bear in mind i tried to copy/paste the does box but was unable to so had to type it all manually
after reading about this wonderful sounding mod, i decided the time had come to replay the bg series again start to finish. i got as far as the install path option, typed in...direct quote as typed "C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate" i have no clue whatsoever about dos programming but i assumed i typed that in correctly....or maybe not. it went through a shpiel and then stopped. there were a lot of lines of dialogue that said..'Files' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file (about 137 lines)followed by a line saying" Extracting creatures from Baldur's gate:TotSC...
The syntax of the command is incorrect
[_weidu]WeiDU version 20800
unknown argument: [Files/Black]

WeiDU version 20800: "Total PC Gaming Interview"

usage: WeiDU [options] Baf,Bcs,D, DLG, Tra, Tp, TP2-Files followed by a series of commands which mean nothing to me and if needed i can reproduce as required since i tried a few times and can't make it work. might be something simple.

any help would be appreciated so i can take advantage of this wonderful sounding program and replay my heart of hearts favorite series of all time(at my age, games like these are getting rarer but rather than bash WoW and others here i'll reserve that for another time and place hehe)

"C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate" ... i typed that in correctly.

It is correct.
Now, did you do a full Custom install with all the boxes checked on the BG&BGTotSC+patch v5512? And BGII:SoA&ToB+patch 26498 too? Other than that, I don't remember if anything else could make this happen... Here is a full file list for you to check on. If you don't have one or a few of them, just in case you have a bad CD, we could upload a few of them for you.

And the mod has a debug log(called setup-bgt.debug) that you can open with text editor(notepad, wordpad etc.).

rather than trying to troubleshoot, i simply uninstalled everything and meticulously reinstalled everything from scratch, ste-by-step.bg1/totsc/patch then soa/tob/patch. with bg1 and totsc i did custom installs and checked everything, with soa and tob i did the equivalent which was full installs. i have the right patches. still the same errors/problems. as far as opening the debug file, i can't. not that any of it would make sense to me anyways lol. so unless there's a quick and dirty, i'll just settle for playing plain old bg. not giving up, but doesn't seem like this wants to work for me. thnx for the response and if anything else comes to mind, yell. i did open those debug files and 1 simply repeated what i already typed in the 1st message. the 2nd seemed to be the install process which means nothing to me but i cut/pasted a copy at the bottom here.

ps...i checked each and every file 1 by 1 from that list you referenced me to and they're all accounted for.

Could you possibly rename the debug file to have a .TXT and attach it here?

i assume you're talking about the 2nd debug file which i typed in the 1st post without the command list at the bottom. if not do you mean you want me to cut/paste the one i did post above your response but in a different format? i have no clue how to do that anymore(long story. 3 heart attacks have made my memory like swiss cheese and a large chunk of missing memory is puter knowledge). specify what you want me to do and i'll try to provide it.

but what i thought was going to be a simple thing is turning complicated and that just frustrates me. that's not a criticism of your program or the forum so please don't misread or misinterpret anything i say. i hoped it was a simple thing to use without hassles. i'm willing to keep trying things, but if it turns too complicated i'd rather just abandon this and play as is. the only thing that would make this easier would be to do it live and on the fly using msn or other program like skype where voice chat can be used. toodles

Thanks. When you typed in your directory, did you use quotes (")?
Also, what operating system were you using to install BGT?

Try to type in the directory without using quotes at all.

If that fails, try moving your entire BG1 installation directory to the root of C:\ and rename it to something very simple like bg1. You can move it back after the installation.

I think there is a problem with the installation recognising the space bar character.

I was having the same problem on windows 7, totally disabling uac and moving the bg1 installation dir to root of C worked for me, and its installing right now! wheeeee
