I am finishing up this and that before finishing BG 1, my party is lvl 9.

This re The Vault Quests

One says can be completed by any lvl party including a lvl one and is called The Vault.  I have no idea how to or where to begin it.

Second one is the quest at the vestary.  I killed that deamon and the guy in the Lathandar temple gives me the quest to kill the other deamon.  At least I understand now why the dawnbringer goes hostile when Edwin is in my party.

All he says is that the deamon is in some 'ruins to the east' of Bergost.  I stopped at Ulcaster and at Firewine.  I didn't see anything, but I was trying to do this quest before taking off to work, it had said it was a short quest for a lvl 7-9 party so sounded playable before work.  This is as far East as I've been.  Durlag is on my map further east, and been there for some time, but don't want to even go there til I finish out the main plot for one.

Is this place the Lathandar cleric talks about, over at Durlag?  If so I'll put it off.  If it's at Ulcaster, I've been the area around Ulcaster and back under there and nothing, did a quick check of Firewine.

I've goggled this, and done a search there really is no through walkthrough and don't know where else to look for either quest.

I can't answer your questions, because I've not played Vault, yet. But I've a question:

At least I understand now why the dawnbringer goes hostile when Edwin is in my party.

What do you mean with it? Could you explain it to me?

Greetings Leomar

In Dark Side of the Sword Coast the dawnbring goes immediately hostile, if Edwin is in the party at all even if he doesn't see him.

Well in The Vault mod, one quest takes place in the Vestibule over at Temple of Lathander. Those people are also 'dawnbringers' members of that faction, of priests of Lathander. Once again is not even possible to have Edwin in the party what so ever.

What happens is you talk to those guys. If Gavin is in the party, there'll be a bit of small time conversation. You click on them again, and they talk about this evil spawning in. You kill the deamon summons and his minions.

Then you talk again to the dawnbringer that is there, I forget his name. He says that's not the end of it, you go over and talk to the main priest in the temple of Lathander. Apparently a demon has opened a portal into this relm. IT was done with the help of THAY wizards, ie this is why I think they go immediately hostile of Edwin is in the party. They say something to him like, "so you have come to witness the evil of your brethern or the Thay wizards. They are factioned to go hostile at the site of any thay wizard, even one in your party. It's good rp, but I guess this is where I see one mod getting in the way of another.

The reason I say this is that in Dark Side dawnbringer blade, is an absolute must for the rest of that part of the mod to go forward. Dawnbringer blade sends sends you to the Burning Wizard, to talk to the priest there, that gives you the rest of a quest chain,(to kill a dragon) and in return who will eventually play a key role in blessing a mace for you when you face off with the vampires to get the mayor's stolen baby son back. If dawnbringer blade goes immediately hostile, you don't get the quest, and the main quest giver, of course never shows up at the Burning Wizard, and it's pretty much, a large part of the mod, hosed. And it goes without saying, if you bring Edwin into the Vestibule those dawnbringers there go hostile, and they die quickly and that quest that is part of the mod never happens either for that matter.

Neither the main quest giver that hangs out at the Burning Wizard nor the main priest at the temple of lathandar have issues, but any of the dawnbringers, go immediately hostile

The main priest in temple of lathandar hands you bunch of potions and that, tells you the deamon and the portal, and the other wizards probably, are 'to the east' in some ruins. Period. I went through every area 'east' and underground again in the ulcaster ruins and underground in the firewine ruins again, and never found anything. I even went to the east woods where we had previously killed some thay wizards when cleaning out those areas before going to cloakwood mines. I found nothing. Only area 'east' that might have some ruins where I have not gone yet, is Durlag tower, I want to finish off the main game before I tackle the tower. Maybe that's where this deamon and portal are. Even there, since I am lvl nine, I explored the outside are of the tower, and didn't run into anything except some battle horrors :). So I don't have the slightest idea where this place could be.

If it's in Durlag fine, I'll do it then, if it's not, I not going to keep looking, I've looked every other possible place to the East, including NE and SE of the temple.

Unless I'm mistaken, it's about that four thay wizards that are located atop of some generic ruins in one of the eastward locations of the map. Sorry for being that vague but I don't have BG installed atm to check details. These wizards are already there in vanilla BG with Vault fleshing out their presence with some purpose. If memory serves, in original Vault you might have killed these wizards before starting the quest, thus effectively making it unfinishable. I don't know wether those folk that have released last Vault version fixed this deadend or not though.

Creepin, thanks for the information.

LadyRolePlay, why I asked you before was my suspicion, that DSotSC is all fine and Vault has done something with the dawnbringers, so you can't finished DSotSC, because I've heard about this problem the first time. Your description could confirms it. I think that you can solve all DSotSC quests with Edwin in your group, but if you installed Vault too, you get the problems with DSotSC like you described. Thanks for your report.

erebusant, are these reports correct and Vault needs some fixing in this case?

I found this to be the case also Leomar. And you were right in all respects, at least it points exactly where the problem is. By completely dropping Edwin from the party BEFORE the encounter with Dawnbringer Blade, it goes off, and you have to drop Edwin again at the vestuary as well or they'll go hostile with the Vault mod.

To me, it's a big drawback. I have the mod with npc's that will stay with you no matter how unhappy, and this character is an LG paladin rep 20. I THOUGHT he wouldn't rejoin when I dropped him, but he waits at what ever inn is there. So it was no problem. Edwin is far and away the best mage in this game, bar none. If he had not been willing to wait, I would not have continued the mod.

IMHO this something needing to be fixed at least regards Edwin if possible. I would think more parties would have him than not, unless they themselves are playing a caster.
