'd be sunk unless I placed them back in before uninstalling/reinstalling anything. If it simply checks for contents of a given mod, rather than the enclosing folder itself, then I have nothing to worry about, because all that stuff is still present. I don't know how else to explain that the only thing I threw away was the wrapper. The whole burrito is still there. Also, my back-up folder that contains pristine copies of critical files needed to restore a clean install remains intact, so if I do have to start all over for some reason, I simply copy those files back, then proceed as though I've just finished installing the game from the install discs.

Maybe I'll test these apparently conflicting theories by reinstalling a mod, and seeing what happens. As it is, my recent experience has been that, if I uninstall/reinstall a mod, I'm given a list of everything that's currently installed, and when I tell WeiDU to proceed, it uninstalls everything to the point of that mod, takes care of that mod, then reinstalls everything else. I get no error messages, but reports of successful installs of everything (or occasionally "installed with warnings" messages).

All I know is that my current set-up on my Mac is behaving 99% as it should, and I can live with that...at least till I can't resist the urge any longer to reinstall everything from the ground up (and what a nightmare that will be!). I'm holding off on that, as it's complicated, and involves several added steps to fix a few things that get broken in one mod due to another mod.

Understood. Well, I was told earlier that there would be no harm in deleting the folders after installing mods (my aim was to remove duplicate and unused files), but I'll defer to your wisdom. Looks like I have no choice but to restore and reinstall everything. This usually take me at least two days to complete, so I'll schedule it in somehow.

OK, I redid everything, and the only mod that wouldn't install was Virtue v19, because the only thing it has in the mod folder is an .exe and a .txt file, so neither weidu-mac nor Install-mod can do anything with it (no .tp2 file to work with, for example). I know that version 18 installed and worked properly, but I no longer have that version. I have a bad habit of deleting something after obtaining a higher version of it...
